JUNE 2015 On Sunday, May 31, the search team for the new minister of youth and family life met for the first time to discuss expectations for the next minister, the search process, and sort through resumes already received. Members of the search team are Steve Yeaton (senior minister), Mark Bond (minister of worship and discipleship), Tom Williams (elder), Kip Main (elder), Pam Thomas (member), Melanie Schiller (member), and Chris Lehman (member). The search process will solicit input from our teens at appropriate opportunities. The minister of youth and family life will be responsible for overseeing the development of ministry to/with middle and high school youth including developing relationships with youth as well as raising up adult spiritual mentors who are equipped to invest in the lives of our young people. He will also serve as the point person for the children’s ministry. In addition, he will participate in pastoral care, fill the pulpit as needed, and other ministerial responsibili- ties. He will work with Steve and Mark in continuing to develop a model of ministry in which parents are equipped, empowered, and encouraged to lead their children in the development of their own faith. The search team asks for your prayers on their behalf as they seek to identify the best candidate for our church. The goal is to fill the position by the end of summer. However, if a solid candidate is not identified by then, the process may take longer. Feel free to talk with any of the search team members for updates, questions, and input you’d like to provide. Summer On Mission

School is out and the days of summer are upon us. For some with children in the home, this usually means taking full ad-vantage of the longer days of sunshine and stuffing the next 8 weeks with busy, busy, busy. Camps, sporting activities, vacations, weekend getaways, family reunions, some days on the lake are all things that can quickly consume our calen-dar.

If you haven’t sat down yet to look at what the next 8 weeks look like for you, I would encourage you to do so. Brace yourself and try not to get overwhelmed.

I think it is human nature to try and “seize the day”, to “make the most of the time we have”, and to “squeeze out every ounce of fun”. But what if this summer, when looking at your calendar of busy, you turned into something missional. Af-ter all, as followers of Jesus, we are always on mission. There is no place we can go that removes us from doing what He has called us to do.

But what does that really mean? I believe it is simply a shift of the heart. A heart that says, “Lord, show me how I can use these next 8 weeks for your glory and your Kingdom. While these moments I am about to experience will be full of memories for me and my family, how can You use us in making a difference for the Kingdom?” Many times, we isolate our worship to the Lord as what we do for an hour together on Sunday. The Apostle Paul writes about living out our lives as a sacrifice that is holy and pleasing to God as our worship. I love how Eugene Peterson writes out Romans 12:1-2 in The Message:

“So here’s what I want you to do, God helping you: Take your everyday, ordinary life—your sleeping, eating, going-to-work, and walking-around life—and place it before God as an offering. Embracing what God does for you is the best thing you can do for him. Don’t become so well-adjusted to your culture that you fit into it without even thinking. Instead, fix your attention on God. You’ll be changed from the inside out. Readily recognize what he wants from you, and quickly respond to it. Unlike the culture around you, always dragging you down to its level of immaturity, God brings the best out of you, develops well-formed maturity in you.”

So take a look at those traveling to and from camps, sporting activities, vacations, weekend getaways, family reunions, and some days on the lake and ask yourself – “God, what do You want to do with these days that turn them from ordinary into something extraordinary”. Invite someone into your activity and see how it is a blessing to you both. Keep your eyes open for someone that needs to be shown kindness – and do it. That just might be some of the best worship you get to be part of this summer. Be intentional. Live on mission.

The Jelly Church Over the past few years, BCC has collected jelly for the Summer Food

Program in Batesville. This program provides lunches for school chil-

dren who, during the school year, would be provided lunch at school.

We are now known as “the jelly church” by the program organizers!

Jerry Bennett is coordinating the collection at our church. We are

asking everyone to bring in a jar of jelly on Sunday, June

7th for this collection. There will be collection tubs as both entrances

at the YMCA. Thanks in advance for your generosity and support of

the Summer Food Program.

Marriage Mentor Ministry Launched at BCC

We are proud to announce the start of our Marriage Mentor Ministry here at BCC! The ministry launched back in February during the marriage retreat hosted by BCC. Mentor couples were introduced throughout the weekend and ministry bro-chures were handed out to attendees.

The Marriage Mentor Ministry is designed to help couples maximize their marriage. It is the process of having a sea-soned, more experienced couple come alongside a less experienced couple to help show them the way.

Our marriage mentors received online training through the Marriage Mentoring Academy completing 8 online ses-sions and reading the companion guide, The Complete Guide to Marriage Mentoring. Marriage mentors are not ex-perts and are not perfect! Each couple has life experiences they are ready to share with their mentor couples. They will be your partners in enriching or achieving a healthy, Godly marriage.

