Welcome to our Satellite Events Team of Host Sites for 2015! We are pleased to report that this year we will host two live broadcasts, August 14th & 15th in 2015—one on Friday night from 7:00 PM til 9:00 PM ETZ, done in Spanish and the second on Saturday from 10:00 AM til 3:30 PM. When we envisioned this capacity to extend the reach of the School of Congregational Development four years ago there were just a few sites, but the impact was tremendous. What is unique about what we do is the ability to present and interact through technology with all of our sites. Therefore it is not just one way communication, our participants interact with the presenters and one another to boost the learning experience and the sharing of ministry tools, techniques and strategies. As you can see, we have grown—with eighteen sites currently and your local church is now a part of this growth and hopefully will continue well into the future. While Global Ministries has taken the lead on our connections impact with international missions around the globe—we also work to broaden a fuller understanding of what it means to be in missions where we serve.

The Mission and Evangelism Unit recruits, places, and supports missionaries, including young adults, from many lands and cultures in a variety of ministries. The unit also links to the mission volunteer movement; promotes and oversees new mission initiatives; cultivates ties with United Methodist conferences in the United States and with other conferences, churches, and mission partners outside the United States; and relates to a broad range of racial/ethnic, community-based, and youth-oriented ministries. There are two sub-units in Mission and Evangelism - Justice and Relationships, and Missionary Services. The Office of Congregational Development and Racial Ethnic Ministries falls under this umbrella.

The Office of Congregational Development and Racial Ethnic Ministries aims to strengthen disciples of Jesus Christ and churches within the US that seek to more effectively engage with the diversity within their communities, especially with persons who are immigrants, racial ethnic, or living in poverty.

We do that by aligning strategies and resources with local assets, dreams and relationships of leaders and churches, to develop multicultural multiclass churches and communities, which model Christ’s message of crossing boundaries and building meaning relationships with their neighbors.

Saturday—Full Day Live Broadcast

PURPOSE For the fourth year, the School of Congregational Development offsite participation is being made

available through target congregations in our five jurisdictions on Saturday, August 15, 2015. This Satellite Event is made possible by the creative partnership with Global Ministries through the Office of Congregational Development. The Office of Congregational Development aims to strengthen

disciples of Jesus Christ and churches within the US that seek to more effectively engage with the diversity within their communities, especially with persons who are immigrants, racial ethnic, or living in

poverty. We do that by aligning strategies and resources with local assets, and relationships of leaders and churches, to develop multicultural, multiclass churches and communities which model Christ’s message of crossing boundaries and building meaningful relationships with their neighbors. Those attending the Saturday event in one of the congregations will be able to participate in the live, interactive streaming of our two outstanding presenters: Rev. John Edgar & Dr. B. Kevin Smalls. An added bonus will be the tape-delayed presentation of one of the main plenaries from the on-site SCD 2015. Our continued goal is to connect the on-site school to the local church setting and region. Our theme this year is “CrossXRoads” and these two leaders will share years of ministry practice, strategy planning for innovative teams, and mobilizing ministry teams to reach the real community where we serve and much more. Just a few words about our presenters: Dr. B. Kevin Smalls--Since being at Queen’s Chapel he has been active in leading the congregation to innovative worship experiences. He has led the congregation to occupy its current building in which a $5.2 million renovation was completed in September of 2011. Reverend Smalls led seven young adults to create what is known as the Young Adult Christian Café of the Washington, DC area. This group was created to meet the needs of the young adult community and challenge the church to be more aware of the young adult populations in and out of the church. The group led Leadership Days workshops and has traveled to Bermuda to teach the Café model there.

Rev. John Edgar

Dr. B. Kevin Smalls
