Head of School’s News
We’re almost at the end of the School year! As you read this, I expect we’ve just got the Carol Service (Friday
December 7th at 6.00pm) and Prize Day (Saturday December 8th at 10.00am), both in the War Memorial Hall, for
K - 6 students (and family and friends), to look forward to.
Congratulations to the Lower School students and staff on their amazing performance(s) of Baubles, Baubles, Baubles
in Week 7. Thank you for the time and effort that went into this colourful, sparkly, amusing and yet pertinent
Nativity Play. The students, family, friends and staff who came to see this spectacular stage production were
impressed and delighted, leaving the War Memorial Hall full of seasonal cheer. Miss Griffiths and team
continually create magnificent Christmas pageants for us to enjoy! We are so grateful.
This week, Ruby Elliott, George Manka and Willoughby O’Brien, all from Year Three, enjoyed their debut as radio
announcers! They made a ‘festive greetings’ recording currently being broadcast on 2ST across the Southern
Highlands in the lead-up to Christmas. Tune-in between breakfast and morning tea time and you may catch their
cheerful voices on the radio waves. We all hope this gets lots of air time!
Last weekend we started the count-down to ‘farewelling’ our magnificent Year Six 2018 cohort from our School.
The Tudor House Leavers’ Weekend is indeed an important milestone. On Saturday morning, the students played
either cricket or softball against their parents, in glorious weather. After a magnificent Tudor House lunch in the
Dining Room, it was time for tennis, traditionally against the mothers, but not this year (!), we did have a rogue
Dad player….. on the new tennis courts. After late afternoon snacks on the Head of School’s Residence patio, we
enjoyed a Bush Dance with live music by Ross Webb’s Band on Hamilton Lawn, finishing the evening with a
mass Tudor House Choir singing Country music. On Sunday morning at 10.00am, The Reverend Dr Jason
Hobba led the Leavers’ Chapel Service in our School Chapel. He spoke to the students about the journey ahead
using Dr Seuss’ Oh, The Places You’ll Go as an illustration about the likely ‘ups and downs’ in their future life.
He reminded the students about the importance of loving God and respecting others along the way - to ensure
they have strength to deal with what life brings in the future (Isaiah 40: 27 - 31) and Luke 10 (25 - 28). Thank
you to the Choir for leading the singing, and for Mrs Blanchard’s accompaniment and Mrs Richter’s
support. Thank you to Miss Coleman for the wonderful slideshow which brought back so many memories for
the students. We were pleased that Mr Mark Webeck, Old Tudorian (class of 1971), Governor of The King’s
School and Chairman of Tudor House Foundation was in attendance, to present the boys with their Old
Tudorian tie, Year Six book (thank you Mrs Sparke) and certificate. We were delighted that so many family
members, friends and staff came along to the service.
On Tuesday December 4th, the Yr 3 - 6 students went to see the play, Me and My Girl at Frensham. As usual they
enjoyed this annual outing, watching several sisters of Tudor House students performing on the stage.
Whilst the older students were off-site on Tuesday, the Pre-Kindergarten to Year Two children had an end of year
Recognition Assembly. At this ceremony they each received a ‘graduation’ certificate from their 2018 class teacher.
Later, they were delighted to welcome a very special guest to the Lower School playground; a large gentleman
dressed in red and white with a woolly beard and his wife arrived, with much Christmas cheer! Having checked
that Mr and Mrs Claus had parked their sleigh safely, the students enjoyed a chat with our guests and each child
received a gift from the jolly pair! The festivities finished with a wonderful al fresco lunch in Lower School.
On Wednesday the whole School and special VIP guests, Mr and Mrs Manka (George, Yr 3 and Max Yr 6), who
bid and won the auction prize for this privilege at The Foundation Dinner, enjoyed a High Tea Lunch in the Dining
3 | P a g e
Room. Thank you to the
Catering team for the most
magnificent feast of treats
served from exquisite tiered
plates, plates, tea pots, cups
and saucers.
During the afternoon, we all
enjoyed the dress-up parade,
with certificates awarded for the following categories, The Most Original, Most
Amusing, Bits and Pieces, Best Character, Best Group and Play on Words. The
costumes were amazing, making the judges’ job extremely difficult.
Towards the end of the School holiday period, I encourage you to replace, or
mend any items of School uniform which require attention. For all new uniform
requirements please contact, The Braeside Shop at The King's School: Phone 02
9683 8463 and email: [email protected] Please note all orders are sent
to Tudor House weekly unless post is requested. Last trading for The Braeside
Shop for 2018 is December 7th and the shop re-opens on January 14th 2019.
There is a second hand clothing shop on site at Tudor House, open during term
time on Tuesdays from 8.30am to 9.30am and by special appointment, very limited times during the holidays (4868
0000). Please also check shoes are in good repair or replace these ready for next year. You will receive text book
and requisite lists during January - please ensure your son/daughter has everything they need for a great start to
the 2019 School year. You will receive text book and requisite lists during January - please ensure your
son/daughter has everything they need for a great start to the 2019 School year.
