I am pleased to announce new officers on our board for the fiscal year that began July 1, 2018. We are fortunate to have dedicated, talented leaders in our community serving on our Board of Directors. As we move forward with implementing our 2021 Strategic Plan, approved by the board in June, the expertise of our officers will help us navigate the rapidly changing media landscape.
David Steward II, founder of Lion Forge, LLC, serves as chair. Mark C. Lindgren, senior vice president of corporate communications and chief human resources officer for Ameren, is vice chair. Cynthia Brinkley, president and chief operating officer, Centene Corporation, is the secretary. Kathy Barney, senior vice president group finance officer, Wells Fargo Advisors, LLC, remains treasurer.
While the media landscape continues to change, our mission and commitment to the region remain constant. The Nine Network of Public Media listens to our community members to determine the key issues and interests, offers content informed by these priorities, as well as meaningful shared experiences.
The 2021 Strategic Plan is designed to provide direction for the next three years, position Nine for the future, and leave flexibility to respond to a dynamic landscape. The plan calls for focusing on national content with local relevance and local content produced by Nine. We will build capacity to create original digital content to meet audiences where they are. To sustain our work, we will reach out to supporters based on their inter-ests and interactions with Nine. Rather than making decisions based on precedence or instinct, we will foster a culture that derives, sources, and uses data in decision making. These are just some of the strategic shifts that will be necessary to deliver on our mission.
In September, we will come together to cel-ebrate the success of our $50 million Igniting the Spirit of Possibility campaign. Thanks to the generous support of our community, we exceeded our goal! The 2018 Pioneer Spirit Award Celebration will be a fitting end to a campaign that helped us improve our viewer services, develop our facilities for community engagement, and achieve long-term stability. Kim Olson will be awarded the 2018 Pioneer Spirit Award. Kim Olson epitomizes our found-ers’ strong belief in the power of educational television.
Kim has been an active board member since 2010 and was instrumental in the success of the Igniting the Spirit of Possibility campaign, serving as cochair. Her philanthropy has sup- ported the local broadcast of the award-winning news documentary series, Frontline, and other Nine initiatives. She and her husband, Bruce, are members of Nine’s Visionary Leadership Circle.
There are outstanding programs in our Sep-tember and October lineup, including our latest local documentary, Rivertowns (see page 12), which will premiere outdoors in the Public Media Commons on September 12. I hope to see you there.
Yours truly,
Open to the public: The public is invited to meetings of the Nine Network board of directors. For infor-mation about Nine's public meetings, call Cathy Peterson at (314) 512-9017.

Dear Friends,
The maker movement is changing the way America eats. As we in-creasingly want to know where our food comes from and who made it, entrepreneurs are rolling up their sleeves and becoming bread bakers, cheese makers, distillers and brewers.Catherine Neville, long-time Nine Network collaborator and Emmy©-winning television host of Feast TV, captures the zeitgeist with taste-MAKERS, premiering October 15 at 8:30 p.m. on Nine PBS.Nine Network is proud to act as presenting station of tasteMAKERS, which is distributed around the country through American Public Television (APT). Information on premiere screening event at nineNet.org/events.
tasteMAKERS' first 13-episode season takes viewers from a shell- fish operation in the icy waters off the coast of Washington to a sheep- milk dairy in the rolling hills of Mis-souri to a tofu factory in the heart of Chicago to a snail farm on the North Fork of Long Island.
Each episode follows a documentary- style story arc, taking viewers inside the world of the maker, exploring the creative process as well as the maker's connections within the cu-linary community, and finally landing in the kitchen to cook up something delicious.
“I am especially excited about the opportunity to produce a nationally televised culinary show out of St. Louis,” Neville says. “Feast TV has been able to draw attention to so many of our city and our state’s culinary hotspots, it’s amazing to be able to do the same for avant-garde food enthusiasts across the country, and I’m grateful to the Nine Network and APT for that opportunity.”
Nine Network President and CEO Jack Galmiche thought Neville would be the perfect host for a na-tionally distributed program given the wide appeal of both the highly rated Feast TV and regularly sold-out Taste & See events hosted by Neville and the Nine Network in the Public Media Commons. When she developed the concept for taste-MAKERS, Galmiche recognized the potential for a series focused on the maker movement.

Neville is focusing her lens on the artisans who are defining the flavor of American food, offering viewers a unique look at the burgeoning culinary maker movement. This series is a journey into the heart of America, where makers who are focused on flavor create products that reflect the character of their environment as well as their communities.
“Seeking stories over the last 20 years has led me to discover and appreciate the risks these makers take and the determination required to follow their passion,” says Neville. “I've seen first- hand the positive impact experienced by those who work each day to create something that is unique and personal and, in tasteMAKERS, I am excited to share their stories.”
tasteMAKERS builds on Neville’s work at the local and regional level. Her nearly two decades in culinary journalism informs her trek through the current state of food. “I am inspired by the people I cover and strive to develop content that matches their passion,” she says.
“Their work is the backbone of the culinary industry. With tasteMAK-ERS, I'll showcase their craft and introduce you to the people whose work reflects the authenticity and diversity of American food and drink.”
