of the Newman Center!

We also celebrate those preparing for

graduation and the completion of their

college or graduate career at the

UofA. We are very proud of you, and

wish you the best in the future!

Lastly we celebrate Fr. Thomas

Saucier and his two years of abundant

ministry that he has shared with

us. It has been a blessing to have him as a

partner in this rising ministry! May God

bless him as he transitions this summer to

Los Angeles, to continue his ministry and

discernment in the City of Angels at St.

Dominic’s Church in Eagle Rock,

California.

We have been graced by all these

stewards who have enriched our lives

with their talents and commitment to the

SUSTAINING BOARD MEMBERSHIP DRIVE The Newman Sustaining Board is accepting new members for the 2018-2019 year until May 16th, 2018. The board consists of about 100 women who support or sustain this

Newman Center. Their main focus is the students; scholar-ships, retreats, making this center inviting, and feeding

them home cooked meals monthly. The board has many social activities for members to enjoy. If interested please

CASA MARIA CATHOLIC WORKER HOUSE

Casa Maria’s mission, as part of the lay catholic

worker movement founded in 1930 in New York City by Dorothy Day

and Peter Maurin, is to practice daily the love and compassion of Jesus and to

implement the teachings of his Gospel and the social doctrine of our church. The Sermon on the Mount and the

call to solidarity with the poor are the heart of these teachings and call us to action everyday.

WEEKLY FOOD COLLECTIONS Bring non-perishable food items with you at Mass and leave in the boxes at the entrances to the Church. All donations will be split between Casa Maria, Povorello

House, Sister Jose Center and Pio Decimo Center

OPERATION RICE BOWL REMINDER Turn in your CRS Rice Bowls during the Offertory at the Newman Office. Any checks for this campaign should be

KINO BORDER INITIATIVE

Kino Border Initiative is a bi-national ministry of the Society of Jesus and Sisters of the Eucharist which provides support

for migrants who have been deported from the United States and are on their way

back to their homes in Latin America. Newman provides breakfast to migrants on the first and third Saturday of the month. Volunteers prepare food on

Friday evenings and Saturday mornings, leaving Newman at 6:45AM to drive to Nogales, Sonora, Mexico to serve

breakfast to migrants. If you are interested in participating in the KBI Project, please Joji Maes at

COMMUNITY FOOD BANK ANNOUNCEMENTS Saturday, May 12th – National Association of Letter Carrier Food Drive – leave your food at your mailbox before your letter carrier picks up. This is the largest food drive of the year for the Community Food Bank. We hope to collect

300,000 pounds of food in this one day to help us provide much needed help during the summer months.

Friday, June 8th, 9 a.m. – 2 p.m. – Teen Leaders Against

Hunger Workshop and Volunteer Experience. A day at the Community Food Bank will give you leadership experience

that you can use in college and beyond. Registration required at [email protected]. Certificate of

completion awarded to all attendees. Open to High School students.
