From the Principal
Welcome back to Term 4. Arguably the busiest term of the year!!
We certainly have a lot to look forward to- swimming for P-2 starts in a couple of weeks, there is a P-2
excursion at the end of the month, the 5/6 Dance program starts soon, the surfing excursion is in November to
name just a few things but check out the diary dates to see the list.
Next Wednesday is the next Prep 2016 Transition session and our numbers are growing steadily. We will be
having 2 new Foundation classes next year. If you have a Prep child and haven’t
enrolled as yet or know of someone who is intending to send their child to Chirnside please let them know that
we really need all the paperwork to be completed and handed in asap. On the other hand if your child is leaving
at the end of the year could you please ensure that you let us know. We are finalising our staffing for 2016 and
we need to have accurate numbers so I would appreciate your support.
Magpies
Unfortunately the magpies are still proving to be a problem for us. Even though I have had a male magpie re-
moved, twice, we are still experiencing issues with their swooping. Magpies are very territorial and apparently
when one male magpie is removed, another male comes in to take their place to look after and protect the babies.
Fortunately the swooping season is nearly over; as soon as the babies are able to leave the nest the male having
done his job goes back to normal and loses his vicious tendencies. So very soon you will be able to put away
those protective umbrellas.

Sharing Lollies On Monday, Sam, Sunny and Sylvia shared some lollies that their mother had given them. Sunny got half as many lollies as Sam got. Sylvia got a third as many lollies as Sam got. Their mother gave them the same number of lollies each day up to (and including) Friday. If Sam got 18 lollies on Wednesday, how many lollies did Sunny get on Thursday? How many lollies did Sylvia get that week?
3-6 Base 3 We say that the number 1202 is a number in base 3 when we write it as 1 x 33 + 2 x 32 + 0 x 3 + 2 x 30. This is equal to 27 + 18 + 2 = 47 in our normal base, base 10. a. What is the value of the base 3 number 21021?
b. What is the sum of these two base 3 numbers in base 3? 2 2 0 2 +2 1 2 1 c. Write the base 10 number 582 in base 3.

SELAMAT DATANG DID YOU KNOW? The traditional dances of Java and Bali are based on Hindu stories, such as the Ramayana and the Mahabharata. The most famous dances in Indonesia include the Legong, Kecak and the Barong. Gamelan orchesyras usually provide the music for Indonesian dance performances. The gamelan consists of men only.
What has been happening in the classes? Foundation year: The children are continuing to learn to count to Sepuluh, are trying really hard to remember the words to the following songs; “Satu, Dua, Tiga bunga” and “Selamat pagi Bu” and are familiarising themselves with the colors; Biru, Merah, Jingga, Hijau dan Kuning. Well done to HAMISH MANNIX who received a badge for solving a rather difficult equation in I ndonesian and RILEY LYNCH who is doing really well at recognising Indonesian numbers to SEPULUH.
Grade 1, 2, 3 and 4 are having a NOMOR competition during the term. The person to beat at the moment is Zac Bos from 3/4W The students are also learning about a new topic entitled “BADAN” which means Parts of the Body.
From the Artroom
Oh my goodness Term 4 is here already. The children have continued to impress me with their beautiful art pieces and this term promises to be just as exciting. The grades 3 and 4 will working on their papier mache cool cats, the 5 and 6s on their wall art guitars for their bedrooms and the 1 and 2s on some cool ice-cream cones. Once again I’d like to thank all the families who generously donate items to the art room. It is very much appreciated. Now if by chance you have some small Christmas decorations you no longer need, they would be put to good use by the grade 6s when they create the traditional Christmas bon bon table decorations. Don’t forget to come into the main building to see the art displays. The grade 1s and 2s sewing hanging is amazing, just as the 3s and 4s owls are enchanting and the grade 6’s plaster hand sculptures are inspiring. Mrs Attwood (alias Mrs Artwood)
