Mission Statement St. Margaret is a diverse Christian com-munity centered on the Eucharist which makes present in our midst the mystery of our redemption in Christ. Here, we grow in faith and love for God and one another. Our lives proclaim the words of St. Paul: “You are strangers and aliens no longer. You are fellow citizens with the saints and members of the household of God”. (Eph 2:19) You are welcome to journey with us. Together with our Blessed Mother, we give ourselves to do God’s will on earth as it is in Heaven.

Solemnity of All SaintsNovember 1st
The Solemnity of All Saints is celebrated on the first of November. It was instituted to honour all of the saints, both known and unknown, and, accord-ing to Pope Urban IV, to supply any deficiencies in the faithful’s celebration of saints’ feasts during the year.
In the early days of the Church, the Chris-tians were accustomed to solemnize the anniver-sary of a martyr’s death for Christ at the place of martyrdom. In the fourth century, neighbouring dioceses began to interchange feasts, to transfer rel-ics, to divide them, and to join in a common feast; as is shown by the invitation of Saint Basil of Cae-sarea (397) to the bishops of the province of Pontus. Frequently groups of martyrs suffered on the same day, which naturally led to a joint commemoration.
In the persecution of Diocletian, the number of martyrs became so great that a separate day could not be assigned to each, but the Church, feeling that every martyr should be venerated, appointed a common day for all. The first trace of this we find is in Antioch on the Sunday after Pentecost. We also find mention of a com-mon day in a sermon of Saint Ephrem the Syrian (373), and in the 74th homily of Saint John Chrysostom (407).
At first only martyrs and Saint John the Bap-tist were honoured by a special day in the Li-turgical Calendar. Other saints were added
gradually, and increased in number when a reg-ular process of canonization was established.
Still, as early as 411 there is in the Chaldean Calendar a “Commemoratio Confessorum” for the Friday after Easter. In the west, Pope Boniface IV on May 13, 609 or 610, consecrated the Pantheon in Rome to the Blessed Virgin and all the martyrs, or-dering an anniversary. Gregory III (731-741) con-secrated a chapel in the Basilica of Saint Peter to all the saints and fixed the anniversary for November 1.
A basilica of the Apostles already existed in Rome, and its dedication was annually remembered on May 1. Gregory IV (827-844) extended the cel-ebration on November 1 to the entire Church. The vigil seems to have been held as early as the feast itself. The octave was added by Sixtus IV (1471-84).

Dear brothers and sisters: In our continuing catechesis on the Ten Commandments, we now turn to the sixth com-mandment: “You shall not commit adultery”. The com-mandment, while inculcating marital fidelity, also speaks to the need for fidelity in every aspect of our affective lives. Fidelity is the sign of a free, mature and responsible re-lationship which rejects selfishness and is marked by the generous gift of self. Every heart longs for love, and all authentic love is a reflection of God’s eternal love. Our
vocation to love demands that we grow in the self-knowledge born of mastering our impulses and relating to others with honesty and integrity. This is particularly true of the voca-tion to conjugal love, as a special participation in Christ’s undying love for the Church. The promise of fidelity which spouses make to one another on the day of their marriage is the expression of their commitment to purify their hearts daily of all infidelity and untruth, and to grow in faithful and constant union with one another and with the Lord.

Solemnidad de todos los santos1º de noviembre
El 1º de noviembre la Iglesia Católi-ca se llena de alegría al celebrar la Solemni-dad de Todos los Santos, tanto aquellos cono-cidos como los desconocidos, que con su vida son ejemplo de que sí es posible llegar al cielo.
“Hoy nosotros estamos inmersos con el espíritu entre esta muchedumbre innumerable de santos, de salvados, los cuales, a partir del justo Abel, hasta el que quizá está muriendo en este momento en alguna parte del mundo, nos rodean, nos animan, y cantan todos juntos un poderoso himno de gloria”, decía San Juan Pablo II un primero de noviembre de 1980.
Esta celebración tuvo sus orígenes por el si-glo IV debido a la gran cantidad de mártires en la Iglesia. Más adelante el 13 de mayo del 610 el Papa Bonifacio IV dedica el Panteón roma-no al culto cristiano, colocando de titulares a la Bienaventurada Madre de Dios y a todos los mártires. Es así que se les empieza a festejar en esta fecha.
Posteriormente el Papa Gregorio IV, en el siglo VII, trasladó la fiesta al 1 de noviembre, muy prob-ablemente para contrarrestar la celebración pagana del “Samhain” o año nuevo celta (en la actualidad Halloween) que se celebra la noche del 31 de octubre.
En el 2013 el Papa Francisco, ante una gran multitud de gente, exhortó: “Dios te dice: no ten-gas miedo de la santidad, no tengas miedo de apun-tar alto, de dejarte amar y purificar por Dios, no tengas miedo de dejarte guiar por el Espíritu Santo. Dejémonos contagiar por la santidad de Dios”.
A los santos se les veneran porque son:
Modelo: Porque viendo lo que ellos hicieron para ser agradables a Dios nosotros los podemos imitar.
Estímulo: Porque ellos, lucharon como ahora nosotros y ya gozan de la herencia a la que también nosotros estamos llamados.
Intercesores: Son amigos y hermanos nuestros y grandes bienhechores a quienes podemos recurrir suplicándoles que hagan valer su influencia ante Dios en ayuda de nuestras necesidades.

¿Qué crees que quiso decir Jesús cuando dijo en el Evan-gelio: “No estás lejos del Reino de Dios”. ¿Qué más debía hacer este escriba para estar más cerca de este Reino?
Cuando en el Evangelio leemos: “Y nadie se atrevió a hacerle más preguntas”, ¿fue porque la gente temía a saber la verdad y darse cuenta que estaban equivocados en su modo de pensar, o eran cautelosos en no ser ridiculizados por otra gente? ¿Qué dirías y por qué?

Queridos hermanos:
Hoy dedicamos la catequesis al sexto mandamiento, que dice: “No cometerás adulterio”. Esta palabra del Decálogo supone una llamada a la fidelidad, pues no hay auténtica relación humana sin lealtad y fidelidad. No se puede amar solo cuando “conviene”. El amor se manifiesta cuando se da todo sin reservas. El ser humano necesita ser amado sin condiciones, y cuando no encuentra este amor el corazón busca llenar ese vacío con sucedáneos, componendas y mediocridades, entregándose a relaciones estériles e
inmaduras, con la falsa ilusión de encontrar allí un poco de luz y de vida. Así, se sobrevalora la atracción física, que en sí misma es un don de Dios, pero que está orientada para preparar el camino a una relación personal auténtica y fiel.
La vida conyugal requiere un tiempo de noviazgo para discernir y verificar la cualidad de la relación. Los novi-os, para acceder al sacramento del matrimonio, tienen que madurar la certeza de que no basta solo con la bue-na voluntad, sino que se han de apoyar en el amor fiel de Dios. Este mandamiento nos llama pues a dirigir nues-tra mirada a Cristo, para que sepamos encontrar en Él la fuente de nuestra fidelidad, de nuestra constancia en las relaciones con los demás y de nuestra comunión mutua.
