2014–2015 free guided walks exploring the history and environment of Subiaco

See Subi on Sunday offers the community free guided walks through Subiaco that allow participants to enjoy its history, heritage and beauty.

The intention of the walks is to encourage participation and pleasure.

The walks take approximately one and a half hours to complete and are suitable for people of all ages. Walks are conducted in a relaxed, friendly and informative manner.

Community members with past and present connections to the areas visited are invited to provide personal anecdotes that enhance the appreciation of the location explored during each walk.

Participants are encouraged to visit the Subiaco Museum at the conclusion of the walks and enjoy the diverse collections on display.

Thirteenth anniversary walk – Centuries and identitiesSunday 13 July 2014 at 1.30pm

See inside the old section of Subiaco Primary School and discover its 100 year history. Explore the grounds and learn about well known attendees. Enjoy New Norcia bread, cake and ‘billy tea’ on completion of the walk.

Start and finish on the grassed area at the Subiaco Museum, 239 Rokeby Road, Subiaco.

The Grand Dame of SubiacoSunday 14 September 2014 at 1.30pm

Learn about the community connection to and ownership of the

Regal Theatre and its importance in the social setting of Subiaco past and present as Richard Diggins, John Thornton and Regal Theatre board members lead a guided tour and explain refurbishment plans.

Salvado and SubiacoSunday 9 November 2014 at 1.30pm

Celebrate the 200 year anniversary of Dom Salvado, one of the two Benedictine monks who

named Subiaco. Visit the original monastery site and surrounds and learn about Dom Salvado’s contribution to Western Australia.

discover the important role it has played in community life for more than 100 years. Participants need to be fit and active as there will be stairs to access certain areas.

Follow the old tram route as your explore the narrow corridor that links

the north and south sections of Subiaco. Learn about Sir Charles Gairdner as you pass through the hospital precinct, which includes the new Children’s Hospital.
