We livein a rented place. The township isa wonderful place in which Iwould love these children to growup in. 8-year-old beaten viciously for R30
MolebohengChahaSHARPEVILLE. - A 24-year-old motherof Tshepiso Phase 3 has admitted to havefailed her 8-year-old son in living with anabusive man for years.
Her son had to be hospitalised with se-rious injuries after he was beaten by his32-year-old stepfather for allegedly ha-ving stolen R30.
This is the second time that a stepfa-ther of Sedibeng has badly beaten a childfor apparently having stolen money. Theboy was admitted to Sebokeng Hospitalfor a week recently.
The young mother says, The incidenthappened on a Sunday. I found my sonin bed sleeping after I came home fromwork, I checked up on him and saw how
badly he had been beaten. When I asked myboyfriend what happened he said he had beatenmy child and called him a thief.
She says she tried to get help for her son andshe told her boyfriend that she was going toseek medical help for the boy, but he assaultedher and locked both of them inside the house. The following day my boyfriend still refusedto let my son go to the doctor. We took a pictureof his injuries and we went to get somethingfor him at the pharmacy. When the assistantat the pharmacy saw the extent of my sons in-juries in the picture, he advised us to take thechild to the doctor. The distraught mother saysat this time, her boyfriend told her to keep quietand not tell anyone what had happened other-wise he would hit both of them again. He for-ced us to say that my son was beaten by a
friends brother at a soccer match and thisis what he also told the doctors at the hospi-tal. She says she regrets staying with anabusive man as her son was almost killed.
Now my son has been taken away fromme because of this. I plan on getting my lifetogether so that my son can come back tome, she said.
The suspect handed himself over at theSharpeville Police Station.
Sebokeng Cluster spokesperson Lieute-nant Teboho Lephoto confirms that the inci-dent did occur and that a case was openedwith the Vereeniging Child Protection Unit.
According to the family, the suspect wasdenied bail and remains in police custody.Lephoto could not confirm this. [email protected]

LeratoSereroSEBOKENG. - The community of Zo-ne 13 is up in arms about what theydeem an understaffed clinic in theirarea. The residents voiced their angerto Sedibeng Ster on Monday saying thatnurses are allowed to leave the clinicwithout replacements being madewhich places a massive workload onthose that remain. They also complainthat since the Boitumelo Clinic hasbeen closed there have been lengthyqueues causing many seriously ill pa-tients to go without assistance for dayson end. We are sick and tired of thissituation as some of us wake up ataround 05:00 to come for medicationbut we receive no service. Somethingneeds to be done, said a patient whois on antiretroviral (ARV) medication.Speaking to Sedibeng Ster about the si-tuation, Emfuleni Local MunicipalityMMC of Health and Social Develop-ment, Sello Pitso says that they are ina process of provincialisation whichmeans that all the clinics in the provincewill fall under the Gauteng Departmentof Health. He adds that where there hasbeen staff shortages they have tried totransfer others from other clinics andeven hospitals to fill their positions. Atthe moment we do not hire new staffbecause of the provincialisation. We arejust awaiting a memorandum of under-standing from the province and thingswill go back to normal. Our people mustjust be patient. About the residentsgoing to the clinic at 05:00, Pitso saysthat he has, himself, warned the com-munity to refrain from doing so as theclinic only opens at 08:00. Pitso endedby saying that plans are afoot for a new
clinic to be built in Boitumelo as every detailon the process has been concluded. [email protected]

