between humanity and divinity. This is what our priests do every Sunday: they invoke and open this channel of divine grace – through Christ who opens for us and shares with us his divine priesthood.

We celebrate in the priesthood of Christ exemplified in our bishops, the descendants of the Apostles of Christ, and in the ordained priests of our communities. As we look forward to a visit from our bishops or to new and upcoming ordinations we are reminded by the Scriptures of this special gift of priesthood as a manifestation of Jesus Christ’s presence among us. This gift of priesthood is one of the many gifts that we share as we bear Christ’s light in us and among us: Emanuel (God is with us!)

Our Scripture readings today show us how this gift, of the laying of hands over the head of the one ordained, is a special gift sanctified by the Apostolic Church: so that the graces of God’s sacraments may flow freely through the ordained. The priest becomes the Steward of Christ who gives his people their bread from heaven in due time for sustenance through his divine power. The power of Christ’s mystery in priesthood is clearly manifested in the Prayer of the Elevation when the Church addressed Christ her Bridegroom saying:

You are the Lamb of the Sacrifice and yet also the Priest who offered himself for us. May our prayers be like incense in your sight!

And now as we pray in thanksgiving for this wonderful gift of the priesthood, and the service of the shepherds – bishops and priests of the past – let us also pray for the priests and shepherds of the future, that this service may not be rationed through shortages in vocations. Let us do whatever we can to encourage our priests and those in ministry for greater dedication, as our service to Christ himself: the Lamb of God’s love and the High Priest of all bishops and priests. Abouna’s Corner

Dear Parishioners and Friends,

The Festival of the Birth of the Lord came to a beautiful end on Thursday as we celebrated the Feast of the Lord’s Presentation. 40 days have passed since Christmas and we have quickly seen New Year’s Day, Epiphany and January fly behind us. Now we enter in the period of Commemorations as we prepare to enter Great Lent.

This particular Sunday has a profound impact on me. I was honored to know many priests in my life that were a great influence. Most have passed on to the Heavenly Kingdom. Their sacrifice and hard work in the Vineyard of the Lord touched many souls and led them into deeper union with Our Lord. They also saved many souls. These men were called by God to give their lives in service to His people. We all know priests who served God, despite many hardships, and now are at rest in His Kingdom. Pray for them! One day, I will be the one being prayed for on this Sunday. Hold not my faults and sins against me, but forgive me and pray for me, both while I live and when I have fallen asleep in the Lord. Pray for Father Chris while he is still with us. Pray for a long and happy ministry for Father Aaron, one of our own. May God send us many men who will work to save souls in the future. Yet today, we remember those gone before us. May God be merciful, forgive their sins and transgressions and grant them the rest of the Just! May they rest in peace and may their memories be eternal!

I hope that you enjoy this Superbowl Sunday. Remember there will NOT be a 7 PM Liturgy tonight due to the game. Come to the 4 PM Vigil or the 11 AM Sunday Mass. Have a great weekend!

Have a blest Sunday! See you in Church!!

Salaam!
