It is only as we develop others, that we permanently succeed. - Harvey S. Firestone
ENGLISH/LANGUAGE ARTS Congratulations!!! You have completed the ELA exam. The months of hard work and dedication have paid off. We will be moving into our next unit, which focuses on investigative journalism. We will be
working on a culminating project where we will take on the roles of investigative journalists, exposing injustices in our society.
MATHEMATICS MIT: In April, We will start our Statistics Unit. This unit will
combine 8th grade and algebra material. This will include scatter plots, two way frequency and relative tables, data displays such as measures of center and spread, data distributions, histograms and box plots. All other 8th Grade classes: We will be finishing our geometry unit. This will include Pythagorean theorem and volume of cylinder, cone and sphere.
SCIENCE For the month of April, we will continue preparing for
the upcoming state exam. Students will be conducting experiments that will help develop their scientific inquiry skills.
SOCIAL STUDIES
8th grade Social Studies will be transitioning back into US History content from our ELA testing shutdown. Students will be introduced to and engaged in units on both industrialization and immigration. It is expected for all students to come to class everyday prepared with the necessary materials to learn and participate in class. As we move closer to the end of the school year, the goal in social studies is to prepare students for their global history class in ninth grade. The remainder of the quarter will be challenging, but purposeful. Please remember that coach class meets on Thursdays after school for extra help.

FROM THE COUNSELING DEPARTMENT
Scholars and Parents, It is important that we are putting forth our greatest effort to graduate from 8th grade on time, while earning attractive grades for high school. This includes: • completing and submitting all work on time • making up any missing assignments • studying for tests/quizzes • attending Coach Class with your teachers Let's get to work! If your child is in Promotion in Doubt (PID) status, he/she receives a weekly tracker report showing their current grades and the grades they need to overcome PID status. These reports must be signed by a parent /guardian and returned to the Advisory teacher. Students on PID must also attend Coach Class to revisit the standards they need to learn for the next grade level and to make up any missing work. Keep in regular contact with your child's teachers to be up to date on your child's academic progress. If you have any questions, please contact Ms. Cupid at [email protected] or (917) 502-9455.
IPCS ATHLETICS
