Mass Intentions From Fr. Flanagan

Dear St. Madeline Family,

Remember this guy from events such as the Super Bowl and even the Master’s golf tournament. He held up a sign that said John 3:16. For God so loved the world that He gave his only Son, so that everyone who believes in Him might not perish but might have eternal life. That’s the message from today’s Gospel.

Let’s be grateful that God loves us and gave us Jesus as our friend and savior. Like “Rainbow Man”, let’s not be afraid to witness to this truth. Bonus if you wear the rainbow wig!

Today, let us also pray for people of all ages that they may love their God and be witnesses to the truth. Please contact me with any prayer requests, concerns or good news.

Let us stand united in prayer and united as St. Madeline Church. God bless all.

God bless you and God bless the St. Mad’s Family!

Peace,

Fr. John Flanagan

The Archdiocese of Philadelphia announced that Archbishop Nelson J. Pérez has suspended all public Masses in the Archdiocese of Philadelphia effective at 12:00 p.m. on Wednesday, March 18th and until further notice.

The Archbishop previously dispensed the faithful from the obligation to attend Sunday Mass. Both decisions were made in response to the growing concern over the spread of the Coronavirus (COVID-19) and the directives provided by government and health department officials at the local, state, and national levels. These measures will be re-evaluated pending future developments.

In making this announcement Archbishop Pérez said, “As the Archbishop of Philadelphia, my first priority is to ensure the health and welfare of those entrusted to the pastoral and temporal care of our Church. So, in light of the developing Coronavirus pandemic, a decision has been made to suspend the public celebration of all Masses in the Archdiocese of Philadelphia for the time being.

The Archdiocese of Philadelphia has an online Spiritual Resources page that provides many excellent resources to nourish you spiritually and help you remain as close as possible to Jesus in the Eucharist during this time. Find a list of live-streamed Masses, online devotions, prayer services, faith formation, ways to help and more at the following site, http://archphila.org/resources/

SUNDAY MASS READINGS:

Reading I: Acts 2: 14, 22-23 Here is the core teaching message of the early Church used by her missionary Apostles. It is a short summary of Our Lord’s works, death and resurrection.

Reading II: I Peter 1: 17-21 Christ’s blood releases us from the power of sin. You must be holy because of this incomparable gift.

The Gospel: Luke 24: 13-35 A wonderful meeting of two disheartened disciples (representing all of us) with Jesus on the road to Emmaus. The scenario ends with a Eucharistic liturgy: there is a Scripture reading followed by an explanation, capped off by the breaking of the bread before Jesus vanishes.

Please pray for the following members of our parish family who are currently serving in the United States Military:

All help is greatly appreciated. If you cannot donate at this time, please consider it in the future. “For God loves a cheerful giver. Moreover, God is able to make every grace abundant for you, so that in all things, always having all you need, you may have an abundance for every good work”. Thank you to everyone who has donated and to those who are considering in the future! May God bless you for your generosity and your love of our beautiful parish!

St. Madeline Chapter of the Society of St. Vincent de Paul: In this Sunday’s Gospel, as we hear the story of the disciples on the road to Emmaus, we also come to know that our daily reaching out to our neighbor is our daily walk with the risen Christ; we recognize him in others.

• This month, through your gifts, the Society of St. Vincent de Paul brought the love and care of Jesus to the poor by assisting 2 families, our neighbors in need. Thank You and God bless you!

St. Madeline PREP

We will be postponing our parish First Holy Communion Day, scheduled for Saturday, May 2. Because we are unsure when our pastor Father Flanagan will be able to celebrate Mass again in our lovely Church of St. Madeline, we will be unable to schedule a future date at this time.

For the remainder of the school year, PREP classes/lessons will be conducted by parents/guardians in the home. Mrs. Boyle has communicated with all families. All catechists have instructed parents on the lessons to be completed for their children’s religious studies. If you have not been contacted by Mrs. Boyle or your child’s catechist through email, please contact Mrs. Boyle at [email protected]

God bless you and your families with good health!
