The Sandy Keys is back and better than ever with its last issue of this school year! While this year went by fast, we accomplished so many things and changed the lives of so many people, thanks to the help of each and every one of you! Although this year is coming ot a close, this service year has just begun. So, I hope you’ll be joining us over the summer and this fall to make this Key Club the best it has ever been!

Four Square Tournament By Leor Golan

On Tuesday, May 27th, fourteen teams gathered at

MAST to compete in the 3rd annual ELIMINATE

Four Square Tournament. Each pair battled in a

tournament style competition in the game of four

square. At MAST, this seemingly simple game is

extremely popular amongst all of the grade levels.

After two hours of gaming, Nick Konecny, senior,

and Sawyer Napoli, senior, won the coveted trophy.

It was an extremely fun and exciting day for

everyone, bringing in a total of $280 for the

ELIMINATE Project. The money raised was enough

to save 155 lives from Maternal and Neonatal

Tetanus. Thanks to all who participated!

Yuda Bands

readily accessible and it is nearly

impossible to get an education.

However, with the help of the MAST

community and Key Club, we raised a

total of $1,729 to send to Guatemala for

these two young students. We are so

proud of our achievement and now have

a reminder of what we did to help them

when we wear our beautiful Yuda Bands.

From May 27th to June 10th, MAST

hosted the Yuda Bands program right on

campus. For $7, students and faculty

alike were able to purchase hand crafted

leather bracelets. All of the proceeds

went towards sponsoring two

Guatemalan students, named Ana and

Manolo. Unfortunately for these two

teenagers, educational facilities are not

made a difference and wondering why others have yet to do the same. MAST may have slowed down at this point in the year, but the MAST Key Club most certainly has not. The Foursquare Tournament, Soccer Tournament, and Par Garden have proved that we are dedicated to a year round service year. So, my friends, I ask that you enjoy your summers and return to us in September with an open mind and a full heart ready to save even more lives, feed even more of the hungry, provide even more students with the educations they deserve, and help our community in more ways than we have ever before. See you all next fall, and remember, service opportunities are everywhere, so never let one pass you by!

The end of the school year is a sensitive time for any Key Club. It can either make or break a service year, as summer events are often few and far between. Getting the ball rolling on summer service proves to be a difficult task, especially at the Marine Academy where students have little time for Key Club meetings between studying for finals, enjoying the lovely weather, and generally relaxing as another year of academic intrigue and stress comes to a close. Attendance rates tend to drop and officers become frustrated with the lack of interest and motivation year after year. However, many active members continue to attend every single event! There are a select few who take the time to participate even when others feel they have better things to do. These members never regret their service – they have loads of fun at Key Club Events, feeling like they have

Until Next Time! We’re signing out for the school year, but that

does not mean your service should come to a

halt. On those lazy summer days when there

seems to be nothing to do but lay on the couch,

think of all of the people you could be helping

and all of the fun you could simultaneously be

having. This summer, I challenge you to make

the most of your time and try your best to help

your community, even if you contribute only an

hour this summer. Come back to MAST in

September knowing you have made a difference,

however small that difference may be. I promise

you, it is a wonderful feeling!
