Kindness. Children are taught it. Individuals hunger for it. Our world seems to lack it. In the Gospel today, a rich man is described as having “sumptuous meals” each day. A poor beggar, Lazarus, would have LOVED to have had even his scraps. It would have been kind for the rich man to give his leftovers, but clearly he did not share. The simplest of kindness left undone. I am struck by the line in the gospel: “Moreover, between us and you a great chasm is established.” Chasm is a good visual word! You really get the sense of how far reaching the rich man would have to go to be where Lazarus is in heaven. The rich man is so far away, because he didn’t notice the needs of others and give out of the kindness of his heart. Last week I was at Market Basket. When I got in line at the checkout I heard the sweet cry of a little new born baby. I looked over and about 4 or 5 registers down was a young Mom loading her groceries on the conveyer belt. As she did, her little one screamed louder and louder. Suddenly, a woman about my age stopped and went over to her. She said “You pick up that little cutie and I’ll load your groceries for you.” I never saw a Momma scoop up a baby so fast. They be-gan to talk and the woman behind them in line started saying how she remembered when her kids where small like that. They were all chatting and laughing. Women – different ages, different races, different stages of life. What brought them together? A noticed need, met by a simple kindness. I’ll bet that young Mom told her husband about the woman who changed a hard shopping trip into a conversation full of laughter and understanding. A simple kindness. Who can you offer one to today? Farwell My Friends It is with a heavy heart that I share with you that I have resigned from my position as Ministry Coordinator for the parish. It has been a very difficult decision, but after many months of discernment it is clear to me that this is the right determination. I wish to thank all of you for the many loving and faith-filled moments that we have shared during my time working at the parish, and I pray for God’s graces & blessings for each of you, always and every-where. I am very much looking forward to continuing to worship with all of you at mass, and to be with you in fellowship and love at the many parish functions. I love you all! Xoxo, Kay Barretto

What’s Happening at KidsChurch at MQP during the 9:30 am Liturgy

KidsChurch and Children’s Liturgy of the Word

Is there a difference? YES!!!! KidsChurch is for preschool children and it provides them with an age -appropriate experience of church during the 9:30 Mass…. They meet in the KidscChurch Room while parents are in the church attending mass. Children’s Liturgy of the Word is for children up to grade 5. Before the readings begin at Mass, children are dismissed where they meet in the Emmaus Room to listen and discuss the readings at their level. Before the Prayers of the Faithful they rejoin us for the rest of the Mass (i.e. Liturgy of the Eucharist). Since Dawn Pavlini, the former lead teacher of KidsChurch retired, we are in the process of identifying and meeting with candidates who will continue this children’s ministry. A meeting is scheduled with Fr. Vincent on Friday, Oct 4th at 7:00pm in the Family Room below St Joseph Church. This meeting is for KidsChurch and Children’s Liturgy of the Word volunteers. Would you be interested or do you know someone who would love to pray, sing, tell Bible stories, and do a craft with our younger parishioners? If interested or you have any questions, feel free to join us at this meeting or contact Sue Levesque at the parish office (603) 893-8661 ext. 107 OR [email protected]

Charitable Team Effort Two prominent local charitable organizations have teamed up to support a local food pantry at St. Joseph Church, Saints Mary & Jo-seph Parish, with donations to allow for the installation of a wheel-chair lift to permit access to the lower level of the church. Last year the Food Pantry served more than 1,444 families a total of 16,260 meals! Shown here, Beth Roth, President of the Salem Rotary Club pre-sents a check for $10,000 to Kelly Lavoie, Food Pantry Coordinator while Ron Bourque, Grand Knight of the Knights of Columbus, Bish-op Peterson Council #4442 presents Rev. Vincent Onunkwo, Parish Administrator a similarly generous donation through previously made progress payments. Other local contractors and volunteers have also contributed to this effort. Team work at it’s best! A heartfelt Thank You to everyone who has supported this major project which began in the spring and is expected to be completed in October.

Raffle Baskets for Harvestfest We are looking for Themed Gift Baskets to help us with our fundraising goal of $10,000 to help defray our winter fuel costs. Baskets do not have to be done by one person. Your group can do one together, or your family, neighbors or another club can fill one. Get some friends together and have a fun basket-making-get-together!!! If you do make a basket, we ask that you text or email your theme and include a list of the contents of the basket. You cannot always see everything in the basket, so it helps to be able to list the contents. All Baskets need to be delivered to Mary Queen of Peace Church, 200 Lawrence Rd. Salem between Saturday, October 12th at the 4 pm Mass thru Thursday, October 18th by 5 pm. For any and all questions - as well as sending your theme and list - contact: Justine Dufour 603-244-6218 OR [email protected]
