The reason the body could only be remo- ved after seven hours was apparently that the provincial forensic team got lost, which was why two pathologists came and left the scene without the deceased. “We have been com- plaining continuously about this dump site. This field was previously fenced all the way around because some kind of project was en- visaged, but then nothing happened and now there is not even a fence,” reported a bystan- der. A meeting was held shortly after the dis- covery of the murdered and raped child. The meeting was to assist police in finding the culprit and to bring the community in so that they can play a part in finding the suspect. Investigations continue. Police confirm that a case of murder and ra- pe has been opened. The corpse had to stay where it was for about seven hours before it could be removed from the crime scene. The mother of the deceased - Shime Selai (37) - was rushed to hospital due to trauma caused by shock and sorrow. Police spokesperson Sergeant Tshifiwa Mi- tileni said, “A case of murder and rape has been opened and we are doing everything in the po- wer of police to collect every bit of evidence to find a lead.” The victim is a nine-year-old learner from Kitso Primary School reported missing by her parents. She went missing on Sunday and her body was found the next day. Mduduzi Mathebula SEBOKENG. - Communities of Zone 3 and Evaton were deeply traumatised by the dis- covery of a missing child. SEBOKENG. - In a region where xenopho-bia is rife, violent crimes and gruesome mur-ders are a norm.It is crucial that the community at large

work together with police to educate oneanother.Sebokeng SAPS station commander Bri-

gadier Jan Scheepers last week commendedthe youth for marching to the police station, demanding a better working relationshipwith the SAPS.The march was organised by the African

National Congress Youth League (ANCYL)- Bizzah Motaung branch - in conjunctionwith theUnited Presbyterian Church in Sout-hern Africa and the South African Active Ci-vil Society Organisation (SAACSO).The march was part of the 16 Days of Ac-

tivism against Women and Child Abuse, in-cluding xenophobia, alcohol abuse, rape, po-lice corruption and other crimes.“I am glad to see that the community

wants to work with the police in ensuringthat our streets are safer. We will struggle together and we will

eventually win the war against crime,” saidScheepers.ANCYL’s branch chairperson Thabiso

Lebona said that the march was sparked bythe recent attacks against foreign nationals:“It is high time that xenophobia be regardedas a crime.“We cannot let our brothers and sisters li-

ve in fear.“We as a community must act against xe-

nophobia, abuse towards children and acrossall genders, police corruption and drug abu-se.”

SEBOKENG. - Police were forced to inter-vene to save an alleged member of the notori-ous ‘Wrong Turn’ gang from the ‘jaws’ ofangry community members. Angry Boiket-long residents wanted to vent their spleen onthose they believed were terrorising them. They alleged that the suspect was caught

stealing from a shack on Saturday at about22:00. He swore that he was innocent, andlocked himself in a shack surrounded by the

volatile community.He said he knewof

some gang membersterrorising the com-munity of Zone 7 inSebokeng. The young man

was saved by Policepatrolling the area.He dismissed the

accusation that hewas part of the noto-rious gang.He told the police

that he knew wheresome of the suspectslive. Police took himto point out a friend’sshack. After a search, po-

lice could not linkthe friend to any ofthe items found.Community mem-bers say they are liv-ing in fear because ofa gang that doesn’treside in their area.

MEYERTON. - A medical emergency tur-ned into a beautiful experience for nurseTheresa Jacobs, the staff members of theRandvaal Clinic and community memberAnalene Jacobs.

The clinic was recently alerted by mem-bers of the SAPS that a pregnant Michelle

Fangore had gone into labour about a kilo-metre away from the clinic.

Sister Theresa Jacobs and Analene jum-ped into the SAPS van and immediately rus-hed to the scene.

Analene says, “When we arrived at thescene sister Theresa assessed the situationand advised that the patient not be movedas the baby was already coming.

“By this time, other staff members at theclinic brought blankets and sheets. They alsohung sheets around the patient so that shecould have some privacy,” adds Analene.

Theresa says, “This was such an amazingexperience and I thank God that He was withme. We had a safe delivery under the cir-cumstances and after all the check-ups, momand baby were taken to the KopanongHospi-tal.”

The baby was named “Theresa” after thenurse who helped bring her into the world.