This term we farewell Miss Tina Brown (Chaplain), Mr Malcolm Powys (Special Duties Master), Mrs Julie
Blanchard (Choral Music), Mrs Fiona Lydiard (Regional Community Relations) and Miss Stacey Baker (Year 5
Class teacher). We thank them for their significant contribution to our School community and wish them every
happiness and success in the future. I look forward to announcing the 2019 Staff in mid-January, when this has
been finalised. This process is taking longer than anticipated due to several very recent enrolment applications
and therefore additional teachers are required.
At The Tudor House Prize Giving and Speech Day on Saturday December 8th at 10.00am in the War Memorial Hall
we’ll bid ‘Good-bye,’ to the outstanding young men in the Class of Year 6 2018 and reflect on the ‘year that was.’
Please stay in touch with us, Year Six 2018 families.
We wish Mirabelle McLean (Year 1, 2018), one of the first Tudor House girls, every happiness at her new school
as the McLean family relocate to the Queensland warmth, ready for 2019.
Many of our special Tudor House events over the past couple of years have been captured brilliantly for posterity
by AJ Moran’s photography. You may be interested in purchasing photos from AJ’s website: ajmoran.com.au
Please continue to follow what we’re doing by logging onto the Tudor House Facebook page - this is updated
regularly.
Thank you for your tremendous support in 2018.
I look forward to writing to you before the start of the 2019 School year.
Have a safe, happy and holy Christmas.

Boarding News On Saturday 24th, the Tudor House 1st XV played Redlands at RB Darke. They won the toss
and chose to bowl. James Parry-Okeden (Windsor) opened. He smashed his way to a quick
48 in an innings that included two sixes. Angus Lenehan (Harden) just about hit a boundary
each delivery he faced and stayed at the crease until retiring on 50. Will Johnson (Grenfell)
scored 28 runs off ten balls. Hugo Wood (Grenfell) came in at number seven and notched up
eleven runs with two lovely boundaries
We took to the field defending 196 runs. Angus Lenehan
took a lovely wicket with some cracking bowling. Hugo Wood took a great wicket
(caught behind by James Parry-Okeden) with his tricky leg spin. James Parry-
Okeden had an awesome match as keeper and at the crease. Justin Bojanac
(Bowral), Jack Clancy (Berrima) and Hunter Bowman (Harden) all bowled well
too. Tudor House defeated Redlands by 76 runs.
Over on Westfield, Han Chusang (Bangkok) and Tom Jenkinson
(Moss Vale) played in the Open Softball Team. They were playing
Trinity Grammar. Han got two people out on second base, several
people out as pitcher and he belted some outstanding shots with the
bat. Tom got an opponent out whilst fielding at third base and did a
fantastic job as catcher. Tudor House defeated Trinity 21:12.
The Year 5 Red Super 8’s played Newington on Westfield. Marko Markovic (Vaucluse) made
a personal top score of 20 runs. Charlie Morgan (Walcha)
also bowled well. Unfortunately the Reds went down by five runs.
The Year 5 Blue Super 8’s also played against Newington. Tyler Salis (Ruse) ran
an opponent out with some nifty fielding. Cameron Gray (Tirrannaville) took a
nice wicket and bowled well throughout the match. Archie Hallett (Coolah) and
Stirling Heriot (Holbrook) bowled well too and
helped the team win the match by six runs.
Miller Twomey (Exeter) bowled some lovely leg spin and bowled a maiden over
for the Year 4 Super 8 cricket team. He also enjoyed a great innings at the crease and
hit several fours and a six!
After sport, the boarders enjoyed a BBQ lunch and spent the afternoon fishing and
canoeing on Kearney Dam.
On Sunday, we headed out into the paddocks and collected a trailer
load of firewood for the boarders’ fire pit. Some boarders went
fishing again, whilst others headed out exploring around Foxy
Creek and Year 5 Kahiba. We then went out onto Westfield and
cheered on Will Johnson as he completed the cycling sprint to
achieve his Double Blue Bar
5 | P a g e
Archie Hallett helped Jamie Everingham make fresh rissoles and a salad. Archie then cooked us Sunday’s lunch
all by himself on the BBQ – thanks, Archie!
The boarders took out the 2018 Boarders v Day
Students Cricket Ashes Series with a win in the final
match on Friday 30th November. Angus Lenehan took
two wickets and a great catch on the boundary at deep
square leg. Archie Hallett also bowled a super wicket.
Angus, Will Johnson and Jack Binnie excelled at the
crease too, bringing our lead over Fisher House to 69 runs. Everyone had a
great time and the game was played in excellent spirit.
Here And There …
It was lovely to have Old Tudorian and past boarder James Hoare (’13) join us for
Boarders’ Chapel. After leaving Tudor House, James attended Barker College. He
went on to work as a law clerk in Canberra and also worked as an English and History
tutor in Shanghai. James graduated with a Bachelor or Laws (Hons) from ANU in 2015
and he is now Legal Associate to the Honourable Justice Gill at the Family Court of
Australia.
