For winter 17/18, Gore features significant improvements to three lodges, more snowmaking, improved parking, and updates to the Nordic trail system! Learn about Gore’s environmental advances too.

Three lodge renovations will make your time off the slopes at Gore almost as nice as they are on! Discover an all-new experience at the Saddle Lodge, located at the top of the recently installed Adirondack Express II. The Saddle has more than doubled in square footage and occupancy. Upgrades include an attractively styled vernacular, stunning views of the High Peaks upstairs and down, an expanded and updated kitchen, and new bathrooms. Then at Gore’s summit, you’ll find a complete transformation of the original 1967 gondola unloading station, which is now Straight Brook Lodge, featuring tables and benches, vending machines, and deck. Lastly, a large addition on the Northwoods Lodge delivers a larger rental and repair shop and more space for children’s Mountain Adventure programming.

Gore has been steadily modernizing its snowmaking infrastructure over the last several years. 130+ new guns with the latest technology recently joined Gore’s extensive fleet of high-efficiency snowmaking. More guns, pump house efficiency improvements, and distribution updates will all contribute to snow being made more quickly this season.

Gore’s newly introduced Nordic network at the North Creek Ski Bowl features snowmaking, grooming, lights, cross-country ski and snowshoe rentals, lessons, and foodservice. Trails are open daily and nightly, happily welcoming Nordic teams for training and events, as well as the recreational public. For this winter, new trail work has facilitated more extensive grooming while improving the beginner Nordic experience. Gore Mountain was recently presented with the esteemed Golden Eagle Award for Overall Environmental Excellence by a ski area, the industry’s most coveted award for sustainability. Gore’s 14,589-panel solar array (the largest dedicated to a ski area in the US) is live on the grid, offsetting 85% of the mountain’s electrical needs with renewable energy. Several other environmental initiatives contributing to Gore’s achievement include increased service of locally produced foods, strategic trail modifications that conserve energy, and redeveloping the historic North Creek Ski Bowl with “recycled” trails and earthen freestyle features. This season, look for new parking spaces to charge your electric car while you’re enjoying the slopes.

new chair lift at Song mountainThunderbird T-Bar Replaced By New Triple Chair!Extra, extra, read all about it! The aged Thunderbird T-Bar is being replaced by a new triple chair for the 2017-18 season.

Continuing our multi-million dollar improvement campaign at both Labrador and Song, this chairlift will be the second new chairlift installation at Song Mountain since 2011.

“The Thunderbird T-Bar, originally installed circa 1965, was scheduled for replacement”, said President Peter Harris. He added, “This Riblit triple chair lift is being relocated from northern Minnesota and was just a perfect fit”.

The Riblit Tramway Company built its first lift at Mount Hood, Oregon in 1938. It was once the largest ski chairlift manufacturer in the world building over 400 chairlifts in North America.

While Riblit chairlifts are more commonly found west of the Mississippi, Song has two other Riblit chairlifts in its arsenal. The Double Chair was installed by Riblit in 1971 and the Triple Chair was installed in 1989.

Riblit chairlifts are favored by the skiing and snowboarding public because of their smooth ride. Riblit chair grips are unique in the industry being woven into the haul rope rather then clamped onto it. Riblits are also coveted by ski area operators due to their proven history of reliability, and Riblit’s philosophy of utilizing off-the-shelf parts.

The Eastern portion of Song Mountain is universally recognized as CNY’s best advanced terrain and this new chair is expected to radically alter Song’s downhill traffic patterns. In 2011 the new Gunshy chair was installed for beginners and now this chair is here for the experts.

An added bonus is the elimination of the reliance on Moonglow to get skiers and snowboards from the west part of Song to two of our most favored trails, Jupiter and Otto’s Folly.

At press time, the T-Bar has been removed and the concrete is flowing!

Buffalo Ski Clubs Freestyle program is going on its twenty-second season, and has grown from less than ten athletes to almost forty. BSC Freestyle was proud to accept USSA’s 2017 Freestyle Club of the Year Award, winning the award among a fierce field of nominees that included; Steamboat Springs, Sun Valley, Killington, Stratton, Bristol, and Winter Park. BSC is looking forward to another successful season. The team maintains the newest, and one of the only permanent, dedicated aerial sites on the East Coast. Aerial disciplines are rooted deeply at BSC, which has produced an Olympic Aerialist (Matthew DePeters), as well as many national team members and future Olympic hopefuls. Mogul training continues to develop, thanks to a recently acquired dedicated hill and upgraded snow making capabilities. We are proud of our recent award, but even more proud of the dedicated athletes, volunteers, parents, mountain operations and last but not least, a talented coaching staff. Bring on the snow!

Hunt Hollow Ski ClubNestled in the hills just outside of Naples NY is Hunt Hollow Ski Club. Established in 1966, Hunt Hollow has been an icon of the area with its majestic views, enthusi-astic members and attentive staff which has made Hunt Hollow Ski Club a haven for those who share a love for winter sports.

A lot has changed since the opening of Hunt Hollow Ski Club. In the past year alone, the club has been working hard to create an unforgettable experience with the help of upgrades to the snowmaking system. Upgrades include new compressors and snowmaking guns, as well as a new water main and additional new pipelines installed on two of the most popular runs at the Club, Skycoaster and Main Street. Among those most excited about the improvements is General Manager, Joe Cal-laghan. “We have made a major commitment to upgrading the entire system over the past two seasons”, said Callaghan, “Plus, there will be a lot more happening over the next two to three seasons”. Additional improvements on the slopes can be seen with the regrading of Skycoaster, an upgraded Live Webcam to check out conditions in real-time and the planned addition of an outdoor heating system in the social area.

Some things, however, never change. Hunt Hollow Ski Club’s commitment to the community continues with the creation of the Hunt Hollow Youth Skiing Fund. Entering its third year, the Youth Skiing Fund is focused on supporting individuals in the region with adaptive learning needs and for those who require financial support and teaching them to ski. The Hunt Hollow Snowsports Department, which is sanctioned by the PSIA-ASSI, provides ski and snowboarding lessons to both members and non-members alike. WelCome to tHe 2017/18 FAll AnD Winter SeASon!Kissing Bridge has been part of my winters for as long as I can remember. From walking to the YMCA ski buses that picked me and my sisters up in Nativity’s parking lot on Fridays in the late 70’s, to the infamous “Late Night Great Night’s”. I learned and grew my love of the sport at a young age. It wasn’t until my I reached my 20’s that I realized just what the sport and more importantly Kissing Bridge meant to me. I am sure that many of you have shared similar experiences here at KB.In recent years, after working here for a better part of my adult life, I have taken on the mission to help WNY rediscover KB and all it has to offer. That being said, KB is once again going to rise up to hopefully meet or exceed our customers expectations.In our spring and summer months, KB has been very busy establishing our summer activity’s. These are critical for us, as it gives us the ability to maintain and improve our facilities and our brand. Upon your next visit, I’m sure you will see some of the improvements. I’m sure there are many more that our customers would like too see. Please know we are striving to address them all.We are continuing our plan to increase our snowmaking capabilities, and be able to offer great snow conditions at a reasonable price. KB has always been noted as having “great snow” and exceptional grooming. This will only get better as we push forward.As the nights are becoming cooler, it wont be long before the much anticipated lake effect snows start piling up! KB assures our customers that no opportunity will be missed in offering as much terrain, as fast as we can safely!
