Dear Friends:

I have very happy memories growing up in the town of Canton and getting together with my large extended
family for the holidays, birthdays and other important events. My parent’s house, or one of those of my aunts
or uncles, would often be filled with lots of cousins, food, games and happy times. Those early years were
memorable and formative.

Family is important, whatever the shape or size. Today we celebrate the Feast of the Holy Family of Jesus,
Mary and Joseph. “So (the shepherds) went in haste and found Mary and Joseph, and the infant lying in the
manger.” (Luke 2. 16) We, too, are invited into the manger by the shepherds, to adore the newborn child.
Jesus, Mary and Joseph are not to be admired from a comfortable distance, for they draw each one of into
their loving embrace. We, too, are members of the Holy Family, receiving their unconditional love and drawing
strength from their friendship.

May we walk with the Holy Family of Jesus, Mary and Joseph through the new year ahead.

Peace,

December 26 ~ Feast of the Holy
Family of Jesus, Mary and
Joseph

Every parent can relate to this Gospel. The thought of
a child getting lost, no matter their age brings anxiety
and stress! The relief of Mary and Joseph is palpable
in this passage even though the 12yearold Jesus
acts surprised about his parents’ concern. However,
what is most important to glean from this gospel is the
fact that upon returning to Nazareth, Jesus “was
obedient to them; and. . . Jesus advanced in wisdom
and age and favor.” Their years together provided
important time for growth for the Holy Family. The
vocation of parents, grandparents and guardians is
both rewarding and challenging. Take time to think
about the example of the Holy Family and let them be
a source of strength for you and for all families.
Father Bryan, Father Joseph, Deacon Bob, Deacon Steven and
the pastoral staff of St. Joseph Parish wish everyone a
Blessed New Year

Join Our Youth Choir

The music ministry is
recruiting singers from the
ages of 1015 to form a
youth choir for our 9:30
AM family mass on Sundays. This is a great
opportunity for our youth to not only become more
involved in the liturgy, but also to develop their musical
skills and an appreciation of different styles of music
through choral singing. Due to Covid19, we will be
maintaining a maximum of 20 singers until further
notice. Rehearsals will be held on Saturdays from
10:3011:15 AM, and on Sundays at 9:00 AM before
the family mass. For more information, contact our
music director, Carlo Serrano, at

Prayer to the Holy Family
By Pope Francis

Jesus, Mary and Joseph,
in you we contemplate
the splendour of true love,
to you we turn with trust.
Holy Family of Nazareth,
grant that our families too
may be places of communion
and prayer,
authentic schools of the Gos-
pel
and small domestic Churches.
Holy Family of Nazareth,
may families never again
experience violence, rejection and division:
may all who have been hurt or scandalized
find ready comfort and healing.
Holy Family of Nazareth,
may the approaching Synod of Bishops
make us once more mindful
of the sacredness and inviolability of the family,
and its beauty in God’s plan.
Jesus, Mary and Joseph,
graciously hear our prayer.

Amen.

Pope Francis introduced this Prayer to the Holy
Family that he wrote himself, asking the faithful to
pray with him for families throughout the world and
for the work of the upcoming Synod of Bishops devot-
ed to pastoral care of the family. Pope Francis has
made Christian family life a central priority of his re-
markable pontificate. For guidance and inspiration, he
asks us to fix our gaze on the Holy Family of Nazareth.

We close the Christmas octave the eight days follow-
ing the birth of Christ with a day honoring Mary as the
Mother of God. This is usually a holy day of obligation,
but since it falls on a Saturday in 2022, it is not this year.
“Mary, the allholy evervirgin Mother of God, is the mas-
terwork of the mission of the Son and the Spirit in the full-
ness of time. For the first time in the plan of salvation and
because his Spirit had prepared her, the Father found the
dwelling place where his Son and his Spirit could dwell
among men. In this sense the Church’s Tradition has of-
ten read the most beautiful texts on wisdom in relation to
Mary. Mary is acclaimed and represented in the liturgy as
the “Seat of Wisdom.” Catechism of the Catholic

Over the coming months, Catholics from around the
world will be participating in the Synod on Synodality.

What does that mean?

Here in Boston it means that we will be gathering, as
parishes and as a diocese to pray together and to
invite the Holy Spirit to help us to listen deeply to one
another, and we will talk together about how best to do
that.

So, for instance, a parish council may get together and
ask “How can we as a parish council do a better job of
letting the voices of all our parishioners be heard, even
those who are not a part of an inner circle or who might
be marginalized for whatever reason?”

The archdiocese and the church around the world will
be engaging in the same sort of conversation. We pray
that the Lord will open our hearts to Him and to all of
our people

Rose for Life
Each week, roses are placed beside the
statue of the Blessed Mother as
reminders to pray for the unborn.
