Learning and Living Our Catholic FaithMy Dear Brothers and Sisters in the Risen Lord Jesus,

Alleluia! On behalf of Dcn Jim, Fr Paul, Fr Dave, Fr Lino, Br Lou, Michael Halbrook and myself, Happy Easter!

May Mother Mary share with you her great joy in her risen Son, that you might know the embrace of the love of God in Jesus Christ! Alleluia!

Lent, the forty days leading up to today, was very, very different for me this year. Different because of death. And because my Lent was so different this year, so is my Easter - and the rest of my life. Already, since just before Ash Wednesday, this year, my weeks have been suffused with death...but not without hope. The tragic death of Captain Jake Ringering, of the GFPD, who laid down his life in the service of others on the night before Ash Wednesday, has affected us all. Jake was a man of God and family, who deeply loved God and his wife and children, and gave himself in service to them and to many in his daily and often-times demanding work. He was a convert to Catholicism, and took his faith seriously. I'll never forget him and family present here every Sunday at Mass.

From the time I was called to AMH and walked into that emergency room on Mardi Gras, and in the days that have followed with his family and our parish, and saw the fruit of his faith and love, alive in the strength of his wife and children, and in the incredible rallying around of an unlimited community, I probably like you, knew that my life would never be the same, must never be the same. Out of love, this man walked toward death without fear, just as our Lord Jesus invites us all to do daily.

Since then, In these last forty plus days, the Lord asked me, Fr Paul and Fr Lino to attend to many of his flock as they were dying; to hear their final confession and to anoint them, give them the Apostolic Pardon, and to speak words of mercy, peace and hope to them as our Heavenly Father drew them to himself. We were also called be prayerfully present to those who mourned their dead and to celebrate a number of funeral Masses and preside at several burials. I cannot recall a similar period of time in my life that has been so deeply permeated with death.

It has been a time of reflection for me as I mourned and wept with the dying, the dead, and their loved ones. By God's grace each time I was sent by the Lord to accompany the dying or their families in these days, the Lord was at my side, and theirs, to forgive, strengthen, fill with faith and hope in Himself and his plan of love and eternal life. Actually, it would be more precise to say I was at the Lord's side as He ministered to his beloved children whom he was calling home. He is truly present when we serve each other in love. And in walking with all of these dearly beloved, I have seen courage, faith, hope and love in them....all the gifts that God had given them, and which they knew and relied upon.

As I have prayed throughout Lent, and now celebrate Easter and the Resurrection of Jesus and our life in him, I am struck by two simple truths. None of those who died in these past 40 days knew when they would die. None of us knows. But surely death will come. Secondly, this: Our Heavenly Father knows. Jesus knows. The Holy Spirit knows. Yes, God knows. And there is great consolation in God's knowing. God knows as God knows - that is to say eternally...from all eternity. But He also knows because He suffered through death. He lived through death. He is present to each of us, always, including at the hour of our death, the moment of our death....and through our judgement.

The Risen Lord Jesus invites us to receive his full embrace now, and to walk in that joyful embrace all the days of our life and through the moment of death, when we will see him face to face, and know his love eternally, and be reunited with our loved ones who have gone before us. EASTER SUNDAYTHE RESURRECTION OF THE LORD - SOLEMNITY

Focus: The risen Christ seeks to transform and redeem our lives.

The resurrection of the Lord is the highest of all feasts – the day in which we celebrate the truth that Jesus conquers and redeems every darkness of life, even death itself. Truly this is a day of rejoicing! For even when events are unclear to us – when we do not understand what we see before us, like those who saw the empty tomb – we can be confident in the words and promises of God.

In the first reading, we hear Peter proclaiming the life, death and resurrection of Jesus Christ. In Paul’s Letter to the Colossians, Saint Paul says if we’ve been raised with Christ we should seek the things of God; he reminds us that Jesus’ resurrection transforms and redeems our whole lives. In John’s Gospel, Mary Magdalene – upon arriving at the tomb and realizing that the stone had been rolled away – runs to Simon Peter and John to tell them that Jesus’ body had been taken. They both go to the tomb, and while neither yet understands the Scripture that Jesus had to rise from the dead, John sees and believes.

PART ONE - THE PROFESSION OF FAITHSECTION ONE - "I BELIEVE" - "WE BELIEVE"God Comes To Meet Man / Sacred Scripture –

The Holy Spirit, Interpreter of Scripture112. Be especially attentive "to the content and unity of the whole Scripture". Different as the books which compose it may be, Scripture is a unity by reason of the unity of God's plan, of which Christ Jesus is the center and heart, open since his Passover.79

The phrase "heart of Christ" can refer to Sacred Scripture, which makes known his heart, closed before the Passion, as the Scripture was obscure. But the Scripture has been opened since the Passion; since those who from then on have understood it, consider and discern in what way the prophecies must be interpreted.80

Your prayers are requested for the souls ofHarold White

Sarah “Sally” StahlschmidtMark WuellnerJessica Quiller

“May their souls and the souls of all the faithful departed through the mercy of God rest in peace.”

Until then, we recall all this, we rejoice and with amazement, are undyingly grateful for the fact that the Risen Lord is still with us! On Holy Thursday he instituted the Priesthood and the Holy Eucharist! He's here in the Eucharist! At every Mass and also waiting for us in the Tabernacle. Every Sunday he invites, no, in love, He commands, "Come and know my love for you! Receive me and bring me to the world!" Alleluia!

Brothers and Sisters, Alleluia! He made us and died for us; we belong to him! Alleluia!

Happy Easter! He is risen! Alleluia! Because of this, our lives can never be the same! Alleluia! – Fr Jeremy OMV

THE KIOSK CORNERThe Call to Evangelize—Booklet

Are you prepared to evangelize, to communicate the gospel to others? Amid the numerous urgent calls today to do so, many may find themselves unable to 'move towards others' with a genuine experience of God's forgiveness, mercy and joy. This text's proposal for true intimacy with the person of Jesus is both highly instructive and encouraging. To be genuine witnesses, disciples in todays fractured and wounded world must make space for contemplative prayer and for a tangible, living and personal relationship with the Lord.Fr. Anthony Doe is a priest of the Archdiocese of Westminster. He is a qualified psychotherapist who exercises his priestly ministry as a therapist and spiritual director. He also gives retreats and spiritual conferences.

PRAYER CORNERRegin Caeli (Queen of Heaven)

V. Queen of Heaven, rejoice, alleluia.R. For He whom you did merit to bear, alleluia.

V. Has risen, as he said, alleluia.R. Pray for us to God, alleluia.

V. Rejoice and be glad, O Virgin Mary, alleluia.R. For the Lord has truly risen, alleluia.

Let us pray. O God, who gave joy to the world through the resurrection of Thy Son, our Lord Jesus

Christ, grant we beseech Thee, that through the intercession of the Virgin Mary, His Mother, we may obtain the joys of everlasting life. Through the same

Christ our Lord. Amen.

The soul that will go to Confession and receive Holy Communion shall obtain complete forgiveness of sins and punishment. On that day all the divine floodgates through which grace flow are opened.
