Dear Friends in Christ,
“For my yoke is easy, and my burden light.” (Mt. 11:30). When
we think of being good stewards, we may think that God is ask-
ing too much of us when He calls us to generously share our
time, talent, and treasure. However, we must remember that we
are not “owners” of anything, we are merely “stewards” of the
gifts God has given us. All He is asking is that we give back a
small portion, in gratitude, of what He has already given to us.
Happy July 4th Weekend! As we celebrate our Independence
Day amid much social turmoil and chaos, we have much to be
grateful for as Americans: Thanks be to God for our Constitu-
tion and Bill of Rights. Thanks be to God for the countless
women and men who stepped up to militarily defend our coun-
try. Thanks be to God for the freedoms we hold, exercise and
Saint Aloysius Catholic Church A Discipleship Parish
guarantee others. In God we trust!
Special thanks to Ronda Mill and Ed Strode for picking up Bin-
go leadership as the COVID-19 quarantine subsides. Last Sat-
urday we were a little down but are hoping that as society
opens up we will find more folks attending Bingo. Ronda and
Ed are looking for volunteers to help at Bingo. Please help if
you are able; especially if you have students in our school as it
receives the lion’s share of the funds raised. Volunteering can-
not be left to the faithful few but must call each of us to help.
During the course of the year, Bingo will generate about $30K
– or so. So, we cannot afford to quit. Won’t you help? Contact
Ronda, Ed, or the parish office to volunteer.
Last weekend we celebrated Mass in the church at 4:30pm and
8:00am followed by the distribution of Holy Communion. The
Mass was live streamed on Facebook during the 8:00am ser-
vice. Being faithful to the diocesan and state regulation for rev-
erence and social distancing we had 168 attendants at the two
Masses and a few more for communion who came to church
once the Masses had concluded. Our plan for this weekend is to
have Mass in church again at 4:30pm and 8:00am just like we
did last week. You know… Be flexible, keep a smile on your
face, and follow the directions of the ushers. Communion will
be distributed after each Mass as we did last week. After the
Saturday Mass communion for those not attending the Mass
will begin around 5:15pm and after the Sunday Morning Mass
at 8:45am. Again, only the Sunday 8:00am Mass will be live
streamed.
On Monday (July 6th) I am going home to Iowa to be with my
parents for 10 days. In my absence next
weekend, Fr. Patrick Tobin, O.P. from Chi-
cago will preside at the Masses. You will
remember him as the director of our Shrine
of St. Jude in Chicago who was here when
we had the three days in honor of St. Jude.
Fr. Patrick and I are still talking about what it
might mean for St. Al’s Parish to be satellite site of the Chicago
Shrine. Fr. Kevin Mann from St. Cabrini will respond in my
absence to any sacramental emergencies and funerals. There
will be Liturgy of the Word and Eucharist Blessing each day at
8:00am (Tuesday-Friday). and I am going to try to live stream
the rosary from home. So, please pray for my safe travels, my
father’s health, Fr. Patrick’s travels, etc. I will certainly remem-
ber to pray for you.
St. Aloysius, intercede for us that we might find the courage to
care for others during our pandemic like you did during yours.
Be assured of my prayers for your and your family’s health… see
you on-line!
With Pastoral Affection, Fr. Clint, O.P. Pastor

Planning has started for the 2020-2021 school year at St. Aloysius! With
guidance from the Illinois State Board of Education and the Diocesan Office of Edu-
cation, our Re-Opening Task Force is evaluating the best way to meet student needs
as we resume in-person learning. Parents will be asked to fill out a survey about their
2019-2020 experience with distance learning so we can better guide that process
should we need to resume e-learning at some point next year. Please know that our
number one goal is to have students back in our building. While I know there will be
changes, it is my hope that at St. Al’s our changes will be minimal in order to meet
the needs of our students and families while operating within the guidelines that will
be put forth by the State. The first day of school is Monday, August 17!
Congratulations to our 8th Graders who celebrate their graduation last Tues-
day, June 30th with Mass, and distribution of diplomas. We send them on to High
School with our sincerest prayers and love. We are also presently planning for the
celebration of the Sacrament of Confirmation for our students. More information will
be shared as it develops.
Bingo began last Saturday. This year, Ronda Mill has agreed to be the coordinator.
Please help Ronda keep our Bingo Project successful by volunteering to help out.
This week Ronda wrote: Hello everyone. I’m the new coordinator for the bingo fund-
raiser for St. Aloysius School. This is a weekly event held at Caritas Hall, located at
9th & Converse. It is one of the more successful fundraisers for the school, bringing
in a substantial amount of money the past few years. We need volunteers to help out
on Saturday mornings, 10:45am-3:00pm. Families with children can apply these
hours to their service hours required throughout the school year. It’s easy and a lot of
fun. With the restrictions being lifted, I’m sure sessions will be starting soon after.
