Recently a chance meeting with an old friend opened up with the question “How are you doing in this crummy economy?” She wanted to know if I was as disillusioned as most.

We both agreed we did not see it coming, but when it hit – it hit hard for many families. After all, things had been good for most Americans who had jobs, and a nice way of life, but times have changed. We said our good-byes and promised to get together soon for a lunch date. As I drove back to my offi ce, I thought about our meeting and refl ected on the obvious problems that have consumed many people and families. As I turned into my parking place, I became aware of our beautiful American fl ag, which was waving high above the trees.

I sat there for a moment, and a calm came over me. As I looked more intently at that fl ag, I felt convinced that our plight was not forever, and that the American people will again enjoy prosperity and the American way of life. After work that day, I purchased an American fl ag for my home, which continues to assure me that America is the country that God made for us.

It seems my little fl ag started something in my neighborhood, as soon, other neighbors were fl ying their American fl ag too! Don’t give up on the American way of life! America will persevere! It will be back…my fl ag told me so!

1. Never “pay” money to get money. It is illegal for a legitimate loan company to ask for a “good faith” deposit. If you are asked for process-ing fees, request that the amount be subtracted from the amount you have coming. Request a written copy of their terms and conditions for the loan.2. Never, never give your bank account or credit card information for ID purposes, age verification, to check your credit, or to secure a loan or cash advance. Be aware that anyone asking for this information CAN and WILL debit your account, and usually will take more than they tell you of.3. Do your homework and ask plenty of questions when investigating a job or business opportunity. They should be able to provide you with clear, understandable information about the type of work you will be doing and provide a physical address (not just a post office box), phone number, and active email or website address, and a business license number from their local county or city, where they are required to register as a business. Did they answer all your questions? Were they evasive, confusing, or hesitant? What type of cost will you have to incur?4. Never pay a potential employer for a job. A real employer will not ask for money to work for them, or for postage and supplies. They may ask you to fill out an application, provide a resume, and references, and a sign W-4 form. An employer pays you for work you have completed for them and withhold all required taxes, etc. Do not confuse a “job” offer with a business opportunity.5. Make copies of all paperwork you receive from any company soliciting help in stuffing envelopes or brochures, or any application for a loan. Also make copies of all money orders or checks you send.
