Dear Parishioners,
Normally, I don’t have a problem with writing these bulletin
letters. This time, however, I don’t precisely know where or
how to begin. This is the first letter, ever, that I will have written under any
kind of “quarantine.” This is the first weekend in which I am actually
unable to serve my people. Vacations and the like don’t count, of course.
Those are voluntary and the services of substitutes are planned. This time,
however, nothing is “voluntary.” I can’t celebrate Mass for you, I can’t hear
confessions because of factors beyond my control. These things destroy
me, and I can’t tell you how sad and sorry I am.
However, let me tell you that we should all rejoice in the brotherhood of
priests in this diocese! I am humbled by the sacrifices my priestly brothers
have made for me, for their willingness to jump in and help YOU! Please
remember that the priests who are making these sacrifices are priests of this
diocese, not of the FSSP. That said, my superior is devastated that he can
offer no priestly help. The Fraternity is stretched to its limit and simply no
one can be spared. But the priests here, my colleagues and friends, some
known to you, some not, are making heroic sacrifices for you and for me.
My thanks to Father Michael McMahon who celebrated Mass last Tuesday.
My thanks to Father Michael Pawlowicz who blessed the Epiphany Water.
My thanks to Father Balluff who celebrated Mass last Wednesday, the
Feast of the Epiphany and who celebrates this Sunday’s 8, 10 and noon
Masses. My thanks to Father John Horan who celebrated a Baptism for me
Saturday and who celebrates Mass for me this evening in Naperville and
who will celebrate Masses here January 11 and 12.
So far, dear Family, God has provided for you and for me. He will continue
to do so. Please join me in thanking Him for His Goodness and in thanking
these valiant priests who have jumped into the breach to serve Him, and
help me and you.
As of now, the remaining Masses for the remaining weekdays and for next
Sunday are still open. If any of my brother priests, who, remember, have
their own parishes and duties, are able to celebrate these Masses, rest
assured they will, without hesitation. I’m sure that they’d love to receive
your thanks and expressions of appreciation, be they verbal or written. This
is further proof that the Latin Mass is important to and supported by the
new bishop, Bishop Hicks, and by the diocese. God bless you, my children.

Second Collection: Church in Latin America On January 23
rd & 24
th, we will take up a collection for the Church
in Latin America. For many in Latin American and the Caribbean, a
rising secular culture, difficult rural terrain, and a shortage of
ministers all present obstacles to practicing the faith. Your support
for the collection provides lay leadership training, catechesis,
priestly and religious formation, and other programs to share our
catholic faith with those who long to hear the Good News of Christ.
