As the Eucharist unites us as one Body in Christ, may we faithfully live and share the Gospel.

Vocation Chalice! Starting on March 10th, with the help of the Serra Club of the Saint Charles Deanery our parish will participate in this pro-gram to help cultivate an increased awareness of God’s plan for our lives and help cultivate a positive environment to foster future vocations within the Archdiocese of St. Louis. Each week, parishioners that have chosen to participate, will receive the chalice, which is mounted in a glass and wooden frame box, and the binder of daily vocation prayers. The family will take the chalice, as a symbol of the priesthood, to their home and display it in a prominent place for all to see throughout the week. Each day for seven days the family will gather to-gether to pray for vocations guided by the use of the prayer binder. During this time parents can explain and prompt young children and teenagers to consider how God is calling them into a deeper relationship with Him. We trust through this pro-gram God will grant many blessings to our parish families. It is a great opportunity to pray together for such an important issue. We encourage ALL families to sign up to participate in this program.

We regularly hear about the importance of prayer, but many of us were never really taught how to pray. This Lent, Fr. Dotson will be offering a four-part School of Prayer to help parishioners grow in their experience of prayer. Whether prayer is already a regular part of your life or you are a beginner, this School of Prayer will be an opportunity to grow in your relationship with God through prayer. All meetings will be in both English and Spanish. The meetings will be at 6:30pm in the Cafeteria on March 14, 21, 28, and April 4. The School of Prayer is complete-ly free, but it will be helpful if you RSVP to Fr. Dotson so we know how many people to expect.

This Wednesday is Ash Wednesday and the beginning of the season of Lent. This holy season calls us to renewed focus as we grow in love of God and love of our neighbor. People often associate Lent with fasting or “giving something up,” often some form of food. Fasting is an important spiritual discipline, but we should undertake it with the right mindset. We don’t fast just for the sake of fasting. When we fast, we recognize that the things of this world, as good as they are, can never fully satisfy us. But sometimes, we pursue them as though they were our ultimate purpose in life. We abstain from the goods of this world to remember that only God, the supreme good, can fully satisfy us, and so He should be our sole purpose. Lent should also be a time of prayer. We invite all parishioners to join us for Mass on Ash Wednesday, March 6th. Masses will be at 6:30am, 8:00am, and 6:30pm (bilingual). Please join us also for Stations of the Cross every Friday in Lent at 7pm. And there is still time to sign up for the School of Prayer, which be-gins March 14. These are great opportunities to grow in our relationship with God during this holy season.

March 3, 2019 –Gospel Background

Your Loving Sacrifices Make All The Difference

March 3, 2019 8th Sunday in Ordinary Time

In today’s Gospel, Jesus uses images in

speaking to his disciples: “Can a blind man act as guide to a blind man?”...Why look at the speck in your brothers eye when

you miss the plank in your own?...A good tree does not produce decayed fruit…”

It is true that donations come to the Society because a

good person produces goodness from the good in their heart.

WE THANK EACH OF YOU for the great love you show to our Borromeo Family carry-ing on the work of Jesus and to those in need-by the gener-

osity you display when you share your treasure, and all God’s gifts to you, given for others.

The third and final section of Luke’s Sermon on the Plain be-gins: And he told them a parable. There are actually four para-bles, three of which we read today. They are all about how to be a good disciple. The blind cannot lead the blind. And a disciple cannot be a good disciple unless he or she has learned from the teacher. Everyone who is fully trained is like the teacher who knows how to cure the blind. Before you can be a good disciple and teach others you must take care of yourself. Do not try to take a speck out of your brother’s eye until you have taken the board out of your own. Finally, only when you have purified yourself can you produce the good works that the teacher requires. Dis-cipleship asks us to produce good deeds. But to produce them requires the integrity and purity of heart found in the teacher. When people see your good deeds they will know that this is because you have a good heart. The final parable, which we do not read today, is about building on the solid foundation of rock and not on sand. This is the only way to face the difficulties a disciple will encounter and sur-vive.
