SCANIA FUEL ECONOMY

With every Scania comes 100 years of expertise in fuel economy.Stepping into a Scania truck, you are surrounded by more than a century
of experience and expertise in fuel economy. Helping our customers save
money on fuel has always been a proud Scania tradition.
Our contribution to the race for higher mileage per litre relies both on
unique technological solutions and driver-related insights and training
programs. In the end, it all adds up to keeping your costs down and your
profi ts up. So take a moment. Stop for coffee (just coffee), and enjoy the
luxuries of great fuel economy.
SCANIA FUEL ECONOMYSCANIA FUEL ECONOMY
The Scania way to fuel economy.
Summing up our vast research and experience, we have learned that the affectable factors in the fuel effi ciency equation boil down to three fundamental cornerstones: the vehicle, the driver and the service.
Vehicle.
The foundation of Scania’s renowned fuel effi ciency is the modular combustion con-
cept, implemented in every engine throughout the range. Other crucial factors are
vehicle weight, aerodynamics, rolling resistance and powertrain optimisation. Consult
your Scania dealer to decide on what specifi cation makes the most cost-effi cient solu-
tion for you.
Driver.
Even an experienced driver can improve his or her fuel economy by around 10% just
by getting the right training. Scania Driver Training welcomes you to take part of the
latest driving techniques, tips and tricks to keep the desired cruising speed up and
consumption down – always in full safety. Scania Fleet Management enable fast and
easy analysis of fuel consumption data, allowing close monitoring for effective coach-
ing of your drivers.
Service.
When it comes to consumption, it really pays off to keep an eye on axle alignment,
tyre pressures and lubrication among other things. That’s why regular access to pro-
fessional Scania service is essential to keep your Scania truck as fuel-effi cient as it
was on delivery.

”We’ve already cut our fuel bills by 11%. The secret? Well, it’s a combination of clever vehicle confi guration, aerodynamics, driver training and continuous performance analysis.

”Here in northern Italy, there is a saying that goes something like ‘owning a Scania means having a check in your pocket’. I couldn’t agree more. Low consumption and high uptime leads to an outstanding operating economy.

In perfect control.Constructing, building and choosing the right chassis are all part
of a quest to fi nd the perfect balance. Between strength and
weight. Stability and agility. Comfort and driveability.
Balance, without compromise.
The chassis is also a vital part of the Scania active safety
approach. By providing the driver with maximum vehicle control,
handling, brake performance and a sound working environment,
we focus on preventing accidents instead of just minimising
their effects.

SCANIA CHASSIS, BRAKES AND SUSPENSION
Save weight, save fuel, and gain payload. This is our mission. The solution is premium quality Scania chassis, balanced to perfection and equipped with technology that makes life on the road easier than ever.
Stability and control.
The full range of Scania engines offers massive torque and power. But just as important, or even more important from a safety point of view, are braking and handling. By fully integrating the exhaust brake and retarder with the service brakes, Scania gives the driver a braking system that maximises control and minimises wear. Handling provides fi rst-class driver appeal with intuitive interaction between man and machine. Scania trucks can also be fi tted with ESP (elec-tronic stability program) to increase stability.
Comfort and safety in perfect balance.
Airborne comfort.
Scania air suspension ensures that the driver, the cargo and the truck itself arrive in perfect condi-tion. It gives a smooth and stable ride, together with automatic self-levelling. Air suspension also offers multiple possibilities for load handling. For example, it can give a gentle tilt angle for safe handling of heavy items. In addition, the to-tal weight and individual axle weights can easily be verifi ed at the touch of a button.
Ready for bodybuilding, or a complete truck.
Scania has a long tradition of providing engineering
support to bodybuilders all over the world, including
CAD fi les for maximum fi tting precision. This makes
it easier for the bodybuilder to deliver just the right
vehicle for your specifi c application.
You can also get a complete vehicle, straight
from Scania. This way, you save time and expenses,
just as you are ensured to get top-class bodywork
matching. These vehicles benefi t from complete
parts and service support as well as warranty cover-
age from Scania.

Scania Retarder
The Scania Retarder is a highly effi cient auxil-iary braking system. Completely integrated with the service brakes and exhaust brake, it provides the ideal combination of braking functions, specialised in downhill speed control. Retarder braking can be initiated with a dab on the brake pedal or with the lever on the steering column. The gap between the cruising speed and the downhill speed can be set in small steps using a button on the steering wheel. The retarder can be set to automatically work with the service brakes at all times, reducing service brake appli-cations by up to 75 percent.
When it comes to transmission, Scania offers a multitude of options. 8, 8+1, 12 or 12+2 speed. Range-splitter or range-change. Overdrive, di-rect drive and crawler ratios. Scania gearboxes are developed to give all types of drivers the performance they need. Expect faster, easier shifting, tuned to meet your driving skills.
Scania Opticruise
With Scania Opticruise, drivers enjoy smooth, fuel-effi cient automatic gearchanges thanks to the perfect match between engine and gearbox. If desired, the driver can adjust gearchanges or perform all changes manually with a lever on the steering column. The clutch pedal is there for starting and stopping and to provide the ul-timate in precision manoeuvring.
Powered with precision.