VEREENIGING. - Gauteng Premier Da-vid Makhura says a new invasion could bebehind the housing disaster faced by localgovernment - shack farming.Makhura addressed all Gauteng local

government MMCs who attended the Gau-teng Housing Lekgotla to accelerate hou-sing delivery. The event was led by the Gauteng De-

partment of Human Settlements MEC Ja-cobMamabolo. The Lekgotla was recentlyheld at the Bon Hotel Riviera on Vaal.Makhura explained ‘shack farming’ as

encouragement from private landowners forpeople to illegally occupy their land, therefo-re indirectly putting pressure on the govern-ment to purchase that land and subsequentlydevelop it by building houses on it. Makhuraadded that this trend is exclusively and‘proudly’ South African.“Developmentmust be government driven.

People should not determine where develop-ment takes place.” Makhura was referring tothe fast-growing trend inwhich people invadea piece of land and the government then buck-les under pressure to build houses on thatland.

The premier also reprimanded local go-vernment forwasting large amounts ofmoneyon small projects. “This habit of building 50houses here and a 100 houses theremust cometo an end.“We need to invest in mega-housing pro-

jects.” He added that current RDP housingwas not up to standard.Mamabolo says, “Over the next two days,

we will be hosting a dialogue with all munici-palities in Gauteng to consolidate our plansinto one massive human settlements pro-gramme for the entire Gauteng City Region.”Mamabolo stated that the gathering is ex-

pected to pronounce on the implementati-on of a newmega city expected to radicallytransform the Human Settlements landsca-pe in Gauteng.“Our housing programmes must help

eliminate such problems and the Lekgotlawill find a holistic approach to the housingchallenges of Gauteng. The approach must include eradication

and formalisation of informal settlements, mixed housing developments, rental hou-sing, community residential units (former-ly hostels), gapmarkets and so on,”Mama-bolo concluded.

The realisation that themerger of local mu-nicipalities in the area into a metropolitanis upon us seems to be a pain in the neckfor some members of the Democratic Alli-ance (DA) in Midvaal who want to stopthe process at all cost. It seems that it isnot enough for them that the partyDA itselfwent to court on the saga. At least threemembers of the DA who are also in the

mayoral committee form a group that callsitself People Against The Metro ActionGroup (PAM Action Group) and ‘claim’ tobe representing the people ofMidvaal at largewith the aim of bringing the merger processto a halt. Having reported on thematter exten-sively since the beginning I have never heardpeople from Sicelo, Lakeside or nearby plotscomplain about the merger or at least take tothe streets through their own initiative wit-hout undue influence. I then askmyself:What

is the motive behind the formation of PAMAction Group and who do they really repre-sent? Do they represent the whole populationof Midvaal or a certain elite group that deniesthe existence of poor communities in the areaand the unfair eviction of plot owners withclaims that they do not pay their rates andtaxes? Through engagements with knowled-geable people on the matter of the merger ofmunicipalities, one thing has always been cle-ar and that is that Sedibeng as awhole is going

to benefit as there is going to be eliminationof duplication of duties and positions in thearea and there is going to be much neededinvestment for the creation of employmentwith one centre of power. Whoever thatwill be. You should then ask yourself whythe group is against the merger. Are theyrepresenting the Midvaal population at lar-ge or only a chosen few?Talk to me.Lerato...

SEDIBENG.- Be knowledgeable, livein South Africa, but exist in the world! This is the eview of talented former ra-dio presenter and now young entrepre-neur Motseki Mabuya who recently re-turned from a summit in Ireland organi-sed by One Young World GlobalOrganisation.

Together with his partners, Mabuya

runs YB20 and Buitumelo Media which fo-cusses on content development for commu-nity radio stations.

At the summit where youth from differentcountries around the world such as Iraq,South Korea, Iran and Pakistan gathered is-sues such as climate change, economy, sports, disability and trade were discussed.

12 November - 18 November 2014 SEDIBENG STER 11

Whatever we do should not affect or sacrificethe standard of football, especially in the fieldof play in this region ... This message is direc-ted at all the coaches and officials in this regionwho followed the recent march at Safa House. This should also not divide football people, specifically development coaches in this regi-on.Shooting From The Hip advises develop-

ment coaches in this region to leave politics tothe football administrators. As coaches yourduty is to develop talent. I’m afraid develop-ment coaches are losing focus and the standardof football in the field can attest to this.Shooting From The Hip thinks development

coaches were not supposed to go to Safa Housebecause this is the administration department. They could have appointed delegates ratherthan all of them going to Safa House.

