VANDERBIJLPARK. - Former dismissedEmfuleni Traffic officers Zakes Potsane andMadibedi Cindi are back on the road again. The two were suspended, then dismissed

following an allegation that they had collect-ed a cash bribe from a motorist. The incident involved the two officers

who allegedly followed the motorist to with-draw cash at an ATM in Three Rivers in Sep-tember 2011.After the ordeal, the victim blew the whis-

tle at the traffic office in Vereeniging. Thetwo were suspended by Emfuleni PublicSafety MMC Velly Mcera after they had ap-peared in an identification parade. They were suspended before dismissal.

Sedibeng Ster came across Cindi hard atwork in the Vanderbijlpark CBD on DF Ma-lan Street on Saturday.Apparently the three-year delayed case

had been overturned at the Bargaining Coun-cil.Stanley Gaba, Emfuleni head of commu-

nication, confirmed their return. He told Sed-ibeng Ster that a disciplinary hearing was in-stituted. Both officials were found guilty, suspended and subsequently dismissed. But the two did not let the matter lie. They took it to the bargaining council.

They were reinstated after a collectiveagreement with the employer. “Look, wedon’t have a personal vendetta against anyworkers.“A final decision has been reached. We

are obliged to live by the bargaining coun-cil’s decision,” said Gaba.Cindi agreed that it had been a long case.

“I am happy that everything is over and weare back on the road again.” When he wasasked whether he thinks it was a set-up, heresponded by saying, “I think it would bebetter to bury the past and not entertain it.”Potsane was not available for comment.

SEDIBENG. - Some members of the Afri-can National Congress (ANC) in Sedibengwere implicated in serious allegations whichsurfaced last week of a plot to kill SedibengDistrict Municipality Mayor Simon Mof-okeng. A report in a national newspaper lastweek stated that the three men came forwardto share the details of the alleged plot. Thetrio apparently lay bare how Mofokeng wasfollowed and a hit-man was hired and paidR5 000 to make the mayor ‘disappear’. Thepaper reported that two of the men confessedto having secret meetings with a group ofANC members who want Mofokeng oustedfrom his position. Mofokeng has been in the

hot seat for over ten years, leading both theANC Sedibeng Regional Executive Com-mittee and the Sedibeng District Municipali-ty. The pair apparently told the paper thatmeetings started in September and took placein different places, mainly the homes and atthe offices of the ANC members who askedfor their help to bring down themayor. Askedto name ANCmembers in the group, the pairapparently mentioned individuals serving asmembers of the mayoral committee at theEmfuleni Local Municipality, one of threemunicipalities that make up the SedibengDistrict Municipality. One of the men wasapparently paid R4 900 and a laptop was gi-ven to him to track the movements of themayor. It is also said that the men revealed

that a recent front page report by the samenational newspaper showing an apparentlydrunk Mofokeng in a bar was the work ofthe group. One of the men also apparentlyrevealed that the group is currently lookingat ways of giving that video clip to one jour-nalist employed by the SABC and internatio-nal TV stations, so that it forces the ANCto recall Mayor Mofokeng. This comes justweeks ahead of the ANC Sedibeng RegionalExecutive Congress (REC) where a new exe-cutive committee will be elected later thismonth. Sedibeng District Municipality offi-cials referred all queries on the matter toThemba Ndaba, Sedibeng ANC regionalspokesperson, whom Sedibeng Ster couldnot reach at the time of going to print.

ORANGEFARMS. - TheOrange FarmEye-thuMall openingwas disrupted by numerouscommunity members who were unhappywith the allocation of employment last week.

They were also irate about the handlingof other matters.

The huge protest erupted in the early hoursof Tuesday. Protesters barricaded the mainroad to the mall, throwing huge rocks andburning tyres. In one voice they demandedemployment and demanded answers to thequestions listed in their memorandum.

Some residents did not care about the pro-test and forced their way into the mall aftera brief speech by Corporate Shared Services

MMC Mally Mokoena.Police were deployed to the scene and

tried everything to stop people from dis-rupting the opening. Captain JohannesMotsiri says a case of public violence hasbeen opened.

Motsiri confirms that three people werearrested for malicious damage to property.“The suspects were arrested for damaginga victim’s X5 windscreen said to costR60 000,’ says Motsiri. He added that theprotestors were addressed by mall stake-holders and an agreement was reached todisperse. However, protestors handed overtheir memorandum, which they claim theyhave also sent to local government.

