    As I flip thro u gh the pages of E ll e , Ha rper ’s Ba z a a r , and

Vo g u e , I am bl own aw ay by all the stunning retro fall fash-

ions. Clothing and accessories are more refined, with

rich details and classic styling that provide an over-all polished feeling.

The new styles remind me how fashion alw ays

repeats itself in one form or another. Som etimes the

re sult is qu i rky, if not a bit fri gh ten i n g. But in this case, the re su r gen ce of cl a s-

sic fashions from the 1940s and 1950s is more than wel come. Clothing is fit-

ted and tailored but, thankfully, not skin tight. Women are encouraged to

mix and match fabrics that have stri k i n gly different tex tu res. In our out-

fit, the heavy tweed jacket is sof ten ed by the del i c a te lace camisole pee k-

ing out underneath, and the look is balanced by the fun gra ph i c - pri n t

s k i rt rem i n i s cent of 1950s fabrics. Little pink bows on the trim of the jacket add a pret ty, feminine detail to the outfit, and the bl ack clutch

( perhaps larger than those from dec ades past) and 1940s-derived

    ro u n d - toed pumps add a to u ch of old-sch ool gl a m o u r. Perhaps this

outfit’s most obvious nod to the past is the brooch, the fall season’s

h o t test acce s s ory. Flip open the pages of any fashion magazine and

you are su re to see brooches worn one or several at a time. Th i s

be aded vers i on is s imple to make and can be worn dre s s ed-up or

p a red - down. It is the perfect final em bell i s h m ent to su ch an en s em-

ble, and we a ring it wi ll make any el egant lady stand out f rom the

    crowd.
