BeBloomin Institutetm and the Otsego County Commission on Aging are co-hosts for the next BeLivesm event in Gaylord, Michigan, where 100 years ago, on April 30th, 1916, Claude Shannon was born. As the man who fathered the Mathematical Theory of Communication, it is fitting that we should celebrate the life of Gaylord’s native son with a virtual birthday party.
Our Hosts:Keith Moore - Executive Director of Otsego County United Way and board member of the Otsego County Historical Society.Phil Alexander is a longtime volunteer with the Otsego County Historical Society. His interests focus on what we can see today that reflects our past.
Both our veteran BeLive hosts are extremely knowledgeable on the life of Claude Elwood Shannon, Otsego County’s most famous resident, and are excited to share this birthday celebration with you.
The tour begins at the Otsego County Historical Museum, continues down Main Street, and stops finally in Claude Shannon Park where Mayor John Jenkins will read a proclamation.
