Pope Francis’ Prayer at Fatima, May 12, 2017

Hail Queen, Blessed Virgin of Fatima, Lady of the Immaculate Heart, refuge and path that leads to God! Pilgrim of the Light that radiates from your hands, I give thanks to God the Father who, at all times and in all places, acts within human history; pilgrim of the peace that you announce in this place, I praise Christ, our peace, and I pray for harmony among all peoples in this world; pilgrim of the hope that the Spirit encourages, I want to be a prophet and messenger to wash the feet of all, at the same table that unites us.

Assembly:

Hail O clement, hail O loving! Hail Queen of the Rosary of Fatima. Hail O clement, O loving, O sweet Virgin Mary.

Pope Francis:

Hail Mother of Mercy, lady dressed in white! In this place where, 100 years ago, you showed us all the plans of mercy of our God, I look at your garment of light and, as a bishop dressed in white, I remember all those who, dressed in their white baptismal robes, want to live in God and pray the mysteries of Christ to achieve peace.

Assembly:

Hail O clement, hail O loving! Hail Queen of the Rosary of Fatima. Hail O clement, O loving, O sweet Virgin Mary.

Pope Francis:

Hail, our life and sweetness, Hail, our hope, O Pilgrim Virgin, O universal Queen! From the depths of your being, in your Immaculate Heart, you see the joys of human beings when they journey toward the heavenly homeland. From the depths of your being, in your Immaculate Heart, you see the sorrow of the human family that mourns and weeps in this valley of tears. From the depths of your being, in your Immaculate Heart, adorn us with the radiance of all the jewels in your crown and make us pilgrims as you were a pilgrim. With your virginal smile, strengthen the joy of Christ’s church. With your sweet gaze, strengthen the hope of God’s children. With your prayerful hands that you raise to the Lord, unite us all into one human family.

Assembly:

Hail O clement, hail O loving! Hail Queen of the Rosary of Fatima. Hail O clement, O loving, O sweet Virgin Mary.

Pope Francis:

O clement, O loving, O sweet Virgin Mary, Queen of the Rosary of Fatima! Help us follow the example of Blessed Francisco and Blessed Jacinta, and all those who give themselves for the Gospel message. Thus, we will travel all the roads, we will be pilgrims on all paths, we will tear down all walls and overcome all boundaries, going to all peripheries, there revealing God’s justice and peace. We will be, in the joy of the Gospel, a church dressed in white, in whitened robes washed in the blood of the Lamb still pouring out in all the wars that destroy the world in which we live. And thus, we will be like you, the image of the luminous pillar that lights the paths of the world, showing to all that God exists, that God is here, that God dwells in the midst of the poor yesterday, today and for all eternity.

Assembly:

Hail O clement, hail O loving! Hail Queen of the Rosary of Fatima. Hail O clement, O loving, O sweet Virgin Mary.

Pope Francis:

Hail, Mother of the Lord, Virgin Mary, Queen of the Rosary of Fatima! Blessed among all women, you are the image of the church dressed in the Easter light, you are the honor of our people, you are the triumph over the mark of evil. Prophecy of the Father’s merciful love, teacher of the son’s Good News, sign of the Holy Spirit’s burning fire, teach us, in this valley of joys and sorrows, the eternal truths that the Father revealed to the little ones. Show us the strength of your protective mantle. In your immaculate heart, be the refuge of sinners and the path that leads to God. United with my brothers and sisters in faith, hope and love, I give myself to you. United with my brothers and sisters, I consecrate myself to God, O Virgin of the Rosary of Fatima. And finally, wrapped in the light that comes from your hands, I will give glory to the Lord for ever and ever. Amen.

Assembly:

Hail O clement, hail O loving! Hail Queen of the Rosary of Fatima. Hail O clement, O loving, O sweet Virgin Mary.”

