Canned beer sales were already taking o in recent years, but the shutdown of bars and restaurants early this year led to a surge in retail beer sales at breweries already using cans, while breweries that had been heavily dependent on taproom, bar and restaurant sales increased retail packaging as their only way to sell beer that was sitting in kegs and tanks and needed to go somewhere lest it be poured out.