MolebohengChahaEVATON. - Charges of fraud and cor-ruption were lodged by the DemocraticAlliance (DA) on Friday.
The party was represented by its DAGauteng constituency head for Evaton, member of Parliament (MP) KingsolChabalala. Chabalala lodged charges offraud and corruption against the ownerof Siyanqoba Projects who is also thechairperson of the Evaton CommunityPolicing Forum (CPF), Jacob Mhlambi.
This follows allegations that Mhlam-bi fraudulently sold stands to EvatonWest residents, charging them a waterand electricity connection fee of R4000that was apparently never received byEmfuleni Local Municipality (ELM).
In a meeting on Sunday, residentsstated that they would also open fraudcharges against Mhlambi.
They said they would also be involving theHuman Rights Commission: Our rights herehave been violated.
We have had to live in a place with noelectricity, water or any other basic servicesfor years. Chabalala said, The communityof Evaton West Extension 7 approached thenational office of the DA to ask for help re-garding this matter and it was then referredto me. He added that residents were tryingto do things in a legal manner by buyingstands instead of occupying the land illegally:
Sadly the people who were trying to dothe right thing have been taken advantage of.
Ward 26 councillor Nomsa Mooi said shewas only made aware of the matter by resi-dents after they complained to her about basicservices: As a ward councillor, I am obligedto ensure that the residents in my ward havewater and sanitation and I am still in the proc-ess of getting the services to the residents.
Mooi said she could not comment on thematter of the land and whether it was fraudu-lently sold because she was informed that theland currently occupied is privately owned.Mhlambi denies the allegations, saying thathe is a legitimate businessman:
At this stage I cannot comment on any-thing because the DA never tried to engagewith me regarding the allegations made bythe community. I only found out after chargeshad been lodged against me.
Mhlambi did not want to comment furtheron the matter. ELMs mayoral spokespersonPinky Mofokeng says that mayor GrethaHlongwane is aware of the allegations andthe unfortunate situation at Evaton West, Ex-tension 7 of illegal selling of municipal land.Mofokeng further says that the municipalityhas embarked on an investigation to get tothe root of the allegations through the depart-ment of Human Settlement that is expected
to provide the mayor with a detailed re-port that will suggest the appropriateaction and corrective measuresif the al-legations are true.

In August a child died after allegedly beingbeaten by its stepfather, last week a womanlost her life after enduring abuse from herpartner for what it was said to be quite a longtime ending with him stabbing her, and thisweek a child has been taken in by the Child
Protection Services from his mother follo-wing an alleged severe beating that saw himin hospital for a week. An elderly friend ofmine passed by the office this week and whathe said to me struck and stayed in my mind, hence this piece. You see, my friend thinksthat we are an angry nation that does not seemto control itself when confronted by difficul-ties, proved by what we are doing to our own.He tells me that for a long time we have beena ticking bomb waiting to explode. Do notget me wrong, my friend did not know thecontents of the paper this week but he was
commenting on a totally different subjectmatter which I will not engage in at the pre-sent moment. But this was of course relevantenough for me to compare it to the kind ofscenarios that we are confronted with weekin and out - particularly in this newspaper.
My dear friend asks basic but factual ques-tions to support his statement of us being anangry nation. He asks why we are killing eachother like flies. He asks why is it that a fatherwill deprive a daughter of her youth by repea-tedly raping her. He further asks if our youthhas decided to let their lives go by giving
themselves to substance abuse. My answerwas simple, I do not know! What seems clearto me however and as many others will attest,I believe, is that we have decided to becomean unruly nation that has become numb to ru-les and regulations. We no longer fear the ruleof law and have allowed abuse and manyother bad things to rule our society. After thatmeeting with my friend I did an introspectionbut could not really come up with an answerhence my question to you today, what kindof a nation do you think we are?
Lerato...
What kind of nation are we?

Hendrik Schmidt DA MP and Constituen-cy Leader: Emfuleni South writes:
Although it is well-known that the Emfule-ni Local Municipality (ELM) has been in fi-nancial trouble for number of years, the audi-tor-general report indicating the financial po-sition of the municipality as at 30 June 2014describes a very concerning financial situati-on.
Considering the contents thereof as well asthe fact that an auditor-general report for theyear ending June 2015 should also have beenavailable to the municipal manager by the au-
ditor-general, we call on the municipality toindicate what action steps have been taken toresolve its financial crisis. According to theAG report as at 30 June 2014, the municipali-ty suffered material losses to the amount ofR175 million (in the financial year 2012-13:R169 million) for water losses being 34% ofthe water purchased by the municipality andsuffered a further loss of R278 million (in thefinancial year 2012-2013: R1.211 billion) forelectricity distributed by the municipality.
These losses alone amount to a staggeringR453 million!
ELM in serious financial trouble