Please consider volunteering a little time to help us out. You can text or call me at
(217) 670-4458. Thank you!
St. Aloysius School will continue to enroll students through the summer months. We
are a preschool thru 8th grade, north-end Springfield faith community served by
award-winning faculty and dedicated staff! We provide extra-curricular activities and
offer IESA, as well as SCAA, sports teams, an art and music program, and a STEM
curriculum. If you know someone interested in St. Aloysius School, please have them
e-mail Angie Daniels or Denise Reavis for more information.
School Office Hours…The school office will be open during the summer on
Wednesdays from 9:00am-noon. Mrs. Reavis and Mrs. Daniels can be reached at 544-
4553 or by e-mail. The parish office is open from 9:00am-noon Monday –Thursday.
WOW! We exceeded our goal! A huge thank you to everyone who
donated to the Annual Fund! What a true testament to the spirit of
St. Aloysius that during the most difficult of times, we come togeth-
er and provide for our family! What a milestone it is this year to not
only meet our goal but to surpass it! Thank you again to our gener-
ous donors and supporters.
“Love is the True North that always leads us home.”

Celebrate Bishop Paprocki’s 10 year anniversary... On
April 20, 2010, Pope Benedict XVI appointed Bishop Thomas
John Paprocki to be the ninth bishop of the Diocese of Springfield
in Illinois. Then, on June 22, 2010, Bishop Paprocki was installed
as bishop of our diocese during Mass by Francis Cardinal George,
Metropolitan Archbishop of Chicago, at a packed Cathedral of the
Immaculate Conception in Springfield. Join our diocese in cele-
brating and thanking Bishop Paprocki for his dedicated leader-
ship, advancing our faith, and his constant prayer for us over the
past 10 years. Letters of appreciation can be mailed to 1615 West
Washington St.; Springfield, IL 62702.
Protecting God’s Children… We are in the process of mail-
ing background check renewal forms to all volunteers who have
reached the 5 year (or longer) expiration on their background
checks. If you received renewal forms please complete the forms
ASAP. Thank you for your dedication to St Aloysius Parish and
to keeping our children and vulnerable adults safe.
Biking for Babies is a pro-life organization that is sending out
young adults from all sides of the country to spread awareness
and fundraise for pregnancy resource centers in America. Join the
cyclists at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception Friday,
July 17th, for 5:15pm Mass. Testimonies from the cyclists will be
live streamed at 6:15 pm via dio.org/live or Facebook.com/
diospringfield.
Clinical expert’s advice on raising families...Dr. Ray Guarendi, a
Catholic clinical psychologist, author, professional speaker, and
national radio and television host, joined families across the dio-
cese in June for a virtual event called “Quarantine, Quarrels, and Quality Time.” If you missed it, you can hear Dr. Guarendi
on replay discuss topics that can help parents bring all things back
to the family, standing strong as a parent, the importance of disci-
pline, how to discipline, and learning the logic of being Catholic.
Go to dio.org/drray.
Find Peace and Healing... Pope Francis says, "God is always
waiting for you." If you or someone you love is grieving the loss
of a child or children to abortion, come and experience the heal-
ing mercy of Jesus Christ on our weekend retreat. To find infor-
mation about the Rachel’s Vineyard Retreat August 7-9 go to

St. John’s Breadline is requesting bottled water for the up-
coming hot weather. Donations can be dropped of at 430 North
5th Street from 7:00am –1:00pm. Thank you!
Fourteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time ... July 5, Once
Again... “Come to Me.” The gospel today is the same one heard
on 19 June for the Sacred Heart of Jesus. Jesus never tires of in-
viting. We should never tire of hearing the invitation. Asked
again: How will I go to Christ? What rest do I need?
Whom will I bring with me?
As if
Sometimes, it’s good to know that you’re not special.
Like when something is going terribly wrong.
It’s great to find out that you haven’t found a brand-new way for
things to go bad. That what you’re dealing with or doing is the
opposite of original.
That no one is going to name a disease or a syndrome or a disas-
ter after you.
For all of us at one time or another, fear is one of those things.
When it’s good to know that you’re not special.
When you and I catch ourselves doing it. When we catch us
winding ourselves up about something. Making ourselves afraid
with a bunch of what-ifs.
To know that you and I are doing the same thing that we’ve done
to ourselves countless times before.
The same thing that who knows how many people have done.
The same thing that the Apostles did in the Gospel.
Winding themselves up about the storm that their boat is in.
Making themselves afraid with a bunch of what-ifs. Even though
Jesus Himself is literally in the boat with them.
