We want to introduce you to Colin Abbot. His parents and sister (Josh, Taryn and Taylor) worship with us as do his grandparents, Gary & Sandra Owens. Colin was diagnosed with Duchenne Muscular Distrophy as a toddler. This type of Muscular Distrophy is aggressive and there is currently no cure. For boys with DMD, their muscles will slowly waste away. Between the ages of 10-12, most

are bound to a wheelchair and do not survive their mid-20s. Instead of focusing on the negative, Colin’s family decided to fight and are determined to help find a cure for boys with DMD.

Colin is now 7 years old and is in a 4-year long clinical trial that requires him to go to Cincinnati Children’s Hospital weekly. Despite the challenges he faces each day, he stays positive and enjoys the outdoors and playing outside as much as possible.

The family is raising awareness and funding to find a cure for Duchenne Muscular Distrophy. They are hosting a 5K Run/Walk

on Saturday, April 14 at Equestrian Lakes in Finchville. Registration begins at 8am and the event begins at 9am

You can register for the event and read Colin’s story at colinsdream.com.

What is Colin’s DREAM? Colin’s DREAM (Duchenne Research Education And Miracle) mission is to raise awareness and funding for the advancement of scientific research for Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy. We are a non-profit, charitable organization with 100% of the proceeds donated to Nationwide Children’s Hospital Research, located in Columbus, Ohio. It is one of the leading research facilities for future Duchenne treatments.

Adventure Club is supporting Colin’s DREAM by hosting the

1st Annual Colins DREAM Dance-a Thon Friday, April 13 from 11-11:50am

Colin’s sister, Taylor attends preschool at Adventure Club and Colin until most recently attended our After School Program. Students are asking family, friends and neighbors to

sponsor them for any amount. Parents can send e-mails to far-away family and friends asking them to sponsor as well. We’re asking each preschool student to raise a minimum of $25 to

attend the dance however no student will be excluded from the Dance-a-Thon. Our goal is to raise at least $2000.

Historical Hollingsworth

Kentucky Pioneer Cemetery

Dedication

Sunday, April 22 at 2pm

There was a secret in Simpsonville for many years that

was recently uncovered-literally. The presence of the historic Hollingsworth Cemetery was virtually

unknown due to overgrown shrubs and bushes. Several members of the Susannah Hollingsworth

family are buried here as well as her neighbor, David White.

What makes this cemetery so important to SBC? The founding 43 members of SBC include David

White, Susannah Rice Hollingsworth, and Susan Hollingsworth - all of whom are buried in the

cemetery. The church was constituted on April 22, 1830 - which is exactly 188 years from the date

of the Dedication!

Elder John Dale was chosen to be our first pastor, and he served for thirteen years. We had good

growth and in 1834 the membership had jumped from 43 to 177. In 1840 there were 233 members

and by 1847 the number had increased to 345. This growth was accomplished largely through some

good revival meetings. In 1847 eighty-one were received by baptism.

David White Sr. was a Revolutionary War soldier. During the Cemetery Dedication, his grave will be

honored as such. Our founding members had a vision for Simpsonville Baptist Church, and that

vision is now in our hands. We encourage you to attend this dedication in their honor. The

cemetery is located immediately to the East of the church office buildings.

Immeasurably more generosity Emphasis

Vision Statement

Equipping SBC to reach the world with the life-changing gospel of Jesus Christ.

Theme Verse

"Now to him who is able to do IMMEASURABLY MORE than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us, to him be glory in

the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, forever and ever! Amen Ephesians 3:20-21

Commitment Sunday was so much more than making a financial commitment to our Immeasurably More Emphasis. It was joining in fellowship to celebrate a new life in Christ for 7 new Believers! It was about making a commitment to disciple and grow these who are new to our Church family. We heard wonderful and inspiring testimonies of God working in lives with conviction of the Holy Spirit.

A Message from Steve CELEBRATION AND REVELATION SUNDAY was a tremendous blessing! Our faith family showed unity by prayerfully and sacrificially supporting the spiritual, facility and generosity vision of the church. I have personally been blessed, inspired and encouraged by your dedication to God's vision for our church.

The biggest question everyone wants to know is when will we be able to begin construction? What has already been stated? We are praying for a minimum of $3.7M in pledges to begin construction. Currently, we have pledged $2,669,000, leaving us $1,031,000 to reach our goal. Our finance team will continue to discuss healthy guidelines to lower any risk and to enable a 10-year payoff of facilities.

