Specific  Objec>ves  

Building  Bi-­‐regional  Partnerships  for  Global  Challenges  

To  encourage  new  and  diverse  mul>-­‐stakeholder  partnerships  that,  through  research  and  innovaQon,  tackle  global  challenges  in  health,  food  security,  and  climate  change  that  affect  Africa  and  Europe.  

To  enable  beYer  understanding  between  the  public  and  private  sector  in  Africa  and  Europe  of  the  link  between  research  and  

innovaQon,  and  to  idenQfy  and  share  opportuniQes  for  cooperaQon  through  networking  and  communicaQon.  

To  facilitate  exchanges  that  result  in  learning  and  that  support  formal  policy  dialogues,  in  parQcular  Partnership  8  of  the  Joint  Africa-­‐EU  strategy,  for  more  effecQve  research  and  innovaQon  cooperaQon.

ETATMBA  -­‐  Enhancing  human  resources  and  use  of  appropriate  technologies  for  maternal  and  perinatal  survival  in  Sub-­‐Saharan  Africa

REACHOUT  -­‐  Reaching  out  and  linking  in:  Heath  systems  and  close-­‐to-­‐community  services  

Aim:  To  work  with  well-­‐respected  and  widely  quoted  close-­‐to-­‐community  (CTC)  services  to  idenQfy  how  these  can  best  be  delivered  and  document  generic  lessons  for  system  development  and  strengthening,  in  order  to  maximize  the  equity,  effecQveness  and  efficiency  of  CTC  services  in  rural  

and  urban  slum  areas  of  the  six  parQcipaQng  countries.
