ABOUT THE PLAY

Schism is an interactive encounter in a real hotel room between a single participant and two performers. It has been wrien specifi-cally to engage students in a way that is not possible in the class-room, focusing the participant’s aention on issues regarding rela-tionships and birth control and, more importantly encourages par-ticipants to engage with the emotions surrounding these issues based upon their own personal feelings.

Schism does not force students to engage in role play which, stud-ies suggest, actually distances students from the subject under discussion by drawing aention to the constructed artifice of the created situation (Ellis, 2011). Schism gets around this problem by encouraging stu-dents to engage with the performance in the same way that they would in reality, generating genuine responses from participants based upon their own feelings and experiences.

We recognise the fact that there is a degree of risk from an institu-tional point of view in encouraging students to engage with novel forms of performance such as this and we are more than happy to discuss this further with interested parties.

Pilot performances, for Teachers, Governors and Heads can be ar-ranged at a reduced fee depending on time, travel and room hire expenses.

Schism has been wrien specifically to achieve a considerable number of the aims specified within the PSHE curriculum. It provides a means for students to engage in a realistic scenario that places the responsibility upon students to respond in an honest and genuine way and through this, reflect upon the ideas contained within the PSHE syllabus and their wider application in everyday life. Highlighted below are the aims of the curricu-lum with which Schism engages. lum with which Schism engages.

Due to the nature of this performance it is more efficient to accom-modate larger groups by extending over several days as opposed to increasing the volume of students per day.

Therefore the rates are as follows: 1st day: £650.00 / 30 students. Subsequent days: £450.00 / 30 students.

Therefore a week-long booking would cost £650.00 + 4 x 450.00 = Therefore a week-long booking would cost £650.00 + 4 x 450.00 = £2450.00 and would engage with around 150 students at a cost of £16.33 per student.
