Happy birthday to everyone in advance!

Farewell to House Staff: We say our farewells to members of the house staff who have made such an impact in their time here: Mr Hammond, Mr Lapage, Madame Phillips, Mr Turner and Mr Palferman. Special mention to Mr Palferman, our AHM, who has been appointed to be the Housemaster of Cowells! They will be much missed and we wish them the best of luck in their future careers.

Farewell to the Upper Sixth They have led the house with a strong sense of house spirit, and having battled through their final exams, they are now moving on. Special thanks to Sam Shuker as the Head of House and to Valentin Peiker and James Colson Lake as the Deputy Heads of House. The Upper Sixth will be missed and good luck to them all in their future endeavors.

The L6th Prefect’s Training: Mr Roche, Ms Richens and Mr Turner took the Segar’s L6th to Swanage again this year for a weekend of camping, climbing and coasteering. The boys learnt a lot about leadership, taking responsibility and team-building. L6th former Michael Proskuryakov had this to say: “On the trip I felt more alive than I had for a long time, and I saw us come together in a way I have never seen before.”

The New Segar’s Tutors: New members of the common room will be joining Segar’s. We welcome Mr Storey (left) as our AHM, he is a teacher of Biology, a footballer and a golfer, and we welcome Mr Marjot, as our Resident Tutor, he is also a biologist, and a keen rugby player.

In the Orchestra, we have Naoki, Guy, Albert and Matthew, and in the choir, we have Guy, Naoki, Anish, Matthew Lewis, Albert, Masato, Winston, Arya and Tom Reed. Ark had his amazing art on display in the art exhibition. Giacomo, Matthew and Finn were also in the dance show.

The Ultra team taking on an Ultra Marathon Mr Turner and Mr Roche will be running a 100km Ultra Marathon (the whole of The Ridgeway), on the 14th of July to raise money for this year’s school charity: The Felix Project. Scan the QR code to visit their JustGiving page! (You may need a special QR Code scanner app). Check out the house twitter page that day as they are going to tweet a photo every 10k.

Segar’s Sports Successes There were huge wins in the House Sports competitions this term. Segar’s won the Junior Cricket competition and the Junior House Rowing competition on the same day - doing the double! In the Junior Rugby, Segar’s came second, robbed by Tilly’s in the last few minutes who won by one point. Our thanks to Archie Nicholson for his coaching and for his advice. A highlight of the Senior Tennis was Naoki and his pair thrashing Field 4-0.

Edward Woodward Cup The Edward Woodward Cup is awarded to a boy in the house from any year group who best represents the Segar’s Core values. It is named after Edward Woodward who left a few years ago and who epitomized the Segar’s gentlemanly values. This year, it is awarded to the fourth former Ben Neville (pictured far left). Congratulations Ben and keep up the house spirit!

A note from the editor: Hello! My name is Sanders Lau, sitting in the middle of the photo above, and I have taken on the role of the editor of the Segar’s newsletter. You may have read the newsletter from the Michaelmas term, and I hope you have enjoyed the new style and the new format, and I am open to any feedback you may have! It is a privilege to do this and I am very proud to be reporting on what the house gets up to each term. Thank you to Mr Roche, Ms Richens and Mr Palferman for everything this year.

Segar’s Sports Successes - Individuals Segar’s won the house competitions collectively but there are some individuals that should be mentioned. Peter, Luke and Kunal have been playing for 1XI at cricket. Luke opens the bowling and Peter opens the batting. Toby Kershaw and Stanley Brown (Shells) also played 1st XI cricket this season. Peter was a part of the school’s highest ever opening partnership when St Edward’s were 310 runs without loss at Marlborough (the team beat Marlborough by 404 runs and went on to win the John Harvey Cup!). Toby Kershaw managed to score a century in the first week of term in his first block fixture for the school. He has even won the best batsman award in the Yearlings A and Stanley Brown won the all-rounder award. Congratulations Toby and Stanley! We have three U6th boys in the 1st VIII who competed at Henley this year and who were clocked as the 2nd fastest crew in the school’s history. Nicola, Sam and Valentin have been stalwarts of the boat club for years. Well done guys! Isaac, Arya, Jake and Nicholas rowed in the JCA crew this season and Oliver rowed in the YA crew. In Athletics, special mention to Louis Williams, who beat the school record in the 4 x 100m sprint! Louis was also awarded his Athletics colours. Congratulations to Louis.