Roo Taylor (’17) got in touch last week with news of
his first year of secondary school. Roo (pictured right with Olympic Skier Matt
Graham) is enjoying boarding at SHORE. He came 17th in Nationals (moguls) and
he has worked hard to achieve some terrific academic results. Roo played a
peasant in the school production of Oliver! – An experience he really enjoyed.
Hugh Squire-Wilson (’17) writes that he has thoroughly enjoyed his first year boarding at King’s. He reports that
Year 7 Camp was outstanding. Hugh continues to thrive in athletics and participated well in the GPS Athletics
Carnival. He says he will never forget the roar of all the schools singing their war cries!
This is the last Boarders’ Newsletter for 2018.
Thank you to all our families for helping make this such a wonderful year. Tim and Amy
Wood, thank you so much for doing an outstanding job as Boarders’ Parents’ Representatives.
You have both gone well-beyond the requirements and left a pair of massive shoes to fill. Your
fortnightly editions of The Boarders’ Periscope have even helped keep me in the know! I am
most grateful for your friendship and wise counsel over the past two years – thank you.
Congratulations all Year 6 Boarders on finishing your time in Medley
House on such a strong note. Each of you have developed into outstanding individuals and
I’m looking forward to hearing about your future accomplishments. A special thank you goes
to the 2018 Captain of Boarding, Hugo Wood. I have thoroughly enjoyed working with Hugo
this year. He should be very proud of the way he has led our boarders.
Finally, I wish all our staff and boarding families a very Merry Christmas and a happy, safe
New Year. I’m looking forward to seeing our boys and girls back in Medley House for an
action-packed 2019!

2018 TUDOR HOUSE TRIATHLON
As we are coming to the end of another jam packed year, the Tudor
House boys and girls demonstrated the amazing Tudor Spirit once
again. On Thursday 29th November, it was the Triathlon.
Students were able to compete as a team or individually. All are
encouraged to participate and pleasingly, the majority of the Upper
School competed. Encouragement, perseverance and determination
were all qualities that the Tudor students demonstrate every day, but
were highlighted on a cold, wet morning.
Students were to swim 8 laps of
War Memorial Pool, ride their
bike around the grounds for
2.5km and then run 2km. There
were 13 teams and 30 individual
competitors.
Some outstanding results from all
students. Finishing is the main
aim and all did this. Well done!
The Musgrove Trophy (Stage 2 Individual winner) was awarded to
Tristan McGorman in Year 3 with a time of 26.13 minutes. The Penman Cup (Stage 3 Individual winner) was
awarded to Phoenix Sparke with a new School record of 19.13minutes, beating the previous record held by
Alister Yaffa of 21.38 minutes.
I was very proud of all who braved the weather and cheered on, participated and tried their best. It is a great
finish to the sporting year for Tudor House.

French class were interested in what animals we see on a daily basis, how spacious our school is, and how long we
stay at primary school because they leave for middle school when they are 10/11. We asked them what music they
like and have responded with our preferences. We will be sending them some Christmas cards with some drawings
and comments in English and French.

Term Four Equestrian Programme Update This term, the Tudor House Equestrian Program has proved to be an
amazing adventure for all involved. Each week fourteen Tudor students
jump off the bus to greet their ponies here at Rosthwaite Farm.
Each of our students are now riding independently, at a walk and trot, over
small jumps, on long trail rides around the farm and even in the large jump
arena.
This Term, we have focused on building
our confidence in the rising trot, steering independently in trot and identifying the
correct rising diagonal. Some riders have now moved onto learning how to canter.
The children are all now able to control their own ponies in a group one behind the
other (causing just a few traffic jams along the way).
We have enjoyed a few games on horseback including ‘the egg and spoon race’
which provided much amusement and laughter. Witnessing each student form a
bond with their ‘favourite pony’, has been a delight.
I must make special mention of Year Five rider,
Charlotte Perry who competed for the very first time,
ever, in the Berry Interschools competition on the 29th and 30th of September. Charlotte
rode Rosthwaite Farm’s ‘Pickles’, competing in two dressage tests and enjoyed the
mounted games. This was very big undertaking and achievement for Charlotte and
her onsite grooms (also known as her parents). We look forward to many more
competitive moments in 2019. Opportunities to compete for Tudor House/Rosthwaite
Farm will be available to any competent equestrian
rider wishing to experience the competition
environment.
A big thank you must go to each and every one of our dedicated students and
parents for their support of our inaugural equestrian offering this past semester.
Well done Miss Griffiths for organising such a worthwhile extra-curricular
programme.
The aim of which is to promote education and sportsmanship to student athletes in
horsemanship and horse management.
The Rosthwaite Farm team would like to take this opportunity to wish our new
friends and families a happy and safe holiday break. We look forward to seeing you
all early in the new year, ready to ride.
Merry Christmas and a happy New Year.
