Page 2 Service Adventure NewsAmanda Hunsberger:

I am from Shipshewana, IN. I am nineteen and just

graduated from high school this past year. I decided to gointo Service Adventure to give myself another year to think

about what I wanted to do with the rest of my life. I also

chose Service Adventure so that I could serve the Lord andget to know Him better. It has been an awesome experience

so far. Hopefully you all feel the same way. I have learned

lots of things so far. Everything from fun

learning component activities to where I am at in myrelationship with Christ.

I love people and hanging out with friends and family. I like to play sports. In high school I ran

track and played soccer. I also enjoy art and nature. And I like to watch movies, but preferably notafter 9:00 pm or I will fall asleep. (Just ask the other girls.) I tend to like to go to bed early and wake

    up early.

I am placed at ACRP and New Day. I work at ACRP in the morning from 8:00-12:00. I work as a

classroom support. ACRP stands for Alternative Community Resource Program. At New Day Istart at 1:00 and end at 6:00. New Day is an after school program/ministry for elementary/ middle

    school kids.

Rachel Kennell:I was born and raised in a little town called

Roanoke in Illinois. I just turned 20 in October. A fewof the things I enjoy are reading, watching movies,

playing sports, staying up late and sleeping in, doing

crossword puzzles, and baking.I graduated from high school in 2009 and went to

a community college and lived at home for a year before

Service Adventure. Next year I plan on attending

Bluffton College and completing my degree there. Mymajor is child development, so it's cool that I get to have

the experience here working with children to learn about what I want to do with the rest of my life

when I graduate from college.I work at Headstart in a preschool classroom in the mornings and at an after school program

called New Day in the afternoons. God has really been challenging me in my faith and calling me to

step out of my comfort zone. My passion in life is really showing Christ to children and teaching

them about God. God has been so good to give me this year opportunity to be able to concentrate ondoing just that. He has also been teaching me a lot about how to live and get along with new people.

It's been really cool to learn more about them and about myself. God is so good and His

faithfulness is shown to me in a new way every day here in Johnstown.

I am from Harrisonburg, VA. I graduated from a

Christian private high school this past year. I wasn't surewhat I wanted to do if I went to college so I decided to take a

year off and serve the Lord. Hopefully I will have more of an

idea what I want to do after Service Adventure. I alsodecided to do Service Adventure so I could have a deeper

relationship with Christ and to experience living with other

people from different places. I have enjoyed cooking with

the other girls and learning new things from learningcomponents.

I enjoy chilling with friends and family. I like to write poetry, read, bake, play on the piano,

art, nature and sing. I was in a choir with my school this past year and we toured Europe for threeweeks this past summer. I love to stay up late and have had fun watching movies with the girls and

    other friends we have made.

I am placed at Head Start and New Day. I work at Head Start in the morning from 8-12. I help

a preschool teacher in her room with the kids and help to feed them breakfast and lunch. In theafternoon I work at New Day from 1-6. I help out the kids with games, crafts and also help to feed

    them snack

Sandra Tornow:I am from Berlin, Germany. It was my dream to go to

the US since I was a little girl! My last year in school was

difficult for me because it was so fast and I needed tomake a decision on what I wanted! (By the way: I hate

decisions! But I need them!) So, my friend and mentor

told me a little bit about CD (Christian services) andabout an opportunity to do something for God, for

myself, and to visit the US. I was excited and wrote an

application to this organization, but I wasn't sure if this isexactly what God wanted for my life! They invited me

and said that my life-story goes deep. "We want and see you in Service Adventure in Johnstown!"

(Now I can be honest: my wish was to go to California, because they don't have winter and it's warm

there!) But God wants me here in Johnstown and I can be a testimony in different ways! I work inan alternative school with kids. These kids have almost the same background as me! Sometimes it

touches my soul deeper than I thought it would, but I know they need me and God tells me all the

time that I can help! I can tell them that there is hope and that there are better solutions than, I give

up!" It is exciting to see that God is always with me in each situation, each day! Especially inworship night! I know this is exactly what God wants from me! He is always there and He blesses us

with themes and verses! He speaks in so many ways to us! Unbelievable!I love the Unit and the Girls. It's interesting to see how fast you learn to love each other! We like to

do weird and confusing things! We like to be crazy and this is good!

I enjoyed the visit with the east coast units a lot and I'm looking forward to see each of them again! Now I know that we aren't the only crazy Unit!

Thank God for the opportunity to serve you! :)

Page 4 Service Adventure NewsMatt Alwine: aka Matt. I'm a super hero from the hills of Thomas Mills. I've been trained and my

skills honed on a dairy farm in an undisclosed area just outside of this miniature town. It is only now

that I have ventured outside my lair, to the not so bustling city of Johnstown, to lead some helplesswomankind in the ways of MMN's Service Adventure, they'll let anyone work for them. But now I

have been subjected to taking out the garbage, the only one who answers the land line phone (except

Amanda, they make her do it too), and answering to the continuous calls to fix something. (Of whichI execute perfectly.) By day, I am a simple John Deere mechanic and service manager. But by

night...I...sleep. However, I continue to lurk. Waiting for opportunity to share what God has done for

me and how He has taught me. Life has been wonderful and interesting with my wife Melanie since

I've been married three times. (Don't let her cute German accent throw you off.) But we forge ontogether to learn more about what God has for this area of Kernville

(the ritzy part of town), the churches which love us and support us, our

placements, and this new family full of all girls. (Fellas, its not asgreat as you might think. Trust me. One is enough... I sympathize with

King David.) Oh...what's that! I'm being summoned. Another damsel

    in distress. Duty calls.

Melanie Alwine: I'm the serious and the one of the marriage that isdirect and to the point. I was born and raised in Lage, Germany with

my 3 brothers. I was a SA volunteer in 2004-2005 in Johnstown where

I met my husband. He ruined my life. Well not completely. I havereally come to enjoy learning and working with the girls in our unit

this year. Some things are harder than I thought but other things are

much easier and been a wonderful blessing. God has been stretching me in some ways but I knowits good. Along with trying to keep the house clean and running smooth, I work and an eye doctors

office as an optician. In my spare time I enjoy cooking, baking, and shopping.

    Our Quotables:

Sandra - "Can I stick this up your nose?"Sandra - "I wanna baby!" Melanie - "Sandra, There's an order!"
