Scene painting is messy: you WILL get paint on your clothes. Please wear (or bring) appropriate clothes to class every day. Notbeing “dressed to paint” is not an appropriate excuse for missing or not participating in class.

Crew: Each student is required to work on the painting crew for the productions this semester. The work on each production will vary inscope, assignment, and schedule. It is essential that you stay diligent and informed of scheduling in order to fulfill thisrequirement. You will not complete your hours in a single production. Do not procrastinate.

The total crew requirement will be 16 hours. This will be 25% of your grade.

Grading:A letter grade will be assigned to each project. These parameters will include:•Preparation.•Project execution as directed.•Use of color•Neatness/Accuracy•Completion•Research (when applicable)Grading (continued):•Professionalism: Clean your brushes! Clean the Paint Room after you use it!•Deadlines. Any project submitted late will have 10% subtracted from the final project grade for each day the project is late. After5 days, late projects will not be accepted.

Turning in Assignments:Please take a photograph of each of your projects and submit the photo to the webcourse for the class. I will return grades in thewebcourse as well. The photograph is due 24 hours after the assignment due date.

Preparation for future assignments:In addition to finishing the currently due assignment, you are also responsible for preparing a new flat for the next assignment – forexample, the day that project #2 is due, you should have finished project #2 AND have covered a new flat and sized (or basepainted) it for project #3.

Attendance:You must attend class in order to learn this material. The “studio” time in class is just as important as the lectures anddemonstrations. You are allowed two absences, after which each absence will result in a deduction of 5% from your final coursegrade. PLEASE SEE IMPORTANT NOTICE REGARDING ATTENDANCE AND FINANCIAL AID AT THE BOTTOM OF THISSYLLABUS.

It will not be possible to finish all assignments during regular class hours. A good rule of thumb for any university-level course istwo hours study for every hour in class. This class meets for four hours each week. You may NOT use crew hours to complete yourprojects.

Do not compromise production work in the shop. Clean up your mess. Put things away. Keep your projects out of harm's way. Keep your Technical Director(s) informed if you are using the shop. Get out of their way if they need you to.

A clean paint room will ensure the safety and success of your projects. Contribute to your own success by keeping it clean!
