Scotland - Univ. of Stirling Program Overview Located on 310 acres of lush countryside, Srling University has earned a reputaon in the U.K. for being among its top ten “Student Experience” universies. Founded in 1967, the university offers 300 high quality degree combinaons and top- notched facilies. Located less than ten minutes from the city center, the university comprises nearly twenty percent of the city’s populaon. Academics Students accepted into the UNC Wilmington exchange/study abroad program at Srling will receive credit toward their degree requirements for most majors. This program is available as: • Exchange – This means you pay your

regular tuition and fees to UNCW, and your room and board costs abroad.

• Study Abroad – This means you pay your tuition, fees, room and board abroad.

With each option, there will be additional costs for international airfare, passport, health insurance, and local transportation. Please meet with an advisor at the Office of International Programs to discuss which option is best for you.

Program CostFederal and state financial aid may be applied toward this program. Even if you are normally ineligible for financial aid, you should submit a financial aid application (FAFSA). You may find that you are eligible for additional funding.

UNCW students may also apply for a UNCW Education Abroad Grant and additional study abroad scholarships. Grant applications and additional information are available at: www.uncw.edu/international/abroad/aid.html

Financial Aid & Scholarships

Located in the central highlands of Scotland, Stirling is close in proximity to Scotland’s most metropolitan cities: Glasgow (25 miles) and Edinburgh (35 miles). London is easily reached by train, as are Liverpool, Stratford upon Avon and Southampton. For the avid traveler, Ireland and the European continent are as convenient as the nearest ferry or airport.

Surrounding Area

UNCW students may live in a variety of on-campus, university-managed facilities ranging from residence halls to flats to bungalows. In addition, off-campus housing arrangements may be obtained through the Accommodation Office.

Housing

With a reputation as one of the U.K.’s friendliest universities, Stirling promotes an active student association, which provides students with a number of societies and clubs to join, as well as range of bars, lounges and other entertainment venues to enjoy.

Rich in local history, Stirling also offers students the opportunity to explore a great number of historical landmarks, such as the William Wallace Monument, Stirling Castle and the site of the Battle of Bannockburn — the birthplace of Scottish independence. Nature lovers can enjoy invigorating study breaks by hiking, biking and camping out in the nearby mountains or canoeing in nearby lochs.
