SYNOPSIS: A passenger brought a firearm through terminal 2 screening, where it was located by TSA in his carry onbaggage. FBI agent came out and interviewed the passenger and declined to take any action. The passenger wasarrested and taken to the Salt Lake County Jail and booked in without incident. DETAILS: I responded to Terminal Two screening, lane two on a report of a firearm located in a passengers carry onluggage. TSA officer, Randy Glenn, discovered what appeared to be a firearm in carry on luggage in the lanetwo baggage x-ray machine. I went over and viewed the X-Ray screen and could make out the clear shape of afirearm with bullets in the magazine. I obtained the bag from the baggage belt and took it over to the passenger,BYRNE, Patrick, and asked him if he knew of a firearm he would be carrying. He stated he did not know of agun in his luggage and had no idea where it would be. I opened the outer pocket on the luggage and noticed thefirearm sitting on top of an Apple Ipad inside. I retrieved the weapon from the bag and cleared it of any possiblerounds in the chamber. The chamber was empty and the magazine contained twelve rounds of .40 caliber hollowpoint bullets. Mr. BYRNE was arrested and transported to the station for further investigation.FBI NOTIFICATION: I contacted Agent Cameron Smilie of the FBI and told him of the firearm. Agent Smilie responded to the stationand talked with Mr. Byrne for a few minutes. He informed us that the FBI would not take any action. INTERVIEW: Once the FBI was done talking with Mr. Byrne, Sgt. Bretzing and I conducted an interview with Mr. Byrne.Mr. Byrne was read his Miranda rights and agreed to speak with us, without an attorney present. A copy of theinterview was recorded and burned to a DVD and placed with the detective Sergeant for review. STATEMENTS MADE IN INTERVIEW: "Yes, I packed my own bag." When asked if he put the gun in his bag, "I may have slipped it in there." "I keep the gun next to my bed every night" "I haven't used that bag in over a year." OFFICER ACTIONS: Mr. Byrne was taken to the Salt Lake County Jail and booked in on the concealed weapons violation. Thepistol, Glock 23 .40 caliber-S/N: , one magazine and twelve rounds of ammunition were taken to Salt





Lake City evidence and processed in. Mr. Byrne's carry on bag was booked in for safe keeping. Mr. Byrne alsohad a large amount of cash with him in the amount of $3178.00. I made note of all currency and had OfficerStrasburg verify the amount while he was down at the evidence room. Photos were also taken and placed intoevidence. NFI T. Wagner 169V AP# 2310
