SALLY ELLIOTT:METAPHORS AND MEMORIES

Sally Elliott, Corazon con Ojos de Pescado

Sally Elliott has been exhibiting locally and nationally for over thirty years. She was a founding member of Front Range Women in the Visual Arts and is a long time member of Spark Cooperative Gallery in Denver where she exhibits yearly. Elliott was a recipient of a 2004 fellowship from the Colorado Council on the Arts and a Boulder Arts Commission Grant (1992). From 1999 to 2011, she was on the Drawing and Painting faculty at the University of Colorado at Boulder. Her work is in numerous private and public collections including IBM Corporate Art Collection, United Airlines, Kenyon College in Ohio, Front Range Community College, and Kaiser Permanente in Denver, Colorado. The work of Sally Elliott is mythic and mystical. Layered so deeply with images, color and textures it demands quiet contemplation to decipher its many insinuations… They are worthy of the time it takes to mine their jewels. ~ William Biety, Space-Editor Art Consultancy, Denver, CO

EPHEMERAL CURRENTS

Loveland artists Abbie R. Powers and Ronda Stone construct an exhibition that celebrates, questions, and explores the myriad ways water reflects and defines us. Linking the historic topic of water use and misuse, so crucial to the development of Colorado, to its tactile nature and aesthetic potential, these artists underscore the intrinsic unifying nature of water as a source for the universal articulation of human intricacy.

Ronda Stone is an award winning artist with over 35 years of experience photographing the human figure. Abbie R. Powers is an installation, performance, and video artist working primarily in silk, the female figure, movement, and video projection.

A History as Art Exhibit

Abbie R. Powers: WellspringSilk captures, holds and then lets go. Silk shares. Silk references and then melts away. Silk is all things and nothing at the same time. Silk allows me to share ocean without the use of water. Silk lets us get lost in the clouds while our feet are firmly on the ground. ~ Abbie R. Powers

Ronda Stone: The Inner LandscapeI photograph people from the inside out – the inner landscape of the human experience. I dig deep to discover and express the dark side of myself in order to understand my own feelings and actions as well as to understand the human condition that continues to be a mystery…Water is our source, our beginning, and in so many ways, our expression and pleasure. ~ Ronda Stone

BLOW UP: Inflatable Contemporary Art

BLOW UP: Inflatable Contemporary Art explores the medium of inflatable art with imagery that is figurative, conceptual, and abstract. These 21 inflatable sculptures connote fun and whimsy while challenging our everyday, grounded perspective.

This exhibition features artists who use air as a sculptural medium, creating inflatable objects typically associated with advertising, children’s entertainment, or holiday decorations. In the true spirit of Pop Art, this format is appropriated by a diverse group of artists who use it to explore complex subjects such as identity, materialism, and war. Playing with scale, color, and the inherent light-heartedness of balloons, the selected artists produce a wide variety of sculptural forms from Lewis deSoto’s sleeping Buddha to Claire Ashley’s colorful abstract shapes. This traveling exhibition includes major works by Claire Ashley (Chicago), Lewis deSoto (Napa, California), Patrick Flibotte (New York), Billie Grace Lynn (Miami), Guy Overfelt (San Francisco), Momoyo Torimitsu (Tokyo), and Christo and Jeanne-Claude.

BLOW UP engages a fascination with inflatables and investigates the imaginative ways that artists use air as a tool for creating movable sculpture. Accessible, yet rich with meaning, these pieces use perception of space to open a dialogue about pop culture and social norms.

ELLIOT ROSS:RECKONING DAYS

Throughout 2016, Elliot Ross photographed the world of the farmer on the high plains of Northeast Colorado. Inspired by the empathetic imagery of Dorothea Lange and Walker Evans for the Farm Security Administration, Ross created an essay that examines the relationship between the farmer and the land, giving both characters equal focus. The grains of wheat and the cracked palms of laborers are given the same attention, depicted in a mesmerizing palette of blues and yellows. “Society is generally removed from the processes in which bread and hundreds of other products reach our baskets,” Elliot said. "We must protect, nurture, and celebrate the salt of the earth.”

Elliot Ross is a New York City based photographer with a BFA from the Savannah College of Art and Design. His work has been widely published, with notable appearances in National Geographic Magazine, The Guardian, and The Atlantic. Elliot’s fine artwork focuses predominantly on human stories that explore the social, cultural, and economic effects of geographic isolation.