BEATIFICATION OF FR. SOLANUS CASEY Venerable Solanus Casey, an American-born Capuchin priest who died in 1957, will be beatified at a Nov. 18 Mass in Detroit. Who was Fr. Solanus Casey? Known for his great faith, attention to the sick, and ability as a spiritual counselor, he will be the sec-ond American-born male to be beatified. Born Bernard Casey on Nov. 25, 1870, he was the sixth child of 16 born to Irish immigrants in Wisconsin. Re-evaluating his life after witnessing a drunken sailor brutally stab a woman to death, he decided to act on a call he felt to enter the priesthood. In 1898, he joined the Capuchin Franciscans in Detroit and after struggling through his studies, in 1904 was ordained a “sacerdos simplex” – a priest who can say Mass, but not publicly preach or hear confessions. He was very close to the sick and was highly sought-after throughout his life, in part because of the many physical healings attributed to his blessings and inter-cession. He was also a co-founder of Detroit's Capuchin Soup Kitchen in 1929. For 21 years he was porter at St. Bonaventure Monas-tery in Detroit. A miracle attributed to Venerable Casey's intercession was recognized by Pope Francis at a May 4 meeting with Cardinal Angelo Amato, prefect of the Congrega-tion for the Causes of Saints. “The beatification of Father Solanus will be a tremen-dous blessing for the whole community of southeast Michigan, an opportunity for all of us to experience the love of Jesus Christ.” Archbishop Allen Vigneron of De-troit stated. Please join the Parish of Holy Cross/St. John the Baptist on a bus trip to Detroit, Michigan to cele-brate the Beatification Ceremony on:

THOUGHTS FROM ST. FAUSTINA O merciful God, You do not despise us, but lavish Your graces on us continuously. You make us fit to enter Your kingdom, and in Your goodness You grant that human beings may fill the places vacated by the ungrateful angels. O God of great mercy, who turned Your sacred gaze away from the rebellious angels and turned it upon contrite man, praise and glory be to Your unfathomable mercy, O God who do not despise the lowly heart. Today, my soul is preparing for Holy Communion as for a wedding feast, wherein all the participants are resplendent with unspeakable beauty. And I, too, have been invited to this banquet, but I do not see that beauty within myself, only an abyss of misery. And, although I do not feel worthy of sitting down to table, I will however slip under the table, at the feet of Jesus, and will beg for the crumbs that fall from the table. Knowing Your mercy, I therefore approach You, Jesus, for sooner will I run out of misery than will the compassion of Your Heart ex-haust itself. That is why during this day I will keep arousing trust in The Divine Mercy.

HOLY INNOCENTS BOOKSHELF

Luther’s True Face by Fr. Jean-Michel Gleize, SSPX

October 31, 2017 marked the 500th year anniversary of the famous episode (and birth of the protestant revolution), when Luther nailed his 95 theses to the door of the Church of Wittenberg. Naturally, the revolutionaries have every reason to cele-brate. But what is utterly shocking is that Catholics have joined their celebration. Pope Francis partici-pated in the 500th anniversary of this revolution. This "is quite simply a scandal" (p.12). And why so? Why is this man’s actions simply unacceptable?

‘The much dwelt on cliché of Luther as “an obscure monk who rose from his cell”, one day in 1517 to overturn Christianity is the creation of superficial (19th century) and self-serving (protestant revolu-tion) literature, and couldn’t be farther from the truth’ (p.37). If so, what is the truth?

Luther’s True Face provides an in-depth look at the “Father of Protestantism.” More than just a theo-logical analysis, Fr. Gleize’s study offers crucial his-torical details about Luther’s life, the times in which he lived, and the state of the Catholic Church in the early 16th century.

Also included in this first English edition of Luther’s True Face is an introduction by Bishop Bernard Tissi-er de Mallerais, as well as several appendices, and a copy of Pope Pius XI’s landmark encyclical Mortalium Animos (on religious unity).

While Fr. Gleize approaches his subject matter through a Thomistic lens and delves deeply into Lu-ther’s doctrine, this volume is accessible to all Catholics who wish to learn about the origins of Protestantism and come away with a deeper under-standing of what continues to divide Catholics and Protestants to this very day.

LEGION OF MARY

Weekly Meeting of the Legion of Mary will be in the Parish Hall at 7:00pm every Monday,

following the 6:00pm Latin Mass

Often children who have died before birth have no grave or headstone, and sometimes not even a name. At The Church of The Holy Innocents, we invite you to name your child(ren) and to have the opportunity to have your baby's name inscribed in our "BOOK OF LIFE". Here, a candle is always lit in their memory. All day long people stop to pray. On the first Monday of every month, our 12:15pm Mass is celebrated in honor of these children and for the comfort of their families. We pray that you will find peace in knowing that your child(ren) will be remembered at the Shrine and honored by all who pray here.

We will inscribe the names of babies who have died before and at birth in our Book of Life, and as always, we invite

you to visit the Shrine if you are in New York City.
