The Blessing of the Palms

Gospel—Luke 19:28-40

The Lord be with you. And with your spirit. A reading from the holy Gospel according to Mark. Glory to you, O Lord.

Jesus proceeded on his journey up to Jerusalem. As he drew near to Bethphage and Bethany at the place called the Mount of Olives,

he sent two of his disciples. He said, “Go into the village opposite you, and as you enter it you will find a colt tethered on which no one has ever sat.

Untie it and bring it here. And if anyone should ask you, ‘Why are you untying it?’ you will answer,

‘The Master has need of it.’” So those who had been sent went off

and found everything just as he had told them. And as they were untying the colt, its owners said to them,

“Why are you untying this colt?” They answered, “The Master has need of it.”

So they brought it to Jesus, threw their cloaks over the colt,

and helped Jesus to mount. As he rode along,

the people were spreading their cloaks on the road; and now as he was approaching the slope of the Mount of Olives,

the whole multitude of his disciples began to praise God aloud with joy for all the mighty deeds they had seen.

They proclaimed: “Blessed is the king who comes

in the name of the Lord. Peace in heaven and glory in the highest.”

Some of the Pharisees in the crowd said to him, “Teacher, rebuke your disciples.” He said in reply,

“I tell you, if they keep silent, the stones will cry out!”

2nd Reading - Philippians 2:6-11

A Reading from the Letter of St. Paul to the Philippians

Christ Jesus, though he was in the form of God, did not regard equality with God something to be grasped. Rather, he emptied himself, taking the form of a slave, coming in human likeness; and found human in ap-pearance, he humbled himself, becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross. Because of this, God greatly exalted him and bestowed on him the name which is above every name, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bend, of those in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue con-fess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father. Due to the length of the Passion, it is not printed here, but participation copies are at the ends of the pews. We would

like to save them for future use, so please return them to the end of the pews after Mass. All are encouraged to stand for the entire Passion, but please feel free to be seated as you

need to.

Christ became obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross. Because of this, God greatly exalted him and bestowed on him the name which is above every name.

Preface Dialogue “The Lord be with you.” And with your Spirit. “Lift up your hearts.” We lift them up to the Lord. “Let us give thanks to the Lord our God.” It is right and just.

God So Loved the World

Brothers in Christ

The Brothers in Christ Catholic Men’s Fellowship meets from 7:00pm-9:00pm

usually on the 4th Sundays of every month. Optional rosary is said from

6:30-7:00pm. We are located at the St. Francis Spiritual Center (old K of C hall)

on the corner of Sunset Ave. and 2nd Ave. in Independence. Parking is available in

the St. Michael Church parking lot which can be accessed form 2nd Ave.

MUSIC MINISTRY

We are always looking for musicians and/or singers that would like to share their gifts with the Parish family

and help lead us in praise and worship on Sundays and other Liturgical gatherings. If you or someone you know may be interested in joining this ministry, please contact Todd in the

Rehearsals are generally held on Wednesday nights at 6:30pm.

St. Michael Resurrection Choir

We are always looking for people to be a part of this special ministry. There are no formal

rehearsals, just a familiarity with the music sung at Mass is needed and the flexibility in your schedule to be able to sing in the

ST. VINCENT DE PAUL NEWS

We are overwhelmed by your continued support and generosity to St Michael's St Vincent DePaul Society. Your 5th Sunday donations totaled

$2410! You have generously supported our own Food Pantry with your nonperishable food donations as

well. St Michael's School donated hundreds, if not a couple of thousand, canned goods as well. Your

support will enable families to have food not only for Easter, but also through the spring season as

well. Thank you and may our Dear Lord continue to bless and to reward you for your kindness and prayers!

From our Pastor Jesus entered Jerusalem as a king the way prophet Zechariah said he would – on a mule-with humility and weakness. Jesus does not take possession of the Holy City in a worldly way like a warrior charging into Jerusalem. Place your Palms in a prominent place in your homes- Reflect on how they remind us how we have played the role of Peter in our own lives, lying and denying. That we have played the role of John: abandoning. That we have played the role of all the rest- arguing about who among us is the greatest- And here comes the Good News- The Joy of the Gospel- they remind us of the miracle of reconciliation-by reminding us of that great meal we celebrate together in which Jesus told us- I am among you as one who serves and the words he spoke to the thieves crucified on either side of him- Today you will be with me in Paradise. Of all the people on earth, of all the people who ever were and are and will be, how astounding, how incredible that the one appointed to bear all ills, to carry all wounds, to stand for all, to be sacrificed and resurrected, to be both king of pain and prince of light, should be a thin wood-worker, the son of a carpenter, a most devout and committed Jew. SUNDAY SCHOOL UPDATE

A friendly reminder there will be no class on Easter Sunday, April 21, 2019 Class will resume on Sunday, April 28, 2019.

It is also time to begin thinking of registering for the next session.

The next session will begin on Sunday Sept. 15, 2019 & end Sunday May 10, 2020. The program is open for ages 3 yrs. (toilet trained), 4 yrs., and 5 yrs. old.
