Peeling Away Imperfections: Exploring the World of Chemical Peels First thing I want to know...does it hurt? There are a lot of myths that surround chemical peels. They are painful, they require a lot of downtime, or they are bad for you. On the contrary, many chemical peels have little or no downtime and are safe and effective ways to improve your skin’s health. During most peels, the pain is nonexistent to minimal, with only deep peels causing a temporary stinging sensation. What does a Chemical Peel do for my skin? Let’s take a look at what chemical peels can do. Chemical peels are used to treat wrinkles around the eyes and mouth, skin discoloration, dull skin tone and texture, and mild acne scars. The procedure involves applying a chemical solution to remove the outer layers of skin which stimulates new skin growth. The new skin is usually smoother, less wrinkled, and more even in color. What are the basic types of chemical peels? There are three basic types of chemical peels: superficial, medium and deep. A superficial peel penetrates the outer layer of the skin and gently exfoliates it. This peel improves the appearance of mild skin discoloration. The medium peel penetrates the outer and middle layers of skin to remove damaged skin cells. This treatment is used to improve fine lines and wrinkles, freckles and skin discoloration. Finally, there is a deep peel. This deeply penetrates the middle layer of skin and removes moderate lines, freckles, and shallow scars. Since this is a deep peel, you may experience a temporary stinging sensation. This peel has the most dramatic improvement in skin appearance. Ready to dig a little deeper into peels? Chemical Peels: The Best Exercise for Your Skin By: Jennifer Yount, Licensed Medical Aesthetician There is no disputing the fact that in the world of aesthetics, a chemical peel is one of the best tools we have to correct and improve the skin. I like to refer to chemical peels as “exercise for the skin.” As skin care professionals we understand that the words “chemical peels” can instill great fear in many. This is a topic where getting educated is essential and working with a professional you trust is invaluable. The key to this education process is having a clear idea of what you would like to improve in your skin and having a skilled Aesthetician to help you choose the best peel or “tool” to accomplish this. In explaining what chemical peels do, I like to use the analogy of exercise. Exercise over time strengthens the muscles and tone of the body. Chemical peels do the same for your skin. You see, as we age the skin simply does not make the collagen it used to when we were younger. We have had environmental damage that adds to the laxity, pigment and textural issues in our skin. It becomes necessary to manually stimulate the production of collagen and elastin-things that our skin did naturally when we were younger. One of the best tools we have to do this is a chemical peel. It forces the skin to regenerate and make fresh new skin cells. There are many peels and all of them target different problem areas. Some are good at lightening brown spots while others are great at addressing oil or acne issues. Fine lines and wrinkles are common concerns and many peels help to improve this greatly. Significant results can be seen after just one chemical peel. For most of us, change is a process that is accomplished with a series of peels-usually a minimum of 3 peels spaced about 4-6 weeks apart. The duration and depth of a peel and what is needed for your particular skin type is thoroughly discussed in a consultation. The budget, goals and desired outcome is all considered BEFORE any peel treatment. Chemical peels have come a long way and there is minimal discomfort through the entire process. Schedule a complimentary consultation to see which peel is right for you. Our goal at Hull Dermatology is to personalize the entire chemical peel experience so you can feel confident that you will achieve the best results for your skin. If you have been hesitant in the past, there has never been a better time to create great changes in your skin!

We recently attended an Obagi training seminar in Little Rock as part of our mission to stay apprised of the latest aesthetic advancements. This is a brand that we all love and I couldn’t wait to tell you more about it.

Obagi is the #1 prescription strength, physician-dispensed skin care system. Obagi works at a cellular level to help reduce the signs of aging and accelerate the skin cell turnover through exfoliation.

Patient’s that can benefit from Obagi are anyone with moderate to severe hyperpigmentation or sun spots and people who would like to improve their fine lines and wrinkles. It even helps with rough, uneven skin and skin laxity.

Obagi is a skin care system that has four phases and the best part is it only takes a little over a month to start seeing some results and about 5-6 months to have more radiant, even-toned, and resilient looking skin. We will start you with a free Visia Complexion Analysis and thorough consult to help get you ready for your new skin transformation.

I’m so excited to get to bring back some new and exciting information on the Obagi Nu-Derm System. I personally love this system because it is a game changer. The Nu-Derm System helps transform the skin’s appearance by reducing dark spots, and revealing younger, more youthful skin. The best part of the Nu-Derm System is it can be beneficial to almost all skin types and the results are amazing.
