Looking Ahead I just got back from the Northwest Texas Annual Conference (NWTX) of the Methodist Church, which was held in Lubbock, TX, this year. As you probably know, FUMC Canyon is a part of the NWTX Conference, which is made up of all of the churches in the Texas Panhandle all the way down to Midland, Abilene and Childress. I am excited and extremely blessed that I have been reappointed to FUMC Canyon for another year. It’s hard to believe we are beginning our seventh year in ministry together here. Thank you for the blessing you have been to my family. We look forward to what God has in store for us together in the year to come. One of the big parts of what the Conference voted on this year was a strategic plan that will guide our work over the next several years. There are five main points of this plan. 1. Equip pastoral leaders. 2. Launch new churches and new worship communities. 3. Inspire revitalization and innovation. 4. Expand Hispanic/Latino ministries 5. Grow the pipeline for future leaders FUMC Canyon is a big part of this strategic plan. We are already actively addressing each of these points as a church. I have been working with new pastors and in the equipping phase. As you know we will be starting our new Traditional service on August 27 th and relaunching our Modern service that Sunday as well in the Fellowship Hall. Further, we have at least six people from our church that are enrolled in seminary for the fall semester! Two of these, Lupe Acevedo and Ivan Ramirez, will help us as a conference grow our Hispanic ministries. And we are partnering with the Wesley Foundation at WT to grow the pipeline for future leaders through the Wesley Academy. I can’t tell you how exciting it is to be a part of such a vibrant church that is intentionally living it’s calling to glorify God in worship, grow in likeness of Jesus and give our lives in love of Jesus. Keep praying for the church as we seek to expand our ministries to make room for new people. I look forward to seeing you on Sunday! God Bless! Rick Enns Sr. Pastor [email protected] P.S. Looking Ahead

I just got back from the Northwest Texas Annual Conference (NWTX) of

the Methodist Church, which was held in Lubbock, TX, this year. As you

probably know, FUMC Canyon is a part of the NWTX Conference, which

is made up of all of the churches in the Texas Panhandle all the way

down to Midland, Abilene and Childress.

It is at Annual Conference each year that ministers are given their official

appointment for the coming year. I am excited and extremely blessed that

I have been reappointed to FUMC Canyon for another year. It’s hard to

believe we are beginning our seventh year in ministry together here.

Thank you for the blessing you have been to my family. We look forward

to what God has in store for us together in the year to come.

One of the big parts of what the Conference voted on this year was a

strategic plan that will guide our work over the next several years. There

are five main points of this plan.

1. Equip pastoral leaders.

2. Launch new churches and new worship communities.

3. Inspire revitalization and innovation.

4. Expand Hispanic/Latino ministries

5. Grow the pipeline for future leaders

FUMC Canyon is a big part of this strategic plan. We are already actively

addressing each of these points as a church. I have been working with

new pastors and in the equipping phase. As you know we will be starting

our new Traditional service on August 27th and relaunching our Modern

service that Sunday as well in the Fellowship Hall. Further, we have at

least six people from our church that are enrolled in seminary for the fall

semester! Two of these, Lupe Acevedo and Ivan Ramirez, will help us as

a conference grow our Hispanic ministries. And we are partnering with the

Wesley Foundation at WT to grow the pipeline for future leaders through

the Wesley Academy.

I can’t tell you how exciting it is to be a part of such a vibrant church that

is intentionally living it’s calling to glorify God in worship, grow in likeness

of Jesus and give our lives in love of Jesus.

Keep praying for the church as we seek to expand our ministries to make

room for new people.

I look forward to seeing you on Sunday!

God Bless!

Hello Church Family! Summer is well on its way

and VBS has come and gone. We had a great

week! Our building was the campsite for 112 kids

and 30 leaders. The kids were energetic and the

leaders were AWESOME! I want to thank you for

your prayers, donations, and help. Programs like

VBS cannot happen without YOU!

The VBS kids learned this past week that Jesus is

the Light. They experienced feet washing and

physically giving their sins to God and pinning them

on a cross. Along with these heartfelt Jesus

moments, we played mosquito tag and ate s’mores.

We have a few weeks of down time! ENJOY!

Youth News—Charlie Keys, Youth Minister—FUMC Canyon

Thank You Notes

To our Church family,

During times of loss of a family member, it is very

hard, as many of you know. We want to thank each

of you for the prayers, the food, the cards, your

presence at Mom’s funeral, and the countless other

things done by you for us during this time. We

celebrate Nila’s life and we are so blessed she was

a part of our lives. We know she blessed many of

you, too. She was a very special lady! She will be

missed by her family and friends. We are sure of

that! You all were truly “The Church” to us during

this difficult time. Thank you from the bottom of our

hearts!

The Gerry Nickell family

We want you to know how loved you have made us feel with your prayers, hugs, calls, flowers, cards, visits and food regarding the loss of our sweet and special granddaughter Kylie Hiner. Thank you so much for your love and kindness,

Ron & Deloris Hiner

FUMC Family, Thank you for your kindness and hospitality as we came home to celebrate the life of Loveta. The time she spent on staff there was a blessing to her. Blessings,

LeeAnn Love

SOS Mission Trip Don’t let anyone think less of you because you are

young. Be an example to all believers in what you say,

in the way you live, in your love, your faith, and your

purity. 1 Timothy 4:12

Hello Church Family,

Recently, I had the privilege of witnessing this scripture

being fulfilled on our youth mission trip to Service Over

Self in Memphis, TN. It was amazing to watch your

students serve not only the Binghampton community,

but each other as well! I witnessed junior high students

showing compassion to those dealing with poverty, I

saw high school students using their influence to grow

others in their faith. I sat and listened as student after

student boldly testified about how God had changed

them while in Memphis! FUMC you should be very

proud of your students, I know I am!!!

Matter of Balance

Matter of Balance is an evidence based program that reduces the fear of falling and helps seniors increase activity levels. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the following facts have been reported: One in 3 adults age 65 and older falls each year. The chances of falling and of being seriously injured in fall increase

with age.

Matter of Balance is sponsored by the Area Agency on Aging. Each class is approximately 1 1/2 hours in length for an 8 week period. There is no cost for the class. The class will be offered in September. If you would like more information you can contact

Becky Harp at 806-341-5758.

VBS—2017

Since it is almost July, that

means that Operation

Christmas Child Collection

Week is only 5 months

away. The process has

started in covering shoe

boxes and I know that some of you have started

to collect the “treasures” that will go into the box

or boxes that you will put together for under privi-

leged children in the third world countries as here

in the U.S.

There will changes in the list of items that will go

into the box: no more candy or sweets of any

kind, no more toothpaste and the amount of

money to help with the shipping has been in-

creased to $9.

Mark your calendars—the week before Thanks-

giving there will be a packing party here at the

church. If you are not able to pack a box or two

but would enjoy buying items such as crayon,

coloring books, hair clips, school supplies, etc. we

would love for you to begin collecting those items

and donate them.

Please call Janice Cranmer if you have any ques-

tions or have shoeboxes or ‘treasures’ to donate
