You have to go way back to Dec. 12, 2002, for the last time the Hurricanes celebrated a victory at the Saddledome. Ron Francis, now the GM in Carolina, scored twice that night. The Flames won both meetings last season.
STiLL WinLeSSFresh off Tuesday’s 3-1 loss to the Winnipeg Jets, the ’Canes
arrived here as the only NHL team still seeking their first win this year. So what’s the problem? They have been ransacked by injuries. They’ve been out-shot by opponents in all five games, and their goals-against average of 3.20 is woeful.
HuRTin’ OFFenCeTo truly understand the impact of injuries on the ’Canes in
the early stages of this season, take a glimpse at their scoring stats from last winter. What you’ll find is that five of their seven leading point-producers in 2013-14 — C Eric Staal, LW Jeff Skinner, D Andrej Sekera, C Jordan Staal and LW Nathan Gerbe — have already missed time. Yikes!
HiTMen HOMeCOMinGHurricanes rookie Victor Rask knows his way around the
Saddledome. The Swedish centre starred for two seasons with the WHL’s Calgary Hitmen, averaging just over a point-per-game in the Dub. He’s currently working on the ’Canes second line. “He scored a lot of goals in this building,” said Hurricanes head coach Bill Peters. “We need him to get one (Thursday).”