No matter who it is who’s getting wound up with what-ifs, Jesus
always has the same response for us. “Why are you terrified, O
ye of little faith?”
Jesus effortlessly swats away all of our what-ifs with a divine “as
if.”
As if God didn’t know what we were dealing with.
As if God would abandon His own children.
As if God hadn’t already provided for our every need.
The times that you and I don’t know that? The times that we
don’t hear God’s “as if?”
That’s when our eyes are on the storm. And not on God.
-Deacon Jim
St. Aloysius Catholic Church: A Discipleship Parish
Parish Bulletin Board
This weekend we once again will celebrate public Mass in our parish. Attendance will
be limited to 25% of the church’s seating capacity. This is roughly 150 people. We will
have Saturday Mass at 4:30pm and one mass Sunday at 8:00am. Parishioners will still
have a dispensation from the obligation to attend. We were blessed to have many parish-
ioners and their families attend Mass times on Saturday and Sunday. Following social
spacing and guidelines it was certainly a successful start to what will hopefully be a steady
return to regularity If you are in a risk category (or someone in your immediate family is),
it might be wise to not attend at this time. Last weekend 156 people attended Church. The
current dispensation from attendance at weekend mass remains in effect.
We will continue to live stream Mass on Sunday, weekday Mass and the rosary. We will
also provide communion services after the weekend masses to those unable to go to Mass.
Please arrive tot church at least 10 minutes before Mass begins. Masks are required if you
wish to enter church. Hand sanitizers will be available in the vestibule. The
ushers will direct you to your seat. Every other row of pews will be taped
off and tape marks will be placed on the pews for social distancing. Fami-
lies living in the same house may sit together, but otherwise you are asked to
observe the markings. There will be no missalettes (they have been taped
off and there will be no bulletins( they will be emailed on Fridays) You may
bring your own missal but please take with you when you leave. The collection basket
will be placed in the middle of church for your donation. You can still drop your envelopes
off at the rectory mailbox or by mail. Following social spacing and guidelines it was cer-
tainly a successful start to what will hopefully be a steady return to regularity.
Please note… The week of July 6-10 and July 13-17 there will be no weekday mass. There
will be Liturgy of the Word and Eucharist Blessing each day at 8:00am. The rosary will be
live streamed each day at 3:00pm on Facebook (Tuesday-Friday).
Act of Spiritual Communion... A Prayer by St. Alphonsus Liguori … My Jesus, I be-
lieve that You are present in the Most Holy Sacrament. I love You above all things, and I
desire to receive You into my soul. Since I cannot at this moment receive You sacramen-
tal, come at least spiritually into my heart. I embrace You as if You were already there and
unite myself wholly to You. Never permit me to be separated from You. Amen.
The Parish office is open 9:00-noon (Monday-Thursday) to the public. In the afternoons
we will be working on details (moving storerooms, files, archives of various sorts, etc.) at
the Rectory and on campus. Our weekly bulletin will be accessible through our parish
website. This is the best way to know what is going on in the parish. You can also sign up
to receive Flocknotes. Instruction our on the website.
Please note in your July/August envelopes you will find a yellow envelope for St. Aloys-ius School Tuition Assistance. These monies will go to help those families, who have
been approved through our FACTS Tuition Grant and Aid Assessment Program, qualify
for financial assistance to attend our school. We are deeply appreciative for your support
of this special envelope
Now is the time to consider offering RCIA (Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults), to that
person who seems as though they might be interested in your Faith. No, they don’t need to
have decided anything, but perhaps are just hearing or feeling a call, or pull. RCIA is
where one can learn about the Catholic Faith without having to make a commitment. If you
know someone, perhaps ask them if they are interested and let them know you will help
them learn more about RCIA which is a way adults can enter the Church – if they choose.
Call the parish office for more information (544-4454).
Thank you for your contributions that
keep us current on bills, utilities, pay-
roll, benefits, and so much more.
Whenever there is a challenge or a
need, St. Aloysius always steps up.
The advertisements that appear in this
bulletin completely defray
all publishing costs which
the church would otherwise
incur. Please patronize the
sponsors on the back of this bulletin
and thank them for their kind generosi-
ty.
St. Aloysius Prayer Chain... If you
have a special intention or someone
whom you would like prayers offered
please call Mrs. Vikki Warren @ 217-

Stewardship … Gracious and loving
God, we understand that you
call us to be stewards of your
abundance, the caretakers of all
you have entrusted to us. Help
us to use your gifts wisely and
to share them generously. May our faith-
ful stewardship be the hallmark of our
discipleship, a visible sign of our commit-
ment to Christ. We pray with grateful
hearts, in Jesus’ name. Amen.
