1. Here is a summary of what we did to run our business (including activities carried out to launch the business, if we started a different one this year):

High School Water Company lunched the customized sachet and bottled water by organising an essay competition dubbed; The Writers Point Of View where students wrote on the topic; The importance of clean water in the educational lives of students. This competition was limited to our consumer base (Senior High School Students only). High School Water Company secured sponsorship from media houses like SOMPA FM, YFM, online blogs such as Rising Africa and Today news, again, Companies like Indomie, producers of Indomie noodles, Cracker Cornflakes, Prickles and Dano Milk also gave us products to be given to the winners. After the competition, an awards night was organised for the five winners where their schools were invited to celebrate the occasion with them. The winners were; Nathaniel Ofori, Grace Egyir, Portia Koranteng, Jasmine Yayra and Kinsman Arthur. High School Water Company seized the opportunity to talk about our products and officially lunch it in front of 15 Senior High Schools that honoured our invitation to attend our awards night.

After a successful lunching of the products, the company started promotion of the sachet water in our pilot schools, namely, Ghana National College and Aggery Memorial AME Zion School. The water was sold to the students at a cost of GHC2.00 per bag instead of the intended GHC3.00 per bag. This introduced the students to our water, where they realised that the water tasted nice and was quality just like the others but at an affordable prize and unique branding.

High School Water Company received enormous reception from students where some parents even supported the business with fund. Mrs. Ernestina Mamaga donated GHC 1000 to help the business to be firmly established.

U-Splash, the company we source our water from, fill the sachet with their treated water and by placing order through phone call, the number of bags needed by the school at the particular time is delivered in less than 5 hours. With this, students (directly involved in the running of the business) do not spend so much time on the business but just ensure that schools we operate in have their orders served at a faster rate and to their satisfaction.

2. Here is a description of the different departments we worked in and how often we all rotated roles:

High School Water Company have four main departments, namely; the Public Relations Office, Information Technology department, Financial office and Co-ordinating Office which are headed by Kudor Abigail, Sawulan Isaac, Donkor Karl-Max and Bernard Nyarko respectively.

Public Relations Officers are mandated to speak on behalf of the company to clients, partnering companies such as U-Splash, Heads of Institutions and sometimes represent the company in Start-up pitching competitions.

Information Technology Department is in charge of Handling all technological gadgets in the company since our generation is a global village. The School Enterprise Challenge is not organized in Ghana but with the help of our IT personnel, we are able to participate using the Internet and Computer devices. The IT department is also in charge of using database applications like Microsoft Access and My SQL to manage all company data and information gathered.

Financial Office sees to it that all issues pertaining to the finances of the company are on track such as keeping records of expenditure, budgeting for the company to guide the company in activities to take. The office also is in charge of managing the bank account of the company with supervision from the Lead Teacher.

Co-ordinating department may sound ordinary, but is one of the most vital departments at the hospital. This department ensures correlation of all the departments, thus making sure that companies we work with actually work according to our preferences and orders and deliver products requested on time. The department also sees to it that the actions or inactions of one department does not directly or indirectly negatively affect the operation of other departments in the company.

The IT department sometimes work for the financial department when it comes to keeping of financial records in the database. The IT department sees to it that correct entries are made to prevent future problems. The Co-ordinating department sometimes take over the role of the public Relations office, interacting with clients, workers, partnering company from whom we source our clean water and management of the various institutions where we operate to know their problems, feedbacks and how each department can help in correcting the problem or keeping a work done to maintain the satisfaction of students (clients) in our product. The Public Relations Office, which have people who can really express themselves and know the art of when to say what and why to say what one said represent the financial department in report reading to the business management committee to convince and defend the company on why we took certain tough minor financial decisions on daily routine management of the company.

This coordination and rotating of roles provide check for each department and also helps in easily performing to the expectations of clients and other stakeholders.

Section C: Management& Use of Profits

3. a)Here is an explanation of how we formed our Business Management Committee:

The Business Management Committee is a voluntary position occupied by experienced people who have the capacity to help the company with their ideas from their field of work to help grow the Start-Up. We needed to place a technical man who had vast knowledge in the production of Sachet water and that is why we placed Mr. Peter Asiedu, the production manager of U-Splash Water Company on the Management Board. The Headmistress of Ghana National College, Mrs. Juliana Owusu-Ansah was placed on the Business Management Board to give us ideas and new ways we can approach the students with our product since she has over 25years experience in the teaching field. Mr. Caleb Annobil, who is a young entrepreneur, is on the Board to help analyze issues affecting the business and provide possible solutions to help grow the business. The last on the board is Mr. Kennedy Prempeh, a Physics Tutor at Ghana National College. He is on the Business Management Board to provide fair judgement on issues affecting the business. A Business Management Member must not compulsorily be someone doing something in line with our business but people who can give better ideas to improve upon the business. Members of the board are not paid since it is a voluntary work but are sometimes given incentives.