Touchline
It was all the way down memory lane forTOUCHLINE, who got to talk about Eva-ton football with Oupa Tladinyane, oneof the best players in my time recently. He played for the now-defunct BehemanRover FC while I was playing EvatonOcean Stars FC. Coach Happy also re-members some of the players we playedwith and against. The name that came upthe most was a no-nonsense defender bythe name of Isaack Manaba, otherwiseknown as G-Man. He was my teammate
at Ocean Stars FC and the game that I stillremember was when Tladinyane took theball and said, This game must come to anend because this guy keeps kicking us. Itwas game over! As the day seemed to cometo a standstill we also talked about the greattalent the area had, but that the lack of oppor-tunities kept us down. We could have walkedinto any PSL team starting lineup and ce-mented our positions. Even then, this wasalready the sad reality of our circumstancesin football. We had no opportunities like to-days youngsters and the worst part is thatthey take it for granted. In our days therewere no scouts to see us play and some of
us retired prematurely. This game made ma-ny of us what we are today because it keptus busy and disciplined. We also touched ba-se on the development of players the condi-tions in which we played compared to to-days generation. We were sitting there wat-ching the u/13, u/15, u/17s playing and weanalysed them, asking ourselves where theywould be in two or five years to come. Thiswas during the Pooe Heritage Soccer Tour-nament. Coach Happy also reminded TOU-CHLINE about the article I wrote on dazz-ling Orlando Pirates midfielder Thabo Rak-hale before he turned professional.
It was more than ten years ago when I pro-
filed the boy, saying, He is destined fora great future.
I was blessed that I could identify histalent at a young age while he was stillplaying for Junior Lions FC. There weregood times of football in Evaton and menand women would come in numbers towatch us playing.
We used to go to the grounds early inthe morning on Sunday and return homelate at night. The good thing is that ourparents knew we were safe because foot-ball was associated with safety. This mee-ting with Tladinyane was the best way tocelebrate Heritage Month!
It was game over!

It is not going to be an easyouting for us but we are mentally preparedfor them. We have been in this situationbefore. Im confident we will overcomewhatever they throw at us, said Tsotetsi.
they have since put their weekend defeat be-hind them and that their priority was to finishin a respective position in the league. The Stu-dents will be away from home against Ama-BEE FC in the ABC Motsepe League matchthis coming Saturday. Tsotetsi believes thisa character encounter for the boys, takinginto consideration they will be playing away

ZachariaNaleSEDIBENG. - Emfuleni Local Football Asso-ciation (ELFA) is falling apart.
The Super League play-offs scheduled totake place over the weekend were called offbecause some executive commitee membersdisagreed about the participation of YoungMilano FC.
As things stand, the executive committee isdivided, some feeling very strongly that thereis no way Young Milano FC can participate inthe play-offs because the club is the same teamas Vaal Milano FC which campaigns in the Sa-fa Sedibeng SAB League.
However, Junior Gusha, who is part of theexecutive committee, dismissed the claims thatYoung Milano FC and Vaal Milano FC are thesame team. Gusha said the two teams are notowned by the same person. This is despite thefact that their coach Tebello Benza Kheswasits on both teams bench when they play.
I want to put the record straight that YoungMilano FC is not the same team as Vaal Mila-no, which happened to be my club in the SABLeague but Im not the right person to commenton this because Im also part of the executivecommittee, said Gusha.Meanwhile, SedibengSter Sport has also learned that teams such asPekwa All Stars FC have also lodged an appealafter their protest was dismissed by the Disci-plinary Committee.
The executive resolved outstanding matterssuch as protests and the teams were also ex-pected to receive the final log at the competi-tions meeting held on Wednesday.
This was after the team lodged protestsagainst Juventus FC. The latter was crownedchampions in the troubled Stream A after acontroversial massacre of goals scored in thelast game of the season.
Stars FC and Juventus FC shocked local soc-cer fans when they scored 26 and 37 goals re-spectively in their last games of the season.
This sent shock waves throughout the coun-try with Sedibeng Ster and our sister newspaperCity Press carrying the article after one of theteams felt hard-done by about the outcome ofthe games. However, even though the matterhas been put to rest, Sedibeng Ster Sport iswell-informed that some of the teams ownerswant to take the matter to Safa national office.
