Sant valentine’s day

has arrived, and that means chocolate is going to be bought and eaten by people all over the world. Most people would describe chocolate as a sweet, and they are totally right. Most of the chocolate sold in stores is processed with sugar, milk, and other additives. That makes it a junk food. And as everyone knows, that kind of chocolate is not only bad for your teeth, but it is also bad for your body. Sugar is like a poison in your blood if you eat too much of it.

However, chocolate, in its purest form is actually a very healthy thing to eat! I’m talking about dark, unprocessed, bitter, raw cacao; not your average processed milk chocolate candy. Dark, unsweetened chocolate contains something called flavonoids. Flavonoids are like a medicine. They are also found in certain vegetables, fruits, red wine and teas, but there are much more of them in raw chocolate. The flavonoids protect your body from many diseases and illnesses. The flavonoids in dark chocolate, for example, protect your heart from disease, lower your cholesterol, and can protect your brain after a stroke.

But here’s something perhaps even better about chocolate: eating it can make you happy. That’s right. Chocolate also contains a substance called phenylethylamine. Phenylethylamine is the same hormone that your brain makes when you are in love. So eating good quality, organic, dark chocolate can keep you healthy and make you happy. No wonder it’s associated with the most romantic day of the year: February 14th, St. Valentine’s Day.

Can you get good quality dark chocolate where you live? Is it expensive? How often do you eat or drink chocolate? Tell us what you think.
