Overview Your energy policy does not have to be long and complicated. In fact if you keep it simple it will be easier to communicate to all members of your organisation and get their buy-in.

Sample Policy Goals

Include any commitments the organisation will make in managing energy. For example: “We are committed to buying and using energy in the most cost-effective, efficient and environmentally responsible way possible. To achieve this we will: • Improve energy efficiency continuously by implementing

effective energy management programs that support all operations and customer satisfaction while providing a safe and comfortable work environment.

• Become one of the most energy-efficient organisations

in our industry on a kilowatt-hour per square foot basis. • Achieve, for example, ‘Sustainability Victoria’s Sustainable

Energy Use Award’ for use on promotional material and packaging.”

• Compared with 2010 baseline, reduce energy use by 10

percent per square foot by 2013 and 20 percent per square foot by 2018.

• Educate employees about how to save energy at work.

Applicability This policy shall apply to all facilities, business units and employees.
