Consult with Social Worker Consider the context of the behaviour relative to the others involved. Consider a students IEP; is there the presence of mental health issues. Are appropriate accommodations provided; are these delivered effectively sufficient that the student may demonstrate their learning. Does student have the ability to control the behaviour; understand the foreseeable consequences; does the continued presence in the school pose a risk to others ( risk assessment due diligence); consider possible history of the behaviours, previous interventions, patterns. Monitor and evaluate if the consequences and strategies are helping or hindering by creating a timeline with SMART goals. Invite students to give an account of their decision-making and the changes in their behaviour given the 4 levels: pre-contemplation, contemplation, building and sustaining capacity.
