Early Steps to School Success (ESSS): Why we serve families Pre-birth to 5years

Families are a child’s first and most important teachers. Relationships are central to learning. Language and literacy unfold within a cultural context. Literacy learning emerges from loving interactions and daily

routines. Sharing, hearing and reflecting on stories are important to

nurturing language and literacy.

ESSS Mid-year Results for Arnoldsburg Elementary School

34 children enrolled from pre-birth to age 5

Parents of children from pre-birth to age 5 have reported reading to their children a total of 2,191 times since August 2013

Coordinator has received 44 hours of training since August 2013.

At Arnoldsburg Elementary School, by mid-year 78% of Emergent Readers had moved to the next stage of reading.