Marriage mentoring is for all couples! The mentors were trained and specialize in the mentoring triad: prepare, re-pair and maximize. So, engaged and newlywed couples, couples in distress and relatively happy couples all would benefit from the ministry.

Currently our mentors are Rus and Carolyn Bailiff, Rob and Kelly Bulmer, Clint and Cristy Nuhring and Steve and Cindy Yeaton.

If you would like more information on the marriage mentor ministry please contact the church office. .

Each one should use whatever gift he has re-

ceived to serve others, faithfully administering

God's grace in its various forms"- 1 Peter 4:10.

The Handy Person Ministry needs your help get-ting Ron Elliot's house and yard fixed up and cleaned up on Saturday, June 6th. You DO NOT need to be handy to help with this service pro-ject. We will be meeting at Laura and Dathan's house (523 Hoene Ave. Batesville) at 8:30 that morning for a breakfast and heading to his house afterward. If you'd like to help or want more information, call or e-mail Laura at (812) 363-4414 or [email protected].

Hello new BCC friends,

I want to begin by thanking you for the warm welcome you gave me on Sunday morning! I met so many great new people and I can’t wait to start getting to know you all and to serve you, the Batesville Christian Church, in any way that I can.

I love taking opportunities to talk to peo-ple about what they are passionate about.

If you get a chance, remind me of your name (it’ll take me a while to learn them all) and tell me about your family, your job, your in-volvement at BCC, your DIY projects, your fast cars, or whatever else gets you up early or keeps you up late. If you want, feel free to bring up some of my passions, including guitars, cars, computers, Ping-Pong, or methods of ministry. I’ll also take any marriage tips you’d like to offer as I just married my beautiful wife, Carly, last month.

I’m eager to help Batesville and any BCC members as much as I can so feel free to drop by the office or send me an email ([email protected]) at any time!

Thanks,

Roger Bishop BCC Summer Intern

New Course

Big changes were made to the 9th annual 4 on the 4th Race. First, the course is being revised so that it now runs (literally) through town encompassing all of the downtown churches. Second, by including more churches on the course, we hope to make this a truly community event that will encourage more participation and increase the support raised for the food pantry. We’ll still be the “host” church with start/finish and registration responsibilities, so we hope all our wonderful volunteers will be able to help out once again. We have a reputation for hosting one of the best races around, and it’s our volunteers who make that happen. Please put 4 on the 4th on your calendar and plan on either running or walking in the event or volunteering. Sign-up Sheets will be available near the Welcome Table or contact the church office to find out where you can help.

A New Chapter

Summer is hands down my favorite season and it has been pretty much my whole life. Growing up, I would chill out and catch up with friends and go on adventures. One of the things we learn from the book of Acts is that there were many places

that Paul had visited. He traveled much of the ancient Mediterranean world, checking on churches and even help-ing establish some of them. Some of these places rejected him and the message he brought, while other places (Ephesus in Acts 20) had a very difficult time letting him move on and continuing his proclamation of God’s king-dom in other parts of the world. As you might have heard by this point, I am stepping down from my position as the Youth and Family Life Minister at Batesville Christian Church. That being said, I wanted to share a few thoughts with you in this article. First of all, I always imagine that part of Paul wanted to stay in those places permanently where he remained for a while. He stayed in Ephesus for roughly three years and he stayed in Corinth for about a year and a half. I also imagine that it was a tough choice to move on each time. For me, I can identify with Paul here. By no means was this the easy choice, but it is the one I believe is best for the church and where God is leading me as I finish my studies in Cincinnati. Secondly, we know that Paul’s departure from Ephesus was a very difficult one. The church in Ephesus where he lived for nearly three years was sad to see him move on, and I picture Paul also being sad to leave friendships he developed over that time. In the same way, it is tough to move on and pursue other opportunities elsewhere. I am grateful for the key leaders in my life here at Batesville and I’m also thankful to have witnessed the next genera-tion grow closer to Jesus.

Finally, my prayer for Batesville Christian Church is focused on one idea. My prayer is that BCC keeps “proclaiming the kingdom of God and teaching about the Lord Jesus Christ with all boldness and without hindrance” (Acts 28:31). It’s an honor to have seen this happen in Batesville and I can’t wait to hear how God continues to move in this church.

In Christ,

Dan Dan Geisen Minister of Youth & Family Life
