ON THE MATThe third-ranked University of Iowa wrestling team hosts Maryland on Friday at 7 p.m. (CT) at Carver-Hawkeye Arena. Tickets are $12 for adults, $8 for youth 18-years-old and younger, and free for UI students and kids fi ve-years-old and younger.

IOWA VS. MARYLANDIowa and Maryland are mee ng for the sixth me in series history. The Hawkeyes have won each of the previous fi ve mee ngs, including the Terps only other visit to Iowa City, a 36-9 win on Nov. 20, 2015. The Terps hosted the Hawkeyes in the series fi rst mee ng in 1973. Iowa won that dual, 25-6. Iowa won 33-3 at Maryland in the fi rst mee ng as Big Ten opponents in 2015. The Hawkeyes won 34-6 on a neutral mat in 2009.

HAWKEYES AND CARVER-HAWKEYE ARENAThe Hawkeyes are 253-25 all- me at Carver-Hawkeye Arena since moving from the UI Field House in 1983. Iowa is 5-0 at home this season. The Hawkeyes have recorded 20 un-defeated seasons in Carver-Hawkeye Arena, the most recent in 2012-13 (9-0).

UNDEFEATED IN THE BIG TENIowa is 6-0 in conference duals, with three duals remaining on the Big Ten schedule, one on the road and two at home. The Hawkeyes have seven undefeated conference seasons since 2006-07, head coach Tom Brands’ fi rst year. Iowa’s last undefeated conference sea-son was 2015-16.

MARINELLI REMAINS UNBEATENSophomore Alex Marinelli is 14-0 all- me in Big Ten duals. He was 8-0 as a redshirt fresh-man in 2017-18, and is 6-0 this season. He is 16-0 overall and riding a career-long 16 match winning streak. He has a team-high 56 points scored in dual matches. He has scored 29 team points out of a possible 36 in six Big Ten duals. Marinelli’s winning streak is Iowa’s longest since Michael Kemerer won 22 straight to open the 2017-18 season.

WILCKE WITH THE BREAKTHROUGH “W”Cash Wilcke climbed three spots in the na onal polls following his 5-2 win over Nebraska’s Tay-lor Venz on Feb. 3. It was Wilcke’s fi rst win in 11 tries against a top-fi ve opponent. Wilcke is ranked No. 10 at 184 pounds with a record of 14-3. His three losses have been by a combined fi ve points.

NEXT MAN INSixteen Hawkeyes have at least one dual win, and 21 Hawkeyes have appeared in at least one dual this season. Alex Marinelli (165) and Cash Wilcke (184) are the only preseason projected starters to start every dual this season. Iowa opened the season with three projected starters on the bench, including redshirt freshman Jacob War-ner (197), and All-Americans Michael Kemerer (174) and Sam Stoll (285). In the absence of projected starters, Carter Happel, Myles Wilson, Connor Corbin, Mitch Bowman, Aaron Costello, Paul Glynn, and Keegan Shaw have picked up wins for Iowa. Shaw is the fi h Hawkeye (including Keme-rer) to see his name on top of the depth chart at 174. Iowa has used four wrestlers at 197, though Warner has been the staple since January and is 5-0 in Big Ten duals. Costello and Corbin have picked up wins at heavyweight. Stoll has started the last four duals.

HOME SWEET HOMESpencer Lee, Alex Marinelli, and Jacob Warner are undefeated in their careers at Carver-Hawk-eye Arena. Marinelli is 10-0 all- me at Carver. Lee owns a record of 9-0. Warner is undefeated in two home matches. In Lee’s nine home wins, he has two pins, four technical falls, and one major decision. Four of the wins are against top 10 opponents. Among Marinelli’s 10 wins, he has three pins, three technical falls, and one major decision. He is 5-0 this year at home with bonus pints in each match.
