Safer Routes to School
School Travel Plan
LONGSTONE PRIMARY SCHOOL, EDINBURGH.
February 2018
IntroductionLongstone Primary has 267 pupils within in the main school and 64 pupils within the nursery, with a catchment covering the area below:
In December 2016 parents were invited to complete a travel survey. 23 did so and raised the following issues. Full results are in the appendix.The Redhall Residents Association also raised concerns about parent parking and school buses on Redhall Grove.

Kingsknowe Road North/ Redhall Grove - fast traffic and concern about there not being a dedicated crossing point.
Ask for speed surveys to see if the introduction of 20mph has made a difference.Ask for a crossing patrol re-assessment if necessary. Request vehicle activated speed sign.
Dog poo corner Redhall Rd/Kingsknowe Rd North, near school gate and on route through Longstone Park
Report incidents on https://my.edinburgh.gov.uk/app/report_it_forms/dog_fouling Request visits from Environmental Wardens including information stickers warning offenders face a fixed penalty of £80 rising to £100 if not paid promptly.
Parents smoking at school gate Whilst this is not illegal, the school could include information on risks to health for others breathing in the smoke. If there is a littering issue, then this should be raised with the Environmental Wardens

Active travel modes have been maintained between 58% and 78% throughout Driving has decreased overall with increases in Park and Stride. Numbers walking have increased overall. Unsafe parking at drop off and pick up remains an issue. A survey in December 2017 showed a number of cars parking on
double yellow lines, on corners and across driveways.

STP Aims: To promote regular physical activity to improve health and wellbeing. To promote safer, accessible travel to and from school and reduce congestion. To promote sustainable travel and to reduce the contribution of travel to school’s carbon footprint.