The past weeks have made some of us realisethat the more things change the more they staythe same and that we will never be treatedequally. Thedeaths of the young sport stars alsorevealed this is true in every sense. What withothers getting provincial status funerals andothers not. Many people particularly in socialnetworks, raised some horrible and disgustingsuggestions, in particular with regard to thedeath of Senzo Meyiwa, while forgetting thatthe families of the deceased were still in mour-ning. Where is our Ubuntu? Ubuntu speaksparticularly about the fact that you can’t existin isolation and forget that what happens toothers will one day happen to you. You can’tbe human all by yourself, and when you havethis quality - Ubuntu - you are known for yourgenerosity. We think of ourselves far too fre-quently as just individuals, separated from oneanother, whereas you are connected and whatyou do affects the whole world. When you dowell, it spreads out; it is for the whole of huma-nity. I know that you and I are very different,we are different as the sun and the sea. To ef-fectively communicate we must realise that weare different in the way we perceive the worldand use this understanding as a guide to ourcommunication. So, let us not be blind to ourdifferences. But let us also direct attention toour common interests and to the means bywhich those differences can be resolved. Andif we cannot end our differences, at least wecan help make the world safe for diversity. For,in the end, our most basic common link is thatwe all inhabit this small planet. We all breathethe same air and, lastly, we all cherish our chil-dren’s future.

Jane Masite elected president of the IMFOBy Stanley Gaba

“IMFO's heraldic symbols and identity of 85 years

right, and yet we still demand to be paid 100%

salaries for 40%ofwork output.“

VANDERBIJLPARK. - It was ‘goalsgalore’ when the 2014 MCS SedibengTournament took place at the Shake-speare Stadium over the weekend. This is one tournament that gives the

local youngsters an opportunity to playin better conditions and gives them aplatform on which to compete againstthe best. This year’s tournament saw the te-

ams increase from 16 to 20 in both theu/13s and u/15s. According to tourna-ment coordinator Sello Tshabalala theywere forced to increase the numbersparticipating by the demand of the te-ams.As expected it was raining goals with

some teams scoring nine goals whileanother five goals made the tournamentinteresting. Speaking to Sedibeng SterSports, Tshabalala says the tournamentis growing, and this is why they increa-sed the number of the teams.“We did not want to leave any team

behind because they badly wanted tobe part of this tournament and I can’tblame them.“ MCS is one of the biggest junior

soccer tournaments in this region. Itwas such an unbelievable feeling to seethese youngsters enjoying themselvesin the much better conditions,” saysTshabalala.

The u/13 teams that qualified for thelast eight are: Nale Academy, Vaal Mi-lano, Juventus, Benfica, Celta Vigo,Evaton Barcelona, Bophelong Barcelo-na and Dortmond. The four u/15 teams that already qua-

lified for the last eight are: Nale Acade-my, Ikageng Dev FC, Vaal Develop-ment FC and Bophelong Milano.

Meanwhile, the u/17 event will takeplace at the same venue – ShakespeareStadium on Saturday and Sunday.

SEDIBENG. - As Sedibeng Ster Sport repor-ted last week under the headline “Local teamsmarch to Safa National Office”, local coa-ches, officials expressed their view that‘enough is enough’ regarding the state offootball in this region. The 25 teams’ repre-sentatives marched to Safa House Offices tosubmit a memorandum of their concerns toSafa President Danny Jordaan. They urged

him to intervene and demand immediate dis-bandment of the executive committee. Sedi-beng Ster Sport has learned that SafaNationalOffice has already summoned Safa SedibengPresident Xolani Mtumtum together with hisexecutive committee members to answer theallegations stated at the bottom. The three-pa-ge memorandum submitted to Safa NationalOffices reads:•Lack of accountability from both associa-

tions•Only two AGMs have been held in four

years•No incentive for teams•No junior league•No courses (administration, coaching se-

minars and referees)•Maladministration•We believe the suspension of the regional

secretary was unconstitutional and we were

not informed•LFAs are not functional•Regional teams in the SAB League ha-

ven’t received their prizes, so therefore werequest all the games be suspended in bothregional and local associations because wedon’t have confidence in our region.“Therefore we recommend that the regio-

nal executive committee be disbanded withimmediate effect, because we don’t have con-fidence in them and they have failed to dotheir task. Please find attached list of atten-dance-register from association members.“We are looking forward to your response

within seven days.“ Hoping that this matter will speedily re-

ach your highest consideration.” The three-page memorandum was signed by 20 localsoccer teams before it was received by SafaPresident Danny Jordaan’s office.
