DescriptionThe Twin Safety Lock Extender is designed to widen the spread of a Ferno Scoop EXL when transporting bariatric patients. The extender is comprised of two identical units and is designed for use with one extender at each end of the stretcher.

Install the TSL ExtenderYou will need to use both hands for this installation.
1. Separate the two halves of the stretcher by pressing on the lock levers (Figure 1).
2. Join the TSL-Extender to each half of the stretcher (Figure 2).
3. Repeat steps 1-2 with the other end of the stretcher.
Removing the TSL ExtenderYou will need to use both hands for this removal.
1. Press with your thumbs on the silver lock levers on the extender and stretcher (Figure 3).
2. Pull the two pieces apart to remove the extender from the stretcher.
3. Repeat steps 1-2 at the other end of the stretcher.

Installing the Restraint Extenders1. Unbuckle the restraint attached to the stretcher.
2. Connect the restraint extender tang to the stretcher restraint buckle, and the extender buckle to the stretcher restraint tang.
3. Pull on the strap to determine that the connection is secure.
4. Repeat this procedure for each of the three straps.
Removing the Restraint Extenders1. Press the release button to unbuckle restraints.
Using the EXL Scoop with a Bariatric Patient
GUIDELINES FOR USE●○ Only use the extenders with a bariatric patient.
●○ Use only one extender at each end of the stretcher. Do not put two extenders together.
●○ Use the stretcher as described in the user’s manual. For additional stretcher manuals, contact Ferno. See “Ferno Customer Relations” on page 4.
●○ Remove and store the extenders when not in use. Do not leave extenders attached to the stretcher.
●○ Follow your local procedures and policies to determine when to use the TSL Extender.
1. Attach TSL-EXT to the stretcher ends (Figure 5).
2. Attach restraint extenders to the stretcher restraints (Figure 5).
3. Follow your local protocols to move the patient.
4. Secure safety locks and buckle all restraints.
5. Remove TSL-EXT extenders and restraint extenders after use.

Disinfecting the TSL ExtenderWipe all surfaces with disinfectant. Follow the disinfectant manufacturer’s instructions for application method and contact time. Ferno recommends you inspect the Extender for damage as you disinfect it.
DisinfectingApply disinfectant to all restraint surfaces, following the disinfectant manufacturer’s instructions for application method and contact time. Wipe with a clean cloth. Do not immerse metal buckles in liquid.
Cleaning1. Remove the restraint from the equipment.
2. Metal Buckle: Spray the metal buckle with disinfectant, following the disinfectant manufacturer’s instructions for application method and contact time. Wipe with a clean cloth. Do not immerse in liquid.
3. Webbing:
○○ Add a disinfectant cleaner to warm water, following the disinfectant manufacturer’s instructions.
○○ Immerse webbing in the solution for the time directed by the disinfectant manufacturer. Do not immerse the metal buckle.
○○ Repeatedly dip the webbing in clear water to rinse. Do not immerse the metal buckle.
4. Hang the restraint to air-dry.
5. Attach only dry restraints to the equipment.