I believe we will receive more pledges in the next few weeks for the IMMEASURABLY MORE emphasis. I believe we will have new members in 2018/19 that will want to help us with this God-given vision. We also may have families that feel led by God to give assets that will be realized in the next one or two years.

Let's continue to join together in prayer and belief! We are learning that we are STRONGER AND BETTER TOGETHER! We have begun to see a miracle and we pray that God will bring it to pass.

Consider the following participation in our IMMEASURABLY MORE facility and generosity emphasis.

130 families have pledged to support the facility and generosity emphasis so far!

Our COMMITMENT DAY total pledges were $1,553,891. Our Total Funds Given/Pledged are $2,682,539. If the church approves a $2M loan, we have total

USABLE FUNDS available of $4,682,539. Out of a projected facility cost of $5.7M, we need

$1,017,461 to reach our pledge goal.

A message from our Immeasurably More Director I think the first time I heard the phrase, “Keep the main thing, the main thing” was when Bro. Bill Duke was the Director of Missions for the Shelby Baptist Association. He and his wife, Katie had moved from California to the house on the Shelby Baptist Camp property on Dover Road and joined Simpsonville Baptist Church during their service here in Shelby County. Bill was an easy man to spot because of his size. He played Goliath in one of our children’s musical plays and shook the building when he fell to the floor from David’s sling shot. (He also cracked my frozen pond once when he slipped and fell while playing with our family on the ice.) Bro. Bill spoke with a booming voice. From him, I’ve never forgotten that in all we do in our service to our Lord through our church that we must keep our focus on sharing Christ with those who have yet to hear (evangelism) and then sharing life with each other in a full-time walk with Jesus (discipleship). In all that God has done through our Immeasurably More emphasis, I am most appreciative that our staff has kept the ‘main thing the main thing’ as we learned more than about generosity and sharing in God’s vision for our church. It would have been all too easy to have just focused on money, the physical building and forgotten the more important thing… our spiritual building, our walk with God…. The Main Thing! God has blessed us abundantly, immeasurably more than we could have ever imagined through ~$2.7M from our church in committed funds and receipts towards our new worship center building. Our Finance Team will soon bring options for the Master Plan Initiative Team (MPIT) to review and jointly bring recommendation(s) for our church to first openly discuss and consider in our Ministry Meeting(s) before eventually bringing a motion for church-wide vote to the whole congregation. Pray diligently that we will stay united and focused on God’s will and timing as we move forward in our church’s deci-sions. This is a joyous time for our church since we now know most all the factors in considering the direction our church will take in our physical building plans. The main question will now be ‘when’, not ‘if’ we are able to build a new worship center, gathering space, offices, class-rooms and newly remodeled youth space. But, the main thing is always the main thing… “Do not fear me,” says the Lord Almighty. “I, the Lord do not change.” (Malachi 3: 5b-6). We shall not stray from equipping Simpsonville Baptist Church to reach the world with the gospel chang-ing message of Jesus Christ.

“Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance. Let perseverance finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything. If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you.” (James 1: 2-5). J.O.Y. Jesus first, Others second, Yourself last. Glorify and Delight in the Lord. Simpsonville Baptist Church has again been blessed! Lowell Ashby, Emphasis Director

We have had a great response to the implementation of online giving. Over 25 people are using easyTithe and have contributed

over $4,500 in the short time easyTithe has been offered. Here are a few tips that can help you use online giving:

When choosing whether to use your checking account or credit card, keep in mind that the processing charge for a checking account is less than the processing charge for a credit card. Therefore, more of your gift goes to the church when using your bank account.

You can set up recurring gifts for your tithe as well as other designations, such as the new Worship Center Building Fund.

In addition to online giving, you will also start seeing SBC offering online registrations to most of our events in the future. Women may register for the upcoming Pricilla Shirer Simulcast by visiting http://simpsonvillebaptist.com/ministries/womens-ministry . When possible, we would encourage everyone to use online giv-ing and online registrations. Why? Online giving information is imported directly into the financial system saving our staff time on the manual process of entering this information. Recurring gifts offer the additional benefit of being sure your gift is made even when you are out of town or unable to attend church. Online registrations help streamline the registration process and tracking for our various events.