As coaches our duty is towear tracksuits andto go to the field to train our boys, not to getinvolved in administration issues. ShootingFrom The Hip supports the initiative but it waswrong for our coaches to take part in this.

For example, my friend, who is also a deve-lopment coach in this region - Mondli Nkosi- showed me a fake e-mail opened under mynameby the so-called “MrCool” last year. This

is part of the e-mail thatwas intended to destroymy journalism, football career and family.

But the only thing I was not sure about waswhy Mr Nkosi showed me this e-mail becauseI found myself thinking back to what happenedahead of last year’s Safa national election.

I’m afraid that history is about to repeat itselfand innocent people will be hurt in the process.Shooting From TheHip’smessage to Mr Nkosiis that the very same e-mail has destroyed thelives and careers of innocent people in this regi-on. However, God has already dealt with thosewho were behind this..!

AsShootingFromTheHip said before, thesecamps and ‘cores’ are destroying our football. As things stand now local football administra-tors and development coaches are dividedwhich is not good for the beautiful game.

I don’t care whether it’s Xolani Mtumtum,Star Hlongwane or the Junior Gusha camp, theonly thing Shooting From The Hip asks is thatone thinks about youngsters and their soccercareers.

Many souls have been hurt in the past becau-se of some of the Safa Sedibeng and EmfuleniLocal Football Association Executive Com-mittee Members. Maybe the development te-ams should ask themselves why some localacademies or development teams are playingUNIQUE football. It is because those develop-ment coaches direct their energy in the rightdirection. In conclusion, “Choose your battleswisely.” After all, life is not measured accor-ding to how many times you stood up to fight. It is not winning battles that makes you turnaway and choose to look in a better direction.Life is too short to spend on war. Fight onlythe most, most, most important battles. Let therest go.

Choose yourbattles wisely

SASOLBURG. - The Vaal Campus of theNorth West University (NWU Vaal) in con-junction with Sasol recently ‘slam-dunked’the Basketball Development Tournamenthosted in Zamdela. The state-of-the-art HarryGwala Sport Complex in Zamdela was theperfect indoor setting for bringing basketballto the people. Teams from as far afield as Pre-toria participated in the event, but the tourna-ment was dominated by the Vaal Universityof Technology’s (VUT) ladies and men’s te-ams. In the men’s final, the Randburg Rhinosmade life difficult for the VUT Wildcats, butthe class outfit from the Vaal absorbed thepressure to win the final 55 - 37 in the end.The Wildcats’ road to the final was not aneasy one. In the semi-final the team had tosweat blood to defeat the Tswane Universityof Technology (TUT) by 40 - 36. The Rhinoswere rampant in their semi-final trampling ofthe Boston Giants by 79 - 62 to advance tothe final. The ladies final was a closely conte-sted affair between the Steelers and VUT.VUT eventually upped the ante to walk offwith the spoils defeating the Steelers 49 - 37.The u/19 men’s final was a ‘humdinger’ withthe Steelers snatching victory from the jawsof defeat by beating the Alex Cavs 43 - 42.The tournament can without a doubt be dub-bed a huge development success. One thingis for certain - basketball in the Vaal Triangleis flourishing and tournaments like these arecrucial to promote and develop basketball asa whole, but especially in rural communities.

VANDERBIJLPARK. - Vereeniging OldBoys FC from Roshnee started their SafaSedibeng SAB Regional League Cam-paign with an impressive 1 - 1 drawagainst Real Barcelona over the weekend.

This Roshnee-based side earned pro-motion to the Safa Sedibeng SAB Leaguetogether withVantage FC fromSebokengafter finishing second during the recentRegional Promotion Play-Offs held atNWU Vaal Campus and Isak Steyl Stadi-um.

On the weekend Old Boys FC was thefirst to score and forced the home side tochase the game for the better part of thematch. However, their hard work was re-

warded when they finally scored an equa-liser to force the game to end in a 1-alldraw.

The newcomers’ head coach ShadyCassimwas impressedwith his side despi-te the fact it was their debut in the league.

He believes that playing away from ho-mebut returningwith a pointwas an incre-dible result taking into consideration thathis teamwas up against experienced cam-paigners. “I’m happy with the result andmy boys played very well. I’m proud ofthem because they never felt intimidatedby the experience of their opponents. Thisis a morale-booster going into the next ga-me,” he concluded.
