Organisational updateFinance update:

With just four weeks of the financial year left to go, we want to thank Team DBTH for your hard work throughout the past 12 months, especially over the winter, and ask you all to continue to concentrate on achieving our financial goals, making best use of resources and working as efficiently as possible.

Through our combined efforts we are on target to achieve our control total of a deficit of £16.4 million. It’s vital that we continue to think about every penny that we spend as an organisation. Hitting our control total for this financial year will mean we will start in a better position as we head into

2018/19, which will in itself bring its own challenges. Read the full update here.

CQC Inspection feedback:

We completed our announced ‘Well Led’ CQC inspection in early January, which was the follow-on from the unannounced inspection which took place between 12 to 14 December 2017.

On behalf of the Board of Directors we want to extend a ‘thank you’ to all who were involved and for the time taken to help the inspectors, as well as to everyone for the effort that went into the preparation and collection of the information provided prior to these inspections by the CQC. The direction of the revised strategy and development of the governance structures were recognised, with acknowledgement of continued work in progress across the Trust.

The CQC feedback for ‘Well Led’ was also positive in respect of the improvements we have made in developing and providing our services. The inspection team have also wanted to share their thanks and comments that staff were open and willing to help throughout the process.

We expect to have a ‘factual accuracy’ review of the draft report content in mid-March 2018, with final report publication and ratings a few weeks after that.

First-time Professor of Surgery at the Trust:

I am happy to announce that the Trust has its first ever substantive Professor of Surgery. I do hope you will join me in congratulating Professor Lynda Wyld on this achievement.

Consultant Connect:

Patients are being saved an unnecessary trip to hospital thanks to the great work of our consultants as they discuss patient cases directly with local GPs. In Doncaster 328 calls from GP surgeries were received and 85 in Bassetlaw. Overall, 41% of these calls resulted in an avoided referral, a fantastic service for patients.

Preparing for Digital DBTH:

You may be aware that the Trust is planning to move to an entirely paperless patient record within the next few years. In order to ensure that this transition is as smooth as possible, our IT team want to understand what training requirements are needed by medical staff in order to achieve this ambition. Let us know here. Lunchtime meetings:

These are small meetings (of no more than six of us at one time) to provide the opportunity for you to raise suggestions, challenges and concerns.
